Wildcats 1st Place in the "War By The Shore" Tournament
While summer storms threatened the entire state, the 9U Indiana Wildcats competed in the “War By The Shore” tournament in Michigan City. Friday night’s rain brought about flooded fields and delayed all play until Saturday. Saturday's tournament got off to a rough start for the Wildcats, giving up 4 runs in the first to the host team, the Michigan City Wolfs. Evan Patrick and Braxton Allen shared the pitching responsibility for the Wildcats and provided a solid pitching effort for the Wildcats. Defensively the Wildcats made some key plays, such as Bryce Tuttle’s unassisted double play from Center Field, to continue to keep the game within reach. The Wildcats sill found themselves 4 runs down coming into the bottom of the last inning. However big bats stepped up and delivered some timely hits and smart base running to steal the game away. Ethan Higginbotham doubled down the left field line and Andy Bennett, Luke Duermit, Matt Olovich and Sam Darling strung together 4 straight hits to put this one in the books as a W for the Wildcats. It was good to see the team pull together and dig deep to find a way to win.
Moving into Sunday’s final game, the Indiana Wildcats was prepared for battle. Leading the charge from the mound was Jacob Pinson, who threw a solid complete 1 hit game and was backed by great defense in the field. Tony Hoffman stepped up and caught a exceptional game highlighted by 3 put outs at the plate. Braxton Allen led the strong bat attach for the Wildcats, going 3 for 3 and 5 steals on the base path. With this solid attack, both offensively and defensively, the Indiana Wildcats were able to defeat the Dyer Thunder 11-1 taking home first place and a direct berth to BPA World Series Owensboro, KY.
