JACKSON WRESTLING CLUB: Program Overview
The current Jackson Youth Wrestling program was established in 1997 in order to increase the amount of participation and the skill level in the sport of wrestling within Jackson Township. The inaugural coaches, Jim Huxford, Frank Weaver and Jon Kinchen began building the program with approximately 35 young wrestlers. After a few years assisting Huxford & Weaver in building the program, Kinchen unfortunately had to attend to other commitments, while Weaver had to leave subsequent to the 2002-2003 season. Beginning in 2001, Pete Rinaldi and Tim Liquori assisted Huxford in his endeavor to maintain the high level of the program he and these prior coaches had established. The program has steadily grown and boasted approximately 150 participants by the 2002 - 2003 season. Since the 2004 season, Huxford and Rinaldi have coached TEAM JACKSON as they competed in the Jersey Shore Junior Wrestling League. Since the 2005 season, as the program continued to grow, Huxford, Rinaldi and Liquori were joined by Jim Royle, John Reese, Charlie DiGiantomasso, Jeff Devenney, Adam Berking, Kevin Burkert and numerous others who stepped up to help continue building the program. Royle, Liquori and Reese worked hard to create other competitive opportunities for additional wrestlers within the 6th Grade & Under League and subsequently the Barnegat Bay Junior Wrestling League, resulting in the program having THREE competitive teams competing in leagues in 2007 & 2008. The Jackson Recreation Wrestling Program is open to all children in grades 1 through 8 who reside in Jackson Township. This year we again have over 100 participants - the eighth straight year of over 100 registered.
Jackson Youth Wrestling
Program Summary
The Jackson Youth Wrestlers have been members of the highly competitive Jersey Shore Junior Wrestling League (JSJWL) since the 2001 - 2002 season. During the first five years, we had a solid showing, with back-to-back 12 win, 3 loss seasons in our first two years, followed by an 11 win, 4 loss record the following year. We finished 4th in the regular season standings among 16 teams the first two years, while finishing 4th and 2nd, respectively, in the JSJWL Championship Playoffs. Our third year, we narrowly missed making the playoffs. Since the 2004-2005 season, our JSJWL team has achieved exemplary results, recording FIVE STRAIGHT undefeated campaigns, going 80-0 in league competition and winning the JSJWL “A” Division Team Championships, as well as the Team Titles in the JSJWL Individual Tournament from 2004-2008!!.
The weight classes in the JSJWL range from 52 lbs. through heavyweight. This team has always been comprised of our most competitive and usually most experienced wrestlers. In 2007, the opportunity arose to enter a brand new league, the Barnegat Bay Junior Wrestling League (BBJWL). Joining this league resulted in additional opportunities for more of our youth wrestlers to be part of a competitive team. For two years, w had three teams, with one competing in the JSJWL and two in the BBJWL, the second of which is designed to assist less experienced wrestlers by providing them with the necessary "mat time" and competitive match experience to enhance their skills and abilities. After the 2008-2009 season, the teams of the BBJWL decided to petition the JSJWL to join the 16-team league, along with a few additional new teams that did not compete in either the BBJWL or JSJWL. For the 2009-2010 season, on a trial basis, the JSJWL expanded to two 16-team Divisions. Jackson was allowed to enter two teams in the more competitive division (the "A" Division) of the newly expanded JSJWL.
All of our wrestlers must adhere to the following guidelines:
First and foremost, your children are here to gain exposure to the sport of wrestling, get in better physical shape and have fun. The coaching staff would like to make this as pleasant and successful an experience as possible for them. Therefore, the aforementioned rules must be followed. The consequences of not adhering to the guidelines are as follows:
Numerous repeat offenses will result in suspension of the wrestler for a period of time to be determined by the coaches. Outside offenses will be dealt with on a case by case basis.
Our practice schedule varies, with different age groups practicing on different evenings at different times. Practices are currently scheduled for Monday, Tuesday and Thursday evenings only. The complete updated schedule is always available at our web site www.jacksonjrjags.com.
The JSJWL matches are generally held on Saturday mornings. Individual and team tournaments are generally held on Sundays, with participation in the individual tournaments optional. Travel to/from tournaments, as well as entry fees, are the wrestler's individual responsibility. Many tournaments are open to wrestlers of all levels of ability and match wrestlers based on their levels of experience as well as their age and weight.
