The newest version of Hartland's Basketball Team is taking shape as the boys team participated in the invitational TOM IZZO SHOOTOUT at the Breslin Center last Friday and Saturday. The Hartland squad did very well for a team that is rebuilding from the spectacular season of 21 -3 of this past year. Our look will be different in many ways from the hot 3 Pt. specialists and toughness of Stevens, Cagle, Jones, and Kaul. This new look team should have many more "slashers" and speed.
The coaches got to look at our candidates to evaluate their potential for the upcoming year. We went 3-0 on Friday with wins over Lansing Everreit , Taylor Kennedy, and Owosso. We split on Saturday, but we got a win in the tournament.
The players had a tour of the Spartan Locker room where they sat in the cushy lounge chairs of the player's lounge watching the big screen tv until Coach pushed them out the door.
Varsity team members from last season showed much improvement. Trever Braun, Clay Lineberry and Matt Poches played a lot of AAU this spring. Jake Webb recovered from a severe ankle sprain to show a lot of mobility and aggressivenes on both sides of the ball. Darril Holden has improved his jump shot and rebounding ability.. Phil Annese played baseball this spring and he has finally had the time to get back on the court. He improved at every game this weekend.
Other varsity candidates showed much promise if they continue to improve. We found plenty to work on in the gym this summer which will start on Monday afternoon.
Have a great week.
