SUMMER HIGHIGHTS
Monday August 11 9 - 3 loss to LSW Astros
Chris Roeplen held LSW in check over 3 innings. Dan Villela's 2 out single scored 2 and Brian Trabulsi went deep to tie the score at 3 after 4 innings. The Astros big 5th inning but the game out of reach.
Saturday August 9 7 - 0 Loss to Seaford Vikings
Runners were stranded at 3rd base in each inning. Defensive lapses sabotaged a solid effort by Jack Graffignino and Luke Zecola on the mound.
Wednesday August 6 5 -2 Loss to LI Storm
The pitching was decent but the bats were silent in the loss.
Tuesday August 5 11 - 9 Loss to LI Hurricanes
The first place Hurricanes scored 4 runs in the last 2 innings to beat the Hawks. Chris Roepken, Kyle Fagan and Brian Trabulsi all tripled to lead the offense. Joe Trapasso held the Hurricanes in check during his 3 innings on the mound.
Sunday August 3 10 - 6 win over NBNM Cyclones
Kyle Fagan recovered from a tough first inning to hurl 4 innings and Chris Roepkin covered the last 2 to get the win. The Hawks scored 6 runs in the top of the sixth to win the game. Joe Trapasso's leadoff walk and John Condon's sac bunt preceeded Roepkin's single to tie the game at 5. Luke Zecolla's double scored Roepkin and Fagan followed with a 2 run HR. After a Jack Garffignino walk Brian Trabulsi hit a 2 run HR for the final runs.
Saturday August 2 10 - 8 win over South Shore Monarchs
Six runs in the top of the first were not enough for an easy victory. Brian Trabulsi's 2 run HR was followed by rocket line drives from Chris Roepkin, Joe Trapasso and James McCleary. Trabulsi's 3 run HR in the 4th gave the Hawks their final runs. Joe Trapasso pitched the fifth inning, helped by Nick Roepkin's leaping catch of a line drive and Jack Grafignino escaped from a bases loaded no out jam in the sixth by starting a neat 1 - 2 - 3 double play.
Sunday July 13 4 - 4 tie with Long Island Pythons
Jack Graffignino and Joe Trapasso shared the picthing duties in the 8 inning tie stopped because of the league time limit. Graffignino's 2 run HR was the big hit of the game.
Saturday July 12 3 - 0 Win over NBNM Bashers
Brian Trabulsi tossed a 1 hit shutout in Hawks summer debut. Luke Zecola, Ryan Hurtling, James McCleary and Michael Giugliano each had big hits to spur the offense.
SPRING HIGHLIGHTS
Doubleheader Sweep vs Levittown NorthStars - Sunday June 1
Luke Zeccola survived a difficult first inning on the hill to get the win over the second place Levittown NorthStars getting relief help from Chris Roepken who closed the game out with a scoreless final inning. The offense pounded out 19 hits in the win with Zeccola, Jack Graffignino, Brian Trabulsi and John Condon with 3 each and Dan Villela 2. Zeccola hit his first home run of the season but the offensive star of the game was Ryan Hurtling who hit 2 home runs and had 6 rbi's. The Hawks completed the sweep with a thrilling 9 - 8 win in the nightcap. Trabulsi had 3 more hits while Joe Trapasso and Roepken each had 2 hits and 2 rbi's. Michael Giugliano and Sean McNamara each had a hit, rbi and run scored in the win.
NJBL Memorial Day Tournament - Hawks finish 2 - 2
The team rebounded from losses on Saturday with a doubleheader sweep of the SYAG Braves and Elmjacks on the tournament's second day. Ryan Hurtling and Sean McNamara led the offense with 2 hits and Jack Grafignino had 2 rbi's to support the pitching of Brian Trabulsi. Sean McNamara got the save with 2 innings of scoreless relief in the 7 - 1 win. The offense banged out 11 hits in the second game win over the Elmjacks led by Dan Villela and Luke Zeccola each with 2. Zeccola hurled 4 innings of shut out relief in the 6 - 1 win.
NBNM Cyclones - Sunday May 18
The Hawks returned to the field after a week off and the rust showed. A sloppy first inning left the team facing an 8 - 0 deficit. Brain Trabulsi and Ryan Hurtling hit back to back home runs in the 4th inning for the Hawks and Luke Zeccola doubled in a run. Jack Graffignino hit his first homerun of the season in Game 2. The line drive gave the Hawks a 2 - 1 lead in a game suspended because of rain.
Win and a Tie vs. LSW Black - Sunday May 4
Joe Trapasso singled home Dan Villela in the bottom of the 6th inning to tie the score at 7 - 7 in a hard fought first game. Brian Trabulsi hit his second homerun of the year and drove in 3 runs. Michael Ryan pitched 4 innings of strong relief to allow for a comeback from a 4 run deficit. Jack Graffignino continued his strong campaign on the hill when he allowed only a single run in relief in Game 2. Chris Roepkin had 2 hits in the 5 - 4 win.
Doubleheader Split vs. LI Pythons - Sunday April 27
The Hawks won their first game of the season splitting a doubleheader with the LI Pythons. The Pythons won the opener 8 - 3 when a bases loaded threat ended the first game. Michael Giugliano and Sean McNamara had 2 hits each and James McCleary missed a grand slam by a few feet during the come back. Jack Graffignino struck out 8 and issued only a single free pass in the nightcap, a 5 - 3 win. 3 runs in the first inning were the result of 4 consecutive line drives off the bats of Graffignino, Brian Trabulsi, Ryan Hurtling and Luke Zeccola which gave the Hawks an early 3 - 0 lead. The Pythons scratched back to tie in the 4th. Ryan Hurtling stepped into the batters box with 2 outs in the bottom of the 5th and launched a screaming line drive home run providing the winning margin.
Sunday April 20 vs Garden City Nighthawks
Michael Ryan tossed a gem in the first game of the double header in a 2 - 0 loss. Spectators saw an outstanding game as both teams played outstanding defense in game that took only 70 minutes. A fourth inning double, scoring 2 runs, was the difference. Ryan Hurtling had 2 hits and Johnny Condon scorched 2 line drives - both caught by the the GC rightfielder - the second with the tying runs on base. A rough first inning found the Hawks down 3 - 0 in the nightcap. Singles by Jack Graffagnino and Brian Trabulsi made the score 4 - 3 but the 5th inning rally fell short. Chris Roepken was the hard luck victim in Game 2 as his screaming live drive to right center found leather with a runner on base.
Tough Doubleheader Loss to LSW Astros - Sunday April 13
A furious 5 run comeback fell short in the opening game, a 7 - 6 loss. Brian Trabulsi led the offense going 3 - 3 including a long home run. Key hits came from Mike Giugliano, James McCleary, Joe Trapasso, Luke Zeccola and Chris Roepken in the rally. Sean McNamara provided 3 innings of solid relief before the comeback. LSW scored 2 first inning runs and 2 runs from sloppy defense and led 4 - 0 before the Hawks began another late game charge. John Condon made several outstanding plays behind the plate to lead the defense and McNamara's double scored 2 before being stranded in the last inning. Jack Graffagnino hurled a scoreless inning in relief.
Hawks lose on Openning Day to Glen Cove Cardinals - Sunday April 6
The Hawks debut on a chilly, windy April morning began the 2008 season. A 7th run 4th inning saw the teams tied before Glen Cove prevailed 12 - 7. The bats were silent in the second game as GC swept the doubleheader in a 7 - 1 win.
