2008 Team Parent Information

Welcome to Irmo Little League (ILL)! You, our Team Parents, are invaluable members of this organization and we THANK YOU for volunteering to help. For those of you returning for yet another season, WELCOME BACK!!

The information below is a general outline of the various duties that Team Parents are asked to coordinate. Please familiarize yourself with this information and refer back to it periodically throughout the season. If problems or questions should arise that you do not know how to handle, please contact .

CONCESSION STAND

The concession stand is an important source of revenue for ILL. The concession stand is staffed by volunteers. Each family in the Major, Minor, Coach Pitch & Tee Ball is asked to perform volunteer service in the concession stand each season. Parent volunteers in the concession stand are NOT expected to cook food; volunteers help set up, take orders, ring up sales, serve drinks, candy, etc. Volunteers should arrive 5 minutes early the first time they work a shift so that they can be briefly trained on operating the concession stand and other equipment.

TEAM SNACKS & DRINKS

While post-game team snacks aren't mandatory, the kids quickly come to anticipate and appreciate them! As the Team Parent, you will devise and distribute a schedule for snacks.

To make things easy, whoever has "snack duty" for the game can purchase a ticket for each child at the concession stand and hand out to each player on the team.  The tickets are $1 each and the ticket can be redeemed for one drink and one item at the concession stand.

OPENING DAY (March)

Every Spring the League has a walking parade preceding the Opening Day Ceremonies. Your team should decorate a sign for the team to display in for the parade.  The portion of the ceremony at the park usually lasts about an hour. If you want to create a simple banner or flag, the kids enjoy carrying them onto the field. The same banner can be posted on the dugout during games.
OPENING DAY CEREMONIES
After the parade we may have events that also serves as a fundraiser for the league.
The Events Coordinator will contact you with more details about Opening Day.

PICTURE DAY (March/April)

Team and individual photos are taken every spring. Team managers will be notified with the scheduled picture time for the team. Teams should arrive 15 MINUTES PRIOR TO THEIR SCHEDULED TIME. Arriving late will result in delaying the schedule for teams following you.

The photographer will photograph siblings together if families would like to make that request, as long as the siblings arrive together in uniform to one of their teams' times.

SPONSORS

You may have parents on your team who own or work for a business that would be willing to make a tax-deductible sponsorship donation to our league. You may download sponsorship forms from the Forms page on our website.

DUGOUT PARENT DUTIES (T-BALL & COACH PITCH DIVISIONS)

In the T-Ball and Coach Pitch, it is helpful to the managers and coaches if you schedule a "Dugout Parent" for each game.  Please ask the manager, as they may already have someone assigned this inportant job.  The duties of the Dugout Parent include notifying the players of their place in the lineup, making sure that the upcoming batters are ready to go to the plate, retrieving the bat from the field if the hitter reaches base, helping the catcher get his or her gear on between innings, and generally maintaining order in the dugout.

UNIFORMS

The league will provide jerseys, pants, belt, sock and hats.

PLAYOFFS

The Major, Minor, and Coach Pitch have League Championship playoffs after the regular seasons. All teams are part of the playoffs. Playoffs extend the playing schedule by up to two weeks, and may go on beyond the end of the school year. Please be sure the parents on your team are aware of this so that they don't schedule vacations that will leave your team short of players for the playoffs. The playoff schedule is made available later in the season. The kids always enjoy the playoffs, so it is worth delaying vacations, camps, etc., to participate.

END OF SEASON

Trophies are provided by ILL to the First and Second Place teams in the Major, Minor, and Coach Pitch Leagues following the league playoffs. Some teams elect to award their players with trophies or mementos. This should be decided by your parents and is their responsibility. This also applies to any manager/coaches gifts.  Some teams also schedule team parties for a last get together and awards ceremony. Again, this is entirely optional.
