Wednesday, September 23 Planning for the 2010 Keraga Cup and the combined All Metro Softball Presidents Cup Starting The planning for the 2010 Keraga Cup is starting. Emphasis this year will be on inclusion of all leagues in the tournament. This is a fun week of baseball and the leagues all look forward to interleague play.
Planning on a new and improved All Metro City Presidents Cup is underway. Discussions of having District 7 leagues participate in the presidents cup have been successful to-date. Wednesday, June 10 Plainfield Wins its First Keraga Cup The final four teams were not the usual mix. No Zionsville, neither Fall Creek nor Brownsburg had multiple teams in the finals. In fact neither of these leagues even made the final game. The spunky Pirates from Broad Ripple Haverford conquered the last of the mighty Brownsburg teams, the Yankees. Having survived a number of very close games, they came back again and won in a very close contest. This set the stage for an unusual pairing. The Plainfield Dodgers had not had any problems winning until they got to the final eight. There they met another Plainfield team. This was unprecedented in that this was the first year that three Plainfield teams made the final eight. Winning, the Dodgers faced a powerhouse Fall Creek White Sox team. Fall Creek had won two comeback games in a row and seemd poised to do it again. They came up one run short, losing 7-6.
The final game was spirited and had plenty of offense. Plainfield ended the Pirates run by scoring 10 runs to the Pirates 6. There were several spectacular hits and defensive plays. Everyone enjoyed themselves.
This brought us to the end of another successful Keraga Cup. The spirit and dedication of the final four teams reminded everyone of the fine exapmple of Chuck Keraga for whom the competition is named. Chuck Keraga, the long time president of Zionsville Little League was always trying to make the game fun for all ages and skill levels. This is why we play as regular season teams and not all-stars. We'll have time to be all-stars. Right now we want to play well as the Piratees, the Dodgers, the White Sox or the Yankees. Thanks to all leagues which participated, the managers and coaches who found time to travel to another diamond to let their kids have fun someplace new. Finally, thanks to the unps who allowed the kids to have fun. Friday, June 5 Congrats to Fall Creek for winning the 2009 Presidents Cup Banner It was an all Fall Creek Final for the third year in a row. However, this one was close.
Fall Creek Wolverines and Jayhawks battled in the first game of the night. They were vieing for the chance to play in the final game against the Fall Creek Volunteers. Wolverines won the game with superior hitting.
In the final games the Wolverines continued to hit and mounted a 5-0 lead. However, the Volunteers fought back winning in 6 innings 6-5. What a comeback. Congrats to all. Each player in the final game received a District 8 pin and either a champion or runner-up medal to wear. The game was great, the players were great and the umps passed out some great medals. We look forward to next year's Presidents Cup. |
