"The Slammers are a unique group of very talented women's division fast pitch softball players. During the last two seasons we entered ten tournaments and compiled a 54-8 record. Of the ten tournaments we accumulated 6 first place finishes including back to back USSSA 18 and over World Series titles. The key to our success is not about the talent on the field, but has more to do with the personalities of each team member. The term ' family' is widely used in organized sports by coaches, but never is this more evident than with the Slammers. Beginning with the players and support of family members, all playing an important role in our success. Winning is very easy when you're having fun. "

On Tuesday July 28th, 2009 5 Slammers were members of a USSSA Allstar Team playing the professional Chicago Bandits at historic Thillens Stadium in Chicago. It was pretty much all Bandits in a whopping 16-0 victory featuring 3 massive home runs, including a grand slam by Jamie Schloredt .

Dani Miller and Mallory Paine played flawless defense at short and second with Mallory picking up the only Allstar hit off 4 Bandit pitchers. Casey Clutch, chosen as starting pitcher for the Allstars, was rocked for a 2 out 3 run homer by Nicole Trimboli in the first inning but later re-entered and pitched a perfect 7th inning.

Torie Bunzell pitched the second inning and watched as her very first pitch was deposited over the short RF fence by Jamie Schloredt who later added a grand slam off another Allstar pitcher from CHAOS. Torie allowed no more runs in her one inning of work and got out of a 2 out jam by striking out Cheyenne Jenks with a nifty full count change-up. This turned out to be the only strikeout recorded by 5 Allstar pitchers.

Slammers Jennie Jacobs and Bridget Paine were also selected as Allstars but could not attend. Slammer Head Coach Bob Zivic was one of 3 travel team coaches selected to head the Allstars and manned the first base coaching spot. A well deserved honor.

After a hard fought double header loss to the Chicago Bandits the Slammers might borrow a phrase from pro football coach Dennis Green :"The Bandits are who we thought they were.....the top pro team in the country."

Facing Kristina Thorson in her trade mark black-eye make-up the Slammers managed only 1 hit by Dani Miller in this agreed upon 5 inning game. Losing 4 -0, the only runs scored off Slammers pitcher Casey Clutch-Creakbaum were scored on a long, grand slam off the bat of Bandit's cleanup hitter Samantha Findlay. A Slammer defensive highlite came in the very first inning when Abby Gross gunned down the Bandit's Kristie Fox at 2nd base. Final score: Bandits 4 Slammers 0

Trailing 1-0 going into the 3rd inning the Slammers mustered their only real threat off Bandit starter Eileen Canney when after two out both Whitney Davis and Sarah Oppelt singled. However, both were stranded and the Bandits added 2 runs in the bottom of the 3rd to make the score 3-0. This score would stand until the bottom of the 6th when the Bandits scored 4 runs. 3 of the 4 runs came on a Laura Harms home run. Final score at the end of seven innings: Bandits 7 Slammers 0.

Slammer pitcher Torie Bunzell was on the mound in this 7 inning night cap and kept the Slammers in the game until the 6th inning when the bottom of the Bandit line-up showed why this team is so deep.

The defensive highlite of this game again came from behind the plate when Brittney Fisher retrieved a wild pitch and nailed the Bandit's Stacy May as she tried to dive back to 3rd base. Whitney Davis collected 2 of the Slammers 3 hits. Slammer catchers threw out 3 Bandit runners in this double header.

During the break between games honors were paid to members of the All American Girls Professional Baseball League of the 1940's who were in attendance. It was an honor to be with the ladies on the field and watch them throw out the ceremonial first pitch of the second game. (photos below)

Driven in by Liz Smith's clutch hit, Sydney Lisy scores game winning run VS Bloomington Hearts in championship game. Losing 2-1 going into 5th inning a HR blast over CF fence by Sadie Conner tied the game. Lisy followed with a double and scored in a cloud of dirt on Smitty's single up the middle.
