Jupiter Jaguars Travel Basketball: Past 2004 Season

2004 11U Travel Team
The 2004 Jupiter Jaguars 11U Boys Travel Basketball Team tryouts will be held this weekend!!!

Monday, December 1
Coach's Note
Dear 2003 Jupiter Jaguars,

The 2003 / 2004 Rec Basketball season is starting this week and coach Dan Schattie and I are also starting to think about the 2004 travel season for the 11U Jupiter Jaguars! Last season’s run at the state championship was a great way to end the year and I’m hoping that we can build on that this year. This year we’ll be again be playing in the Palm Beach County Travel league and selecting tournaments throughout the state, including a national tournament in Tampa.

Many of you may have seen the article that I put in the Jupiter Courier advertising practice sessions for all 5th graders interested in seeing what travel basketball is like by inviting them to participate in practice sessions over the next 2 Sunday afternoons. I want to make sure that all of my players from last year know about these practice sessions, as well.

I will be holding practice sessions on December 7th and 14th from 5:30 pm – 7:00 pm at the Jupiter Middle School gym. If you’re son is interested again in travel basketball this year, I want to encourage you to have him participate in these practice sessions to get the season going and to best prepare themselves for the upcoming tryouts. The official tryouts will be scheduled on one of the first weekends in January, but these sessions are intended to get a jump on the season and give all players the best opportunity to excel in tryouts!

Last season, I was unsuccessful in getting a second team in our age group formed. This year I have reason to think that there will be a second team, allowing more kids to participate. So, if you know of travel type players, please feel free to let them know of the practice sessions, as well.

I hope you’re as interested in getting basketball going as Dan and I are, and I hope that you’ll be able to attend the practice sessions over the next couple of Sundays.

Please call me at 747-9688 if you have any questions or scheduling conflicts.

Jupiter Jam Tips Off
*********************************************************************
From the Jupiter Courier:

The sixth annual Jupiter-Tequesta Athletic Association's Jupiter Courier-Jupiter Jam basketball tournament is this weekend and has drawn 143 youth basketball teams from all over the state.

"This will easily be the biggest tournament in the state of Florida and may end up the biggest in the Southeast because of the shear numbers," tournament director John Van Dusen said. "Normally, you won't find boys and girls playing in the same tournament."

The Jam will be spread out on 14 courts at 11 gyms in two counties with teams coming from as far away as Fort Myers, Naples and Pensacola.

This year, JTAA officials have made the tournament a qualifier for the USSSA state boys and girls' tournaments next month.

The tournament has drawn 80 boys and 54 girls' teams. They range in divisions from under 10 to 16 year olds.

Action today runs from 8 a.m. to 9 p.m., and Sunday play is from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m.
