I will soon be adding our Youth Roster to our site.  After each tournament I will update the wrestlers info to show the number of Wins, Pins and Medals each wrestler has achieved.  I cannot keep up with each child, so please make sure to email with your childs updates after every Tournament.   I also have the option to add a photo to each of our wrestlers profiles.  I will only do that if a parent requests it.

We would like to welcome the Hoover High School Wrestling Team to our website.   Coach Sayers has requested we host their Roster, Calendar and Scores.  The Calendar dates for the High School are now added to our Calendar along with the Middle School and Youth Schedule.  Be sure to check out the Calendar any time you are looking for something to do.  There may be a Tournament near you.

The Roster for the High School has also been listed.  I will post the wrestlers achievements when they are made available to me.  If you email with results for a wrestler I will add them to their profile.

Welcome to the Hoover Wrestling Club. Hoover wrestling club is dedicated to giving youth wrestlers K-6 grades a head start to learning the basics of wrestling. The Hooverwrestlingclub.com website will give you a general idea of what to expect as well as strive to answer any questions you may have.

Please welcome our new coach Wes Barnes. Coach Barnes is a former Hoover wrestler and the Bumpus Middle School wrestling coach.

Practices will begin Thursday, November 1 at the Hoover High School Practice Gymnasium.  Check out Calendar for important event updates.
Days: Tuesdays and Thursdays
Times:        K-2nd grade            6:00-7:00pm
                  3rd-6th grade         6:30-8:00pm

There are many reasons for your child to wrestle.  Wrestling teaches hard work, discipline and self confidence.  Wrestling builds strength, agility and endurance that will make your child a better athlete in any sport.  Most importantly your wrestler will learn to be self motivated.  Though he will be part of a team, he will ultimately walk onto the mat and stand alone to show everyone how his perseverance and determination have paid off.   Come join us and give your child a jump start on every other sport they compete in.

What should a parent and wrestler expect?  Hard work and perspiration mostly.   Practice starts with the basic stances and moves as well as learning how to score points and how to win.  Intensity levels will increase as time goes on.

Tournament dates have been set.  Check our Calendar for dates and locations.  The tournament locations and dates are subject to change.   Saturdays with no tournaments may be changed with little notice.   Information will be posted as soon as I am notified.

The Hoover Tournament is the first tournament of the year, December 8th.  We need parents, grandparent, siblings and other Hoover Wrestling supporters to help with the Tournament.  There are lots of jobs to do.  You will be relieved of your work anytime you have a child wrestling.  Please get with us to volunteer.

Most tournaments have a weigh in on Friday nights.  It's not required, but if you can swing it you should try to go.  You will need your USA Wrestling card.  We will provide this to you as part of your signup fees.  You pay to enter the match.  It's not expensive and helps pay the tournament workers.

Show up on Saturday with enough time to weigh in if you didn't go to the early weigh in.  Also show up early enough to warm up and stretch.  Have fun.

Wrestling Tournaments are huge events and they last all day.  Depending on your wrestlers age you may get early, mid day or late events.

Regardless, a list of first round matches will be posted just before your age groups matches are to start.  Matches are between the same age group against children within five pounds of each other.  If you child is 67 pounds he will wrestle in the 65-70 pound class referred to as the 70 pound bracket.

A match is usually three two minute rounds.  Matches are scored on a point system or by pinning an opponent’s shoulders to the mat for 3 seconds.

There are two brackets. A Winner and Loser bracket.  If a wrestler wins his match he stays in the winner bracket.  Once a wrestler has lost a match he is in the loser bracket.  He can still place in a medal position from this bracket.

Medals are awarded for First, Second, Third and sometimes Fourth place at each tournament.  So there is something to look forward to for all the hard work.

Once a wrestler has lost twice you are done for the day.  Hang around and cheer on the friends and other Hoover wrestlers.  We need each others support.Make sure your wrestler eats well before and after practices and tournaments.

Be sure to have your wrestler take a good bath with anti-bacterial soap after a practice and match.  Mats are washed down after every practice, but wrestling is a close contact sport and every precaution is made to make it a clean and healthy environment.
