E.I.U's Sarah Coppert Joins 07' Slammers. Gross Adds to Her HR Record At Ball State. Slammers Welcome Indy Pitcher Amanda Wendlinger.
With the addition of EIU's very aggresive leadoff hitter Sarah Coppert the 07' Slammers should have plenty of "meat on the table" for the bevy of Slammer power hitters who are currently tearing up D-1 college stats this year. For example ILLINI sluggers Lana Armstrong, Shanna Diller and Mackenzie Smith are 3 of the 4 top home run hitters on an ILLINI squad that leads the nation in home runs. Add to this trio Ball State's career HR leader junior catcher Abby Gross and it could be a fun summer for this year's Slammers.(photo at bottom of page) Also, Head Coach Bob Zivic has added Indianapolis Greyhound's top pitcher Amanda Wendlinger to the team. Her photo and school profile can be viewed on 2007 Player's page.Together with her sister Beth on the same staff, I'm sure the incredible firepower on this squad will provide both of them with plenty of support.

Looking at the current college stats for the 2007 Slammer squad is like what you would expect from a D-1 All Star squad. One might not think you could find yet another phenomenal hitter, but Head Coach Bob Zivic reports that Illinois State freshman infielder Kara Nelson is producing some amazing hitting statistics. For example, as of April 14 Kara leads the 34-9 Redbirds and is the second best hitter in the Missouri Valley Conference with an avg of .422. The Redbird leadoff hitter leads the conference in total hits and runs scored by a wide margin. For more on Kara see '2007 Players' March 31,2007 3 TOP ILLINI HITTERS ADD POWER TO SLAMMER LINE-UP.
