Connecticut Hackers Baseball: Welcome
Monday, August 1
The Hackers have clinched the 2011 Connecticut NABA regular season title, after sweeping the Milford Monsters this weekend, 10-2 and 8-7. They finish with a 19-1 overall record heading into the playoffs where they will be the #1 seed.
In game 1, Jeff Farrell went the distance on the hill, striking out 8 batters along the way. Leading the offensive charge was Mike Townsend (3-4 with 3 RBIs and 2 runs scored), and Nick Pereira who belted his first homerun of the season (3 RBIs).
Game 2 got off to a harrowing start as Mike Doran let up 6 runs in the first inning. The Hackers jumped on the board right away, posting 2 runs in their half of the first. Doran settled down to pitch through the 4th without any further damage. The offense rallied for 4 runs in the 5th, to put the Hackers ahead 7-6. A Milford homerun was offered up by Dan Kaminski in the 6th to tie the game at 7 a piece. Ryan Mazurkivich put the game out of reach with the go-ahead RBI in the top of the 7th, scoring Farrell. Mat Jaronko entered into the save situation and locked down the win for the Hackers.
As the #1 seed heading in the playoffs, the Hackers will face the Guilford Grasshoppers next week at Naugatuck High School. The 9-inning game will be played at 10am, Sunday, August 7.
