Rockets open with two wins (05/23/05)
Baseball roundup
PORTLAND — The New York Yankees went through a slump to start the 2005 season. But they never got pummeled like the Indianapolis Yankees did when they came to Portland this weekend.
The Portland Rockets opened the 2005 season with a mercilous beating of the Indianapolis squad, ending both games by the mercy rule 10-0 and 23-2.
The Rockets (2-0) scored three times in the first inning of game one, twice on an RBI single by Phil Bruns, and never had any problems with the Yankees.
Bruns and fellow St. Henry, Ohio graduate Neil Schmitz powered the offensive juggernaut. Schmitz went 5-for-6 with a grand slam, two doubles and eight RBIs, and Bruns finished 6-of-7 with six RBIs.
Brandon Cooley also hit a home run as the Rockets racked up 31 hits compared to just three for Indianapolis.
South Adams graduate Matt Ousley took the win in the first game, tossing three no-hit innings while striking out five. Josh Jellison, a Jay County graduate, earned the win in game two. |

bugger
Hi Everyone,
We wanted to pass along a website we found that has the lowest prices we’ve seen on baseball and softball gear. Better prices than sporting goods stores or other internet sites. Name brands like DeMarini, Easton, Mizuno, Anderson etc. It’s:
www.BatsBatsBats.com
and if you enter the promotional code:
Kzoo9132385
at the end of your checkout, you get free shipping on your entire order too and they have a low price guarantee ( pretty sure it’s match or beat any price ). Can’t beat it.
