Thought for the Week

This week's "thought for the week" comes from Trey:

"Champions take responsibility.  When the ball is coming over the net, you can be sure I want the ball".  (Billie Jean King)

This week's bonus is about ATTITUDE.  Your attitude controls everything you do.  Two things to think about this week:

"The best preparation for tomorrow is to do your best today".

"Expect to win.  Play to win".  (No matter who we are up against, this has to be the way we think).

Tuesday, April 27
Thought for the Week

"To be a CHAMPION, you have to believe in yourself when nobody else will".

Tuesday, March 30
Thought for the Week (3/29)

                                It's About the Investment

"Life is too short to be mediocre... your level of success is determined by your level of committment".

This week's quote came from Callie Alford.  Whether we are talking about life, or tennis, your return is directly proportionate to your investment.

Thanks Callie.  Tennis balls for you.

Monday, March 22
Thought for the Week 3/22

                                      Live Like a Thoroughbred

Thoroughbred:  Is someone, people or horses, who give their best with every pump of their heart to every second of their lives.

                                            Stay After It

Try.  Make mistake.  Fail.  Learn.  Try better.  Make mistake.  Fail.  Learn.  Try better still.  Make mistake.  Fail.  Learn.  Repeat until... Try. Succeed.  THAT IS PERSISTENCE.

Sunday, March 7
"Thought for the Week" 3/8

"Regardless of how you feel inside, always try to look like a winner.  Even if you're behind, a sustained look of control and confidence can give you a mental edge that results in victory".

Ashley Merkel submitted this week's quote.  A can of tennis balls coming your way.

Week #1's quotes were from an anonymous source.  However, Demetrius Lewis will receive a can of tennis balls for week #1.  At the Hobson Camp, Demetrius hustled and did everything with enthusiasm.  Coach Smith proclaimed, "Demetrius, I like the way you pick up the balls".

Monday, March 1

Each week we will post a quote which will be our "thought for the week".  Players can email favorite quotes to Coach Smith and Coach Landy and we will choose one each week.  The player who submits the chosen quote will receive one brand, spanking new can of tennis balls (to help you get some additonal practice). Remember, it's not the award - it's what it represents.  This week we have two quotes from an anonymous source.  The emphasis is on getting yourself in peak physical condition.  "It is never too late to do the right thing".

                                           Survival of the Fitest

Every morning in Africa, the sun comes up and the gazelle knows it must outrun the fastest lion in order to stay alive.  Every morning in Africa, the sun comes up and the lion knows it must outrun the slowest gazelle in order to eat.  So, it doesn't matter if you are the lion or the gazelle... when the sun comes up you better start running.

Bonus this week in honor of the Olympics finishing up Sunday:

"Gold medals aren't really made of gold.  They're made of sweat, determination, and a hard-to-find alloy called guts".  (Dan Gable - former olympic wrestler)

Sunday, February 21

We currently have four former Heritage players playing college tennis:

We want to wish our best to four former Heritage players now playing college tennis.  Each of these guys helped us in our goal of establishing a top notch tennis program.  We're proud of them and grateful for their enthusiasm and leadership.

J.J. Ramsey (So. / USC-Lancaster)

J.J. is in his 2nd year playing singles and doubles.  He has been a major contributor to the boy's team the last year-and-half.

Blake Craft (So. / Lagrange College)

Blake played #1 singles as a freshman.  He is finishing up his basketball season before he hits the tennis courts.

Cody Provence (Fr. / Mercer)

Cody is a member of the Mercer University men's team.  He worked hard all fall (practicing, weight training, and conditioning) to earn a spot on the team.

Jonathan Stone (Fr. / Fort Valley State)

Jonathan is currently playing #2 or #3 singles and #2 doubles for the Wildcats.  He has been a major addition to the men's team.
