Jenks Maroon opened the season with a home game against Bixby Red at the Jenks High School field. Though a disappointing loss, there were many bright spots throughout the game.
The tackling efforts of Phillip Scott and Chris Knight helped hold Bixby scoreless in the first quarter. Bixby scored their first of two touchdowns during the second quarter but the Maroon Defense stopped them on the extra point attempt. A series of penalties kept Maroon from making a first down and forced them to turn the ball back over to Bixby. A great sack by Nicky Woodley gave Bixby a loss of two and pushed them toward a turnover on downs. Bixby recovered on a fumble by Maroon as the first half came to a close with Jenks Maroon 0--Bixby Red 6.
Maroon continued to put forth a great effort during the second half. A fumble recovery by Bobby Davis got the ball rolling, but both teams failed to score during the third quarter. The fourth quarter started with a bang on a great stop by Bobby Davis. Once Maroon had the ball in their posession a handoff from Drew Templeton to Hayden Ashley led to a Maroon first down but the team was stopped and eventually turned the ball over to Bixby who scored a touchdown but were unable to make the extra point. Final score: 0-12.
