Joseph H. Haley; Founder (1933-2005)
Joseph H. Haley founded the Jackie Robinson West Little League in the spring of 1971 on the south side of Chicago. Mr. Haley's goal was to provide wholesome, healthy recreation through participation in the program.
Mr. Haley, an educator by profession, used the baseball diamond as an open air classroom to teach leadership skills, team work and self discipline to the his players.
From a modest begining of just one team in 1971 under the leadership of Joseph Haley JRW has become one of the most outstanding community organizations in Chicago.
In April 2006, JRW reigistered 450 children into its Little League program and continues the tradition of service to the community established by its Founder in 1971.
"I pray that those who have been taking part in JRW will continue to do so with the energy and effort that has made it the model of can be done when people work in harmony for a cause". Remarks by Joseph H. Haley- August 20th, 2004 at JRW Awards Banquet
