Rebels Compete at the Ed Arima Invitational Tournament at Sumner HS
The Rebels wrestling team participated in the Ed Arima Memorial Tournament at Sumner High School on Saturday. We had reasonable success taking 11th place out of 16 teams in the strongest field we’ve seen this year, in spite of the fact we were a little short handed with three key members unable to attend.
Jake Brown once again led the Rebels by winning the 119 pound championship. He’s on a roll winning championships in two consecutive tournaments. His record now stands at 12-1, with his only loss coming to the state’s 2nd ranked wrestler at 119 pounds.
Stefan Kiehn took 3rd place in the 215 pound class, in his first tournament action of the year.Taking 5th were Michael Przystupa at 145 pounds and Jeremiah Laufasa at 189 pounds. Alex Linett, Dylan Marshall and AJ Singer all stepped up to wrestle at higher weights and represented Juanita well. Commitments like that are the foundation for future success. We have two dual meets this week (Wednesday at home against Mercer Island). Our next tournament is on the 24th at Tahoma High School in what is certain to be our toughest competition until the state tournament.Wednesday, January 14

Rebels Wrestling Compete at the Tahoma Mat Classic on Jan 24
The wrestling team represented Juanita very well this weekend at the tough Tahoma Invitational, placing 6th out of 16 teams in an incredibly difficult field. We finished ahead of 3A 9th ranked Bonney Lake and 4A 12th ranked Todd Beamer, as well as Kingco’s Bothell, Lake Washington (reduced squad) and Eastlake. We were the second highest placed 3A team, behind only 6th ranked Auburn Mountainview. Cody Treddenbarger took the championship in the 285 pound class with a pin in the finals in 24 seconds. In the semi-finals he avenged his only loss of the season by beating Nick Hall of Kent Meridian in overtime.Jake Brown took second place to 2008’s 3rd place finisher at the national freestyle tournament, and tournament outstanding wrestler Efrain Aguilar of Graham Kapowsin (4A team). Aaron St. Martin placed 3rd at 135 pounds, also avenging a loss by pinning Bothell’s Spencer Cannon. His only loss came to the state’s top ranked 135 pound wrestler Tyler Lamb of Tahoma (4A team).Placing 5th were Jonathan Iwazaki (or Lazarski in Tahoma-ese), Jeremiah Laufasa, Stefan Kiehn and Jory Hamilton.
It seems we are a better tournament team than dual meet team, but that is a good thing. Our final dual meets are this week, facing Woodinville (4th place at Tahoma) and Inglemoor at 5:00 on Tuesday at Inglemoor; and I need to confirm this, but it seems our dual Thursday is now a double dual at Redmond High School where we will face Redmond and Lake Washington. All four teams we face are very good, and it will be a good final test before the post season.

Kingco 3A JV Qulaifier: 2 JV Wrestlers Advance to the Kingo 3A Championship
Juanita had three wrestlers participate in today’s (Jan 31) KingCo 3A JV Qualifier Tournament. Derek Reubish took the 152 pound championship, Jory Hamilton took 2nd place in the 285 pound class, and Alex Linett took third place at 125 pounds. By placing in the top two, Derek and Jory are now entered into the KingCo championships next Saturday at Liberty High School. Alex is an alternate, so if any other wrestler at 125 pounds is absent or doesn’t make weight, Alex will be entered into the tournament.
