Highlanders Little League: Divisions
Select Season:
Minors
Fundamentals are still the focus in this division but some competitive spirit begins to show. More advanced rules are taught and pitching development is a priority with kid's pitching. Finer points of hitting are developed and bunting is introduced. Base running and defensive play is introduced while throwing, hitting and fielding fundamentals are reinforced. Scores and standings are recorded and everyone bats in the order. Practice and games are usually 2-3 times a week.

Majors
This division is primarily 10, 11 and 12 year olds. While skill development, team play and fun are still the emphasis, players become more noticeable competitive. Pitching development is still encouraged. More advanced hitting, bunting and base running techniques are taught. Team play is emphasized while a consistent demonstration of fielding fundamentals is now the goal. Practice is usually 2 to 3 times a week until season starts then 2-3 games a week.

Division Breakdown
The players in Highlanders are organized into divisions based on skill and safety. The divisions are T-ball, Farms, Minors, Majors, Juniors and Seniors. The players in Minors and above are drafted based on tryout performance and/or prior performance in the league. Details of each division follow.

T-Ball
This division introduces baseball to very young players, primarily 5 and 6 year olds, who are developing skill and coordination. Age is determined by age on April 30th of the season. Skills in hitting off a tee, throwing, fielding and running the bases are taught. Every batter hits each inning and there is usually one game on Saturday and one practice during the week. Practice is usually an hour and the games last 1-1.5 hours.

Farms
This division is primarily 7, 8 and some 9 year olds. The focus is on good fundamental throwing, fielding and hitting skills. More baseball rules are taught. The balls are machine pitched. Playing time is evenly distributed and everyone bats. Practice and games are usually twice a week.

Juniors
This division is quite competitive with base distance resembling that of major league baseball. Base stealing is refined as well as pitching and defensive strategies. This division readies the player who might be advancing to high school or other travel/tournament teams. Highlanders has combined with Nationals in the past to field a Juniors team. Players interested in Juniors should contact Joe Bozzuto at 368-3433.

Seniors
Eligible 15 to 16 year olds
