Harleysville FC - United '96F: Welcome
Tuesday, March 8
HFC United '96F's headed to NJ for the NJ Wildcats Spring Kickoff and finished as Semi-Finalists. United has moved up to 32nd in the GotSoccer rankings as a result of the tournament.
HFC came out a little slow in the first game, its first on a full sided field since the fall, and went down 2-0 shortly after the half to FC Bronco's. United started to find their soccer legs in the final 15 putting three quality chances up but failed to find the back of the net.
The second game, against 20th (NJ) ranked Morris United, was a different story. United managed the possession and held Morris to very few chances in the first half despite playing into a stiff wind. Caroline Menges found the back of the net off of a corner in the 50th to put United up 1-0. Mattasyn Shisler made three acrobatic saves to keep Morris United off the score board and HFC controlled the flow of the final five minutes to preserve the win. The win guarenteed HFC at least 160 bonus ranking points.
The third game was against a well coached FC Copa team in a constant drizzle. United again managed the possession and found two goals off of set pieces to secure 2nd place in the bracket and collect the 90 Semi-Finalist points.
While United fell short of the goal to win the tournament, they did come away with valuable ranking points and full sided work. HFC's fitness looked good and they got in good work to help them prepare for the upcoming President's CUP.

The HFC United '96F's had a strong showing at this past weekend's EPYSA Indoor B State Cups. United advanced to the Semi-finals where they fell to the eventual Cup winner Lehigh Valley United 4-2.
United started the day with a 3-0 win over the Warminster Lady Hawks, before taking down FC Montour 5-0. A 2-1 loss to Danubia Roadrunners in the 3rd game of group play meant United need to wait out the result of the FC Montour v. Warmister match. FC Montour defeated Warminster to create a three way tie in the group and HFC United advanced on Goal Differential.
In the Semi-final match, LVU jumped out to a 2-0 lead before United pulled one back. LVU then found the net twice more to make it 4-1 with about 12 mins remaining. United made it 4-2 and continued to pound the shots but the LVU keepers came up with five huge saves to preserve the win.
Advancing from Group play and competing well in the Semi's was a great step forward for the squad. United will continue to train through the winter and play a second session in the 422 Sportsplex 9v9 JV HS League to prepare for PAGS Spring League and Spring Cup play.
