Teams are made up of players ages 13-15, who return each year to the same team. Known for primarily choosing District All-Star level players from Hillsborough, San Mateo and Belmont. SEASON: Application forms are mailed in October to people who contact the league and ask to be added to the mailing list. Tryouts take place in December, followed by the draft. Games go from May to July. Games and practices are held in San Mateo. Some years there is also a "farm league" with several teams made up of players not selected in the draft. Teams are made up of players ages 13-14. At the end of the season, each team keeps four players to return to the same team next year. SEASON: Tryouts take place in January, followed by a draft. Games go from March into May. All-Star teams are chosen and compete in a Senior Little League World Series. Players range from 13-18 years of age and are separated into three age-specific divisions (i.e., 13-14, 14-16 and 16-18). Based in Redwood City, the Senior League welcomes every Hillsborough player, regardless of skill or talent (unlike other leagues). As a result, all players who register will have a spot on a team. This is good baseball but competition and season standings are not highly stressed. The pitcher's mound is 52 feet from home plate (compared with 46 feet in HLL) and bases are 70 feet apart (compared with 60 feet in HLL). Players are 13-14 years old. SEASON: February through June. Mail-in registration in October. Walk-in registration dates (at Burlingame Recreation Office) in October and November. Games are played at Bayside Park in Burlingame. NOTE: Non-Burlingame residents are placed on a waiting list and allowed entry into league on a "space available" basis after registration closes and the number of Burlingame resident players is determined. Usually, 5-10 HLL players move into BYBA each year. Any player not invited onto a team, but wishing to play, can generally be placed onto a team by contacting SAY Baseball. Days begin at 9 a.m. and end at 3 p.m. Camps are held at the state-of-the-art baseball facility at the College of San Mateo. The camp welcomes all skill levels and is led by college coaches and players. Instruction includes pitching, fielding, hitting, baserunning, motivation, nutrition and goal-setting. Four-day softball sessions are held Monday through Thursday in June for 7-12 year-olds. Days begin at 9 a.m. and end at 2 p.m. Camps are held at the new softball facility at Carlmont High School in Belmont. The camp welcomes all skill levels. Instruction includes fielding, hitting, baserunning and softball games. This includes pitching, hitting, fielding mechanics, outfield play and baserunning. Camps are held throughout the summer, as well as during winter and spring breaks, in Burlingame and Half Moon Bay. The Starting Lineup staff also operates coaches' clinics and helps teams of all levels achieve their goals. The summer camps are for 6-12 year-olds in June and July. T-Ball camps are also offered. One-week pitching and hitting camps (two-hour sessions) for ages 12+ start in July. Camps accommodate all skill levels. These camps have received high marks from HLL families in the past. Camps are offered to boys and girls ages 6-13 and run Monday through Friday, 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. In addition, pitching instruction is offered on a year-round basis to groups and individuals. Mike was a legendary pitcher at Serra High School and coached the Serra pitchers for years at one of the best baseball programs in Bay Area. Mike has given pitching instruction clinics to HLL managers in the past. Terry and Ed offer 30-minute lessons. Players can also rent batting cages for sets of 20 balls on a walk-in basis. Terry works with HLL's All-Star teams on the finer points of hitting. Triple H Baseball Camp (Formerly Central Park Baseball Clinics) (650) 573-9223 Former Minor League baseball player Tony Sylvestri (currently the baseball coach at Aptos Middle School) offers summer camps for players ages 7-12. Sessions are held from 9 a.m. until 12:30 p.m. in July and July at San Mateo's Fitzgerald Field in Central Park. Each day, three fundamentals are taught in various stations. Examples include hitting, fielding and baserunning. Players are grouped by age and experience. Each day concludes with a game. "Little League is a very good thing..."
