Jordan Places 2nd in Utah State Girls 5A Soccer Championship
Jordan Lady Diggers ended their season in 2nd place after losing to Mountain View Saturday. In the twelfth minute #18 Amanda Feigt scored her 18th goal of the season after receiving a pass from the head of Senior Kelli Crooks. Jordan was in control most of the game and Amanda almost scored again in the 50th minute when her shot hit the crossbar. In the 65th minute Mountain View scored on a ball headed into the goal on a corner. In the 80th minute Mountain View was given a free kick. A Mountain View player jockeying for position in the wall elbowed a player out of the way and ducked just in time for the ball to pass through the wall and into the goal. Jordan played hard for the last few minutes, but time ran out before they could score again.

The bad news: Jordan will miss seniors Sarah Wall and Kelli Crooks who have made great contributions to the team this year.

The good news: Jordan has (1) a lot of talented players who will be returning next year, (2)the best coaches, and (3) supportive parents.

Congratulations girls on a great season!

Jordan Girls Soccer Team Headed to State Championship
By defeating defending champ Alta Thursday, Jordan has earned the right to be in the Utah State 5A Championship game on Saturday. The game will be played against Mountain View at 3:30 p.m. at Cottonwood High School.

From the first touch of the ball the Lady Diggers showed they were on the field to win. The first goal was scored early in the game as Rochelle Hoover passed a nice ball through to Amanda Feigt on the right side. Amanda took the ball, flew past the Alta defender, and kicked the ball to the back of the goal. Jordan played good team soccer with quick passing in the middle by Rochelle Hoover, Camee Adams, Lora Smith, and Kelli Crooks. The 2nd goal was scored before half time by Kelli Crooks after Camee Adams performed one of her amazing flip throw-ins to the front of the goal. The ball was bouncing freely when Kelli got her foot on it and kicked it past the keeper.

Each time the Alta defense got a chance at the goal, the Jordan defense of Jennie Haertel, Jen Zelinski, Kristen Stahl, and Kasi Gehring shut them down.

During the 2nd half, Alta had several attempts at the goal on long balls kicked deep and some good shots on goal that were saved by keeper Sarah Wall. Two of the shots where just inches out and hit the bar. Alta's goal was scored on a penalty kick awarded after one of the Jordan players accidently hit the ball with her hand in the box. Others contributing their skills to the game were Lacy Jenkins, Tara Copeland, and Lindsay Lofgren.

Congratulations to Coach Goyzueta and Haertel as well as the "heart" of the team cheering loudly on the sideline. Great game girls! You deserved the win!

Jordan heads to Semi-finals after win over Orem
Jordan Lady Diggers continues their season with a win over Orem 6 goals to 0. The team came to the field determined to win. Amanda Feigt scored first after receiving a pass from Lacy Jenkins. Camee Adams placed the ball in front of the goal on a corner kick and Kelli Crooks knocked it in for the 2nd goal. While breaking to the goal, Amanda was tripped in the box and a Penalty Kick was awarded. Rochelle Hoover took the PK and placed the ball low in the left corner of net for goal #3. The next goal was scored by Rochelle with an assist from Amanda. Before the end of the half one more goal was scored by Lora Smith after receiving a nice ball in front of the goal from Lacy. Orem played well in the half with three shots on goal saved by Jordan keeper Sarah Wall.

One goal was scored in the 2nd half when freshman Katie Koelliker scored on a ball passed to her by Lindsay Lofgren. The Jordan defense of Jen Zelinski, Jennie Haertel, Kristen Stahl and Kasi Gehring shut down Orem's offense with speed and quick action. Tara Copeland made a great contribution in the midfield. This was a great game to watch. The Jordan girls played as a team as they worked the ball down the field with short passes and quick changes in field direction. Others who played were Joni Carlson, Kristyn Miyake, Justine Richards, Crissy Sybesma, Krystal Taylor, Heather Perry, Robyn Crawford, Carlie Hansen, and Meka Harper. The shutout credit is shared by Sarah and Mona Taylor.

Jordan Defeats Davis in First Round Game
Jordan Girls Soccer coached by Jesus Goyzueta and Ann Haertel "beet" Davis five goals to three in the first round of the State Soccer Tournament Tuesday. The first goal of the game was scored in the 7th minute by Lacy Jenkins with a high shot to the corner over the Davis keeper's head. In the 20th minute, Lisa Sekulich of Davis scored on a header as the ball was delivered in front of the goal. The score at half time was 1-1.

The second goal was scored in the 45th minute when Rochelle Hoover received a ball from Lacy, was able to cut the ball around a Davis defender and put a shot past the keeper into the goal. In the 70th minute Camee Adams crossed the ball to the left of the goal to Amanda Feigt who kicked a hard shot through the keeper' hands and Lindsay Lofgren pushed the ball into the goal.

Tara Castelli of Davis then scored when a high shot slipped through the keepers hands. Jordan continued an offensive attack when Amanda took advantage of a slip by a defender that allowed her to dribble to the goal and place the ball in the back of the net. Rochelle, Kelli Crooks, Camee, and Lora Smith fought hard for control in the midfield and as a result, the fifth goal was scored by Lindsay Lofgren on a break-away ball played through by Amanda.

The Davis team never gave up and Tara Castelli scored their third goal near the end of the game on a free kick that sailed over the wall and keeper into the goal. Solid defense was played by Kasi Gehring, Jennie Haertel, Jen Zelinski, Kristen Stahl, and keeper Sarah Wall who stopped six shots on goal. Others who got game time were Crissy Sybesma and Katie Koelliker.

The next game will be Thursday, October 19 against Orem.
