MAROON WINS AGAINST STILLWATER GOLD
Jenks Maroon stifled the Stillwater Pioneers on their opening posession of the ball and then took the lead with a touchdown run by Hayden Ashley on Maroon's first posession. Maroon was able to capture the extra point taking them to a 7-0 lead early in the first quarter. During the Pioneers' next posession, a tackle by Bobby Davis brought them to 4th down with 9 yards left they were unable to capture, turning the ball over to Maroon. A pass from Drew Templeton to Phillip Scott brought the team to within a few yards of the goal line. James Steiner carried the ball into the end zone on the next play, but the Pioneers stopped the extra point attempt and the score stood at 13-0. Late in the 2nd quarter the Pioneers scored with a long touchdown run, but were stopped on their attempt at the extra point. The first half ended with a 13-6 lead by Jenks Maroon. The 2nd half opened with Jenks Maroon taking posession of the ball at the Pioneer 45 yard-line. Two runs by Hayden Ashley put the ball on the 1-yard line where quarterback Drew Templeton ran it up the middle to score Maroon's third touchdown of the game. Hayden Ashley's field goal attempt hit the uprights and the score was 19-6. The Pioneers' next attempts were thwarted when Zach Kukal tackled the quarterback deep in Pioneer territory and a pass attempt was batted down by Chasen Umholtz. Neither team was successful in scoring and the ball passed to Maroon and then back to Stillwater. Maroon continued to push the Pioneers deeper into their own territory with a tackle by Phillip Scott and a pass play was stopped with a tackle by Reese Hatheway, forcing the Pioneers to turn the ball back to Maroon. The 4th quarter saw lots of action, but no additional points. Nicky Woodley cleared a path for James Steiner on a run toward the goal that gave Maroon a 1st down. But the follow-up run by Hayden Ashley was called back on a penalty and the ball was eventually turned over on downs. The Pioneers tried to capitalize on their last posession but were stymied by Maroon and ended up attempting a pass play that was intercepted by Reese Hatheway. Final score for the home game was 19-6.
