One of our Girl’s Majors Teams coached by Patty Snyder and Stephanie Pease; won the UGSL softball tournament on April 24th. The annual tournament took place in Berlin and was to be played Friday through Sunday of that weekend. Due to impending inclement weather on Sunday the championship game was moved back from Sunday afternoon to Saturday evening. As it worked out the team played Friday night and beat the Sewell 1 team 9-5. They came back on Saturday afternoon to beat Magnolia 13-3. After a small break and a major shift in temperatures, the team went on to win against Oaklyn 14-4 putting them in the championship game. The final game was played under the lights, after a brief intermission to warm-up with some hot chocolate. The girls, weary but determined scored four runs in the first inning against the Sewell 2 team letting them know they meant business. Their unbelievable fortitude and defense helped them succeed to secure the win after their opponent loaded the bases with no outs in the bottom of the 6th inning. With a timely call by the field umpire and two defensive plays the girls came out on top 7-5! After playing, 6 games in 5 days, more importantly 4 tournament games in less than 24 hours, the team, led by their two outstanding 11 yr. old pitchers, Alex and Kiersten Pease became victorious. The team’s overall record this season including the tournament is 7 and 1.
