Jr. Pee Wee CHEER News & Team Updates
HOLLISTER VIKINGS
JUNIOR PEE WEE CHEER
NEWS
(update from Coach Yvonne on 08/22/2012)
PRACTICE – Attendance is VERY important as we are learning our competition routine and need everyone in order for stunts and formations to work out correctly. Thank you for making sure they are all present, physically AND mentally! Communication is key!
The board and coaches want to be sure that all parents are aware of the parking and driving/dropping off rules in the parking lot. The school has been generous in letting us use their facilities so we need to be mindful in return. NO PARKING in the drive through section closest to the school building on the right. Please drive slowly through all of this parking lot as kids are roaming around and not always paying attention. Parking on the left, up to the Port-o-Potties, is RESERVED for coaches with gear that they need to bring to the field each day. PLEASE PARK PAST THE POTTIES!!!! Follow the road signs upon entering and exiting. There is ONE ‘in’ driveway right next to the baseball backstop. You can then either turn right and EXIT in that second driveway on Line Street, or drive through and exit back on Homestead.
DO NOT ENTER FROM HOMESTEAD. It is an EXIT ONLY. And be mindful of your speed on the way out. It is a residential area and if complaints continue, I’m sure we will have the local police monitoring that area.
During practice there will be some days that we don’t take a snack break. We are now on a tight schedule to get all of our objectives done at each practice. If we aren’t making good progress, we may just power through. We always take quick water breaks, but snack is a low priority at this point. Please make sure your child has a snack and a bathroom break BEFORE practice!!! These interruptions slow us down. IF there is time, we will take a short snack break.
Also, I am not a good ‘garbage’ person. When girls ask where the garbage is, I tell them, ‘your
backpack’! Please go through their backpacks after practice as they have been in charge of ‘packing out’
what they ‘packed in’ to practice.
CERTIFICATION – This Saturday, August 25th, is certification day. Attendance is MANDATORY! We will be meeting at our practice spot (on the parking lot side of the fence) at 7:45AM SHARP! We will then walk over to meet the buses and take a ride up to Santa Clara Fairgrounds. If all things go smooth (a big IF), we may return to Hollister before noon. We will send out a text blast that we are on our way home once the busses have left. That will give you about an hour to get to RO Hardin to pick up your child. Please meet us where the buses disembark. It’s a bit hectic, so please say hello/goodbye to one of our Jr. Pee Wee coaches so that we know each child has been matched up with their parent. I will be in Santa Clara with our book, getting everything certified and getting our coaches badges. 1st Asst Coach Mary Bravo will be the coach in charge of getting the girls to and from Santa Clara. Coach Cindy Hone and Coach Krisnna Castillo will also be going with the girls.
Yesterday at practice 8/21, your cheerleader was given a white shirt to wear for Certification. Please have her wear this shirt, their purple shorts, athletic shoes and their hair up in a pony with the camp bow. I will have bows for the girls that did not attend camp, by Friday.
Please pack a lunch/snack for your child. If we go through the line early, we usually eat right after or on the way home. Food and WATER are essential as we will not be providing any or stopping anywhere for those items. WATER ONLY! No Sodas or GaterAde, etc. allowed on the bus.
The girls may want to wear their warm up clothes over their shorts and t-shirts, for the cool morning. That is fine. Please have them bring their backpacks or duffles with room for their lunch and their warm ups when they are done with them. HAVE THEIR NAME ON ALL JACKETS AND PANTS!
FOOTBALL JAMBOREE - This Sunday, August 26th, is our first football game. Please be at the high school football field by the snack bar at 12:45PM. Our game starts at 2:00PM and ends at 4:00PM.
A reminder to parents that all people, ages 16 and over, will be charged $8.00 for entrance to this game. This fee goes to Peninsula Pop Warner. This will be the only game you will need to pay for, unless we go to Playoffs! There will be an entrance fee at the competitions, too. Otherwise, normal season games for home and away are free of charge.
Please try on your entire uniform before Sunday! Ensure that you have a good fit, no-show socks, clean shoes (you purchased with uniform), and hair up in a tight ponytail. It will be warm so we will not wear the liner, but bring your liner in a Zip Loc baggie just in case. Please wear your camp bow for this game.
HAIRPIECE MONEY- A reminder that all hairpiece monies are due by this Friday, the 24th. Thank you!

(update on 08/22/2012)
If you wish to drive up and have your child released to you AFTER certification, that is fine. You must pick up your child AT THE BUS not when they come out from being certified.
Please talk to your child and remind them that this is important that they are on their best behavior while on the bus and at certification. There will be a point when at certification where they will be asked to be silent while they are waiting. If they are talking or being loud and unruly, then our whole team will be asked to of to the end and our certification time will be pushed back one hour. So, we would appreciate if parents could explain the importance of good behavior.
Dress for Certification: Viking's t-shirts that were provided by the league, shorts and comfortable shoes. They will have to take their shoes off when weighing in, so it is best if they wear shoes that they can easily take off and on.
Please pack your player a lunch as there will be NO food provided. Make sure that your child has plenty to drink as well.
Jamboree: Our Jamboree is this Sunday, August 26th here in Hollister at the High School. Our Jr. Pee Wee game time is 2:00pm. Please have your player there no later than NOON or check-in. Since they will be weighing in at Certification the day before, there will not be weigh-ins before this game. So, please come with full gear (all pads, game pants, socks, shoulder pads, helmets, girdles with pads and cleats). It is always important to bring BOTH home and away jerseys to every game.
There will be an $8 entrance fee at the gate for Jamboree. Players and children 15 years of age and younger are free. Normal season (both home and away) games are free after Jamboree. Only Jamboree and play-off games have an entrance free which is from Peninsula Pop Warner and NOT the Hollister Vikings.
Just a friendly reminder: If you haven't paid your snack fee, please do so ASAP. Please remember to pick up your trash before leaving practice. Remember to respect the speed limits in the neighborhoods surround R.O. Hardin and park only where you are permitted to park.
Also, remember when watching the games there is NO sideline coaching. Keep in mind that you a re sitting next to someone's mom, dad, wife, brother, sister, grandparent or friend and it is best to keep negative comments out of the stands wether it be about a coach or another player. Please give your best effort in being the best fan you can be!
Thank your for your cooperation in making this season a successful one!
