Sharks finish tied for 25th at ASA Nationals!
The Sharks finished tied for 25th in a field of 138 teams at the ASA 18U 'A' National Championships. After a rough start by losing the first two games, the Sharks fought their way through losers bracket by defeating teams from Ohio (Sting, 5-0), the Pride from Phoenix Arizona (2-1), the Kansas City Lasers (6-5 in 9 innings), the San Diego Legacy (5-1), the Rebelz from Redding PA (1-0), and finally lost to the Lady Blues from North Carolina (6-2) on Friday afternoon. The week was a wonderful experience for the players as they had a chance to play the best competition from across the nation and also got to show their skills to many college coaches and scouts. Many players received personal invitations to numerous campuses across the south east and midwest. We look forward to many of the players receiving scholarships for softball this fall. Check back for details. Way to go Sharks on a great summer!

Sharks repeat as ASA Class 'A' State Champs
The Sharks went 5-1 to claim the ASA State title and earn a trip the the 18U ASA Nationals this past weekend. They beat the AL Vipers in the opener 7-6 in a game that almost got away. The next day we got in our first game at 8:00 am against the Senators from Montgomery as Emily shut them out for 4-0 win. Then the rain came and created a delay and the tournament was forced to push all games to Sunday with a 1:30 minute time limit. The Sharks had to play the Sharks gold in the next round and found a way to beat them 3-0 with strong pitching from Kristen and solid team offense from Beth, Whitney, Kristina, Erin, Danielle and Stacie. After that they meet the Birmingham Mustangs and battle three innings to a 0-0 tie. Then the bats came alive and the Sharks put together a string of hits and won 6-0 behind a 1 hit shut out performance from Kristen. This win placed the Sharks in the championship series where the Thrillers would have to beat them twice. The thrillers won game one behind solid pitching and early game miscues by the Sharks as they lost 4-0. It was now 1215 Am on Monday morning the the champion would be decided in the final game. The Sharks came out swing and got 2 runs in the first inning and never looked back from there as they went on to win 10-2 in 6 innings to claim the State title for the second year in a row. Erin threw a 3-hitter and the team put together 10 hits to go with their 10 runs in the win.

Courtney Underwood
Sharks, Kristen Beddingfield, Courtney Underwood and Stacie Sanders all signed on to play softball at Wallace State College in Hanceville Alabama next season. The three will join a freshman class of eight as the Lady Lions look to continue the powerful softball program. Kristen will be a work horse as a starting pitcher and firstbase as well as a welcome hitter with good power. Courtney will be a solid anchor in the infield at Wallace and brings lots of power and consistency to the plate. Stacie brings the versatility to play almost anywhere as she can play in the infield at Short, firstbase and also brings a big arm and good speed to the outfield. Stacie's bat has been rated as one of the most powerful in the state and give the Lady Lions more power for the long ball next year. Stacie will also be playing Volleyball for the Lady Lions. Great job ladies and good luck not only at Wallace but also on to the four year college in a couple of years.
