Who are the Hammerheads?
The Hammerheads Sled Hockey Association is a sled hockey team for physically disabled boys and girls ages 6-18 that competes within the Atlantic Sled Hockey League. The Flyers Skate Zone in North East Philadelphia is where the Hammerheads call home. The Hammerheads practice every Saturday morning from 9 a.m. - 10 a.m.
What is Sled Hockey?
Sled hockey is a sport almost identical to ice hockey, the difference being that the players sit in specialized sleds, instead of on skates, because they are physically disabled. The goal of sled hockey, more specifically the Hammerheads, is to provide physically disabled children and young adults an oppurtunity to engage in physical activity, interact socially with others who are physically disabled, and provide an outlet for them to take part in a competitive sport.
