NSA Womens World Series Championship Trophy
Mary Connolly (DePaul) checks out the impressive NSA Championship Trophy after pitching the tournament championship game. The Slammers overcame a determined Lady Hearts team 6-5 as the clock ran out at the end of six innings. Mary, Taylor Carter ( Eastern TN State ) and Jenna Nolan (IL Wesleyan) all pitched outstanding games as the Slammers won their second consecutive NSA World Series. The five tournament 2014 season concludes with the Slammers winning three tournaments, one runner-up and one 4th place finish. Final 2014 record was 25 wins and only 7 losses. Great job and best of luck to all of you who wore a Slammer uniform this summer!

Standout Players 2014 Season

Kelsi Jones - Louisville
Louisville outfielder and 3 year Slammer veteran Kelsi Jones dominated in practically every offensive category. Kelsi was the only player to play in all 32 games hitting .435 leading the team in doubles (7), triples (2), home runs (7) and RBI's (34).
Mary Connolly & Nicole Pihl - DePaul
On the mound DePaul's Mary Connolly made 15 appearence going 11-2, leading the staff in IP (72), SO (49) while maintaining a 1.72 ERA. She also carried a huge bat hitting .466 with 3 HR and 17 RBI. Nicole Pihl played a flawless first base, was 2nd on team with 67 plate appearances hitting .390 with 3 HR and 15 rbi. . Collectively the 2014 Slammers had a phenomenal team batting avg. of .398 while the pitching staff ERA was a remarkable 1.91

Jordan de los Reyes - Indiana State University
ISU's star freshman catcher Jordan de los Reyes was the second leading hitter on the 2014 Slammers batting .468 in 18 games with 3 home runs and 13 rbi's. Seen in this picture tagging out a Netherland's runner in our exhibition game in Rosemont, Jordan is a pure power hitter and a fine defensive catcher. She ended the summer season going 5 for 5 in our last two games including the NSA championship game win over the Hearts.

Jenna Marsall - UIC and Jackie Kisman - Oakland Univ
3rd on the team in total plate appearances Slammer veteran and UIC '14 graduate Jenna Marsalli played a great 3rd base hitting .441, 5 doubles and 3rd on the team in runs scored at 19. Her Slammer infield partner Oakland University Jr standout Jackie Kisman was 4th on the team with a .446 avg, led the Slammers in singles and finished 2nd to Kelsi Jones in runs scored with 19. Jackie will be a '15 graduate at Oakland. Because of Jackie's work ethic it is no surprise she is a top D1 athlete.

 Sammy Marshall - Western IL
Slammers vs Team Netherlands
Bandit Stadium in Rosemont, IL July 17,2014
Sammy's one out triple down the left field line in the final inning gave the Slammers a chance to get on the board, but was stranded as the Slammers lost 4-0 to a fine Netherlands team. Sammy Marshall's '14 season batting average of .478 was 5th highest nationally in NCAA D-1 softball.

Defensive Gem
Defensive Gem In the first inning Slammer SS Whitney Arion picked up a grounder neaer 2nd base  and immediately fired a strike to catcher Jordan de los Reyes to nail a speedy Netherlands runner trying to score from 3rd.

By agreement the Slammers and Netherlands agreed to play a 9 inning game. The Slammers had an explosive first inning scoring 5 runs as Jackie Kisman and Whitney Arion opened the game with back to back bunt singles followed by doubles from Mary Connolly, Jordan de los Reyes and Jenna Marsalli. The 5th run of the inning was driven in with a single by Nicole Pihl.
With DePaul's Big East Player of the Year Mary Connolly on the mound the Slammers carried a 5 - 3 lead into the 5th inning where the ball was handed to Indiana Gatorade Player of the Year Miranda Elish. The Netherlands then tied the game in the top of the 5th scoring 2 runs on no hits, 2 walks and 2 throwing errors. Eli
Jackie Kisman
Slammer leadoff hitter Jackie Kisman beats out a perfectly placed bunt to start the first inning offensive outburst that saw the Slammers jump to a 5-0 lead over Team Netherlands. The Dutch eventually overcame that deficit and won the game 6-5.

Sammy Marshall and Miranda Elish
Facing a world class Netherlands team the Slammers were very fortunate to have Gatorade Indiana Player of the Year Miranda Elish on the mound along with DePaul's Big East Player of the Year Mary Connolly. Between them they held the Dutch to only 7 hits in this 9 inning exhibition game. Also great to have Sammy Marshall in the line-up vs the Dutch. Sammy plays for W. IL University and ended the 2014 season with the 5th highest batting average nationally in D-1 softball.

After a narrow 3-2 loss to IL Lightning in first game of pool play, the Slammers used great defense, raw power and the pitching arm of Mary Connolly to beat their next 5 opponents and capture the USSSA IL State Women's Championship for the 6th time in the last 7 years. The championship game against Lady Angels saw Slammer firstbaseman Nicole Pihl break a 4-4 tie with a 2 out 7th inning 2 run blast over the left field fence giving Mary Connolly her 4th win of the tournament.
The Big Hit

A happy Nicole Pihl circles the bases after her 2 out 7th inning 2 run blast over the LF fence broke a 4-4 tie with the Lady Angels sealing the USSSA IL State Championship for the Slammers

Kelsi's Grand Slam!
Kelsi Jones is greeted by Casey after her 5th inning grand slam in semi-final game against the Angels. Flawless relief by Katie McKay for the final inning earned starting pitcher Mary Connolly the victory as Slammers won 7-1. Selected along with Connolly and Jenna Marsalli for the All Tournament Team this was the 2nd of Kelsi's tournament leading 3 home runs over the weekend.

Slammers vs Chicago Bandits
The Ballpark at Rosemont
May 25, 2014
* Congratualtions to long time Slammer stars Kirsten Verdun and Natalie Hernandez who were the only two players selected from tryouts to make the 2 time Professional Champion Chicago Bandit roster. Kirsten was the winning pitcher keeping the Slammers scoreless as the Bandits beat the Slammers 11-0 in this extended to 8 inning free substitution exhibition game.
Although the Slammers were shut own on offense they sparkled defensively. In the 3rd inning with Bandits on 2nd and 3rd and one out, Slammer SS Sammy Marshall ( W IL) speared a hard hit grounder, fired home where catcher Brooke Reimenschneider (ISU) blocked the plate and tagged the sliding runner
