PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Hunter C

The final week of the regular season's POW goes to HUNTER CAMERON! Some kids dream about what Hunter was able to accomplish with one swing of the bat. It may be considered the biggest hit of the season because it was all about being part of a team. It was about one player picking another player. It was about the crowd cheering with excitement.

It was the top of the 6th. There were 2 outs. The Cards were trailing the Mariners 5-4. Jackson Pavitt stood on 3rd. One of the best pitchers in the league, Kyle Gould, stood on the mound. On an 0-1 count, Hunter came up HUGE with a deep line drive that bounced over the fence a ground rule double that scored the tieing run. Pinch runner Nick Stewart scored the go ahead run on a single up the middle by Jake Macaulay. Jack Grummett pitched a great game lasting 5 2/3's innings before Trey Williams came in for the save. Final score: Cardinals 6 Mariners 5

PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Kurt Pitching

This week's Player of the Week award goes to.....KURT VANDOR! In 2 games the Cards went 1-1, Vandor went a combined 4-8 with 5 RBIs and 1 run. Vandor has a strong .370 batting average for the season and 9 RBIs which leads the team. Equally impressive is his pitching. Kurt pitched in both games giving up only 1 earned run in each appearance. Overall for the season, Kurt is 1-0 with 1 save, a 2.73 ERA and an incredible 25 strikeouts in only 11 innings pitched. Way to go Smokin' Kurt! Keep up the great effort!

Vandor commented after the loss on Saturday versus the A's, "Offensively, I'm getting comfortable with driving the ball and not just making contact. As for pitching, I've been able to come in either mid to late game situations and throw strikes. I'm just happy Coach John has shown the confidence in me to pitch in key situations in the games we've played. But overall it's not about my individual stats, it's about how we do as a team. We battled hard against the A's and came up just short. Hopefully we can get in the win column at our next game."

PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Jackson P

This week's Player of the Week award goes to.....JACKSON PAVITT! In the 2 games the Cards went 1-1, Jackson went 3-4 with 3 runs, 1 walk and 1 stolen base. As impressive as his offensive statistics for the week were, it was Pavitt's great defense that earned him P.O.W. honors. He made several plays, including covering 1st base perfectly on a bunt attempt and making an incredible diving catch in the outfield that stopped a rally by the 1st place Mariners.

Pavitt, in his 2nd season in the Majors, commented after the win on Tuesday versus the Mariners, "We had 2 really good practices on Sunday and Monday and we were able to execute offensively and keep the pressure on the Mariners, especially stealing extra bases. As for my hitting, I worked really hard in the off season with the Midnight Suns program and it's a good feeling that I'm consistently hitting the ball on the sweet part of the bat. Coach John and Coach Andy have been working with us on hitting line drives down and it just goes to show, the more you practice, the more prepared you'll be for the games."
