Girls' Youth Basketball & Intro To Basketball: Welcome
Once again, West Ottawa Public Schools and Holland Township Recreation will work together in offering a complete Girls’ Youth Basketball program for the 2016-2017 school year featuring various levels of play. The Little Panthers program has been in existence for many years but with West Ottawa and Holland Township working together. This program has been a fun and and valuable learning experience and features new recreational and competitive options. See the information listed below for the various levels of play for this school year!
We will also feature another edition of our popular "Intro To Basketball" scheduled for Saturday mornings on November 19, December 3, 10 & 17. See details below!

The Girls Lakeshore Area League Middle School games scheduled for the Holland Civic Center and at Saugatuck High School are still on as scheduled

Due to the very dangerous conditions of the roads as of right now along with the expected snowstorms that are on their way, West Ottawa Public Schools (along with multiple West Michigan schools and entities) have cancelled all activities for Saturday, December 17. If possible, we will be looking to reschedule all of these events on Saturday, January 7. Please keep that date open. Also, as of now the Hope College Women’s basketball games scheduled at 1pm & 3pm are still on but please check their web site at www.hope.edu or listen to 1450AM (WHTC) or 92.7 The Van for information on possible Hope cancellations. Panther Pride - Middle School Division
For the sixth year in a row we will be offering a Middle School Area league. This program is open to current middle school students in grades 6, 7, & 8. This is an area-wide league featuring other communities from West Michigan. This year's league will feature teams from Allendale, Holland, Zeeland, Saugatuck, Grand Haven, Spring Lake, Fennville, & South Haven. Games will be on Saturday mornings beginning November 1. Weekday and/or weekend practices (including possible Sundays) may be scheduled depending on team availability. Since it is an area-wide league travel will be required, however most games will take place at West Ottawa, Holland, and Grand Haven. Each weekend set of games will be played at one venue. The season will conclude no later than December 17. The cost is $55.00. It will go up to $60.00 on October 10.
We will have open registration for all participants. However, for all grades, depending on skill level and overall numbers, we may opt for one of several options including combined 6th/7th and/or 7th/8th grade teams, single 6th, 7th & 8th grade teams, or upper/lower divisions of play in which some 7th and/or 8th graders may play down into a lower grade.
We will have a middle school clinic at West Ottawa HS North Building on Saturday, October 15, from 9am-11:30am
Little Panthers - Part I - Elementary Divisions
This program is the first step in the Girls Youth Basketball program. This Elementary Division of play that focuses on the development and introduction of game play for youth basketball. Changes put in place three years ago will remain for the 2016-2017 school year for this program including the addition of current second grade girls to the program in what will be the re-vamped Elementary Division of play. Teams will be comprised of current 2nd and 3rd graders as well as current 4th & 5th gradersFor 2016 we will have the new West Ottawa Girls’ Varsity Head Coach, Jeff Bauer, as well as players and coaches from the West Ottawa Girls’ Basketball program, and Holland Township Recreation staff administer the program. The Elementary division will include instructional clinics as well as game play. Two Saturday clinics will take place before the games begin. The clinic dates will be October 22 & 29 with all grades attending from 9:30am-11:30am at the West Ottawa HS SOUTH gymnasium. Games will be played on Saturday mornings beginning November 5 with a select few Monday night games, also. Practices will be scheduled during the week with teams practicing once a week for the duration of the program. Once again Holland Township Recreation will be offering our Intro To Basketball Camp. Here are the details...
- What...this is an introductory class that teaches basketball "basics" with a fun twist. This class features Holland Township staff and some very special guests during the class times
- Who...Boys currently in grades K, 1st & 2nd and Girls currently in grades K & 1st
- When...Saturday Mornings from 8:30am-9:30am on November 19, December 3, 10, & 17
- Where...Great Lakes Elementary School
- Fee...fee is $35.00 but goes up to $40.00 beginning November 2
- Deadline...Monday, November 14, unless it is determined we are full based gym space and staff before that date
Panther Pride - Part II
For the eighth year in a row we are offering a Panther Pride - Part II for girls currently in 5th & 6th grades. This is an area-wide league featuring teams from Allendale, Holland, Hamilton, Saugatuck, Fennville, Holland Christian, Allegan, & Zeeland. Teams will be separated by grade and play in specific leagues per grade. Home games will be at a West Ottawa facility with away games being played at various sites throughout West Michigan. All games will be on Saturday mornings beginning January 14. Registration will be open in mid-November with practices and teams arranged before the season begins. The cost is $55.00. Deadline for registration is December 5
The cost may be as high as $200.00+ with the bulk of the fees going towards tournament fees and supplies
Tryouts/Evaluation Day will take place in mid to late April
Tournament options include sites such as Grand Rapids, Holland, Kalamazoo, St. Joseph, and Muskegon and other possible options
Practices will begin in early May and could be twice a week including Sunday options
