Hudson Youth Baseball

The Hudson Youth Baseball organization joined the Cal Ripken, Jr Association several years ago. Below we share with you the VISION, GOALS, and OBJECTIVES of the Cal Ripken, Jr. Association. Below are the BIOS of our volunteers.

Summary of our program. Our program is for boys and girls ages 5 - 12. Based on your age you are divided into different divisions; T-Ball, Rookie, Minors, and Majros. However depending on skills a older and younger child might play up or down in a division. Age is determined by a childs are as of April 30th of the current season. Detail descriptions of the different baseball divisions can be found under handouts.

This season, like last, our focus will be to again provide a positive learning environment for all the kids involved. The league is structured to offer the right amount of skills training, the appropriate rule structure and competitive nature for the different age groups. Our kids will learn about working as a team, understanding the game of baseball, physical and mental discipline and above all sportsmanship. The organization is structured to foster these ideals and perpetuate them year after year both at the board level and the coaching level.

We will be entering our sixth year as a member of the National organization of Babe Ruth/Cal Ripken Baseball and Softball and it just keeps getting better. We are all looking forward to this season’s activities and are confident in the leagues ability to provide a positive kid focused atmosphere for you and your children.

We are continuing to grow our “Co-director” mentoring approach for the 2008 baseball season. This approach pairs up a veteran director from the previous year with a new director that has moved up from a lower league. It allows for the transfer of critical information required to successfully run each division, in hopes of minimizing the impact year to year. This program ensures a shared responsibility while providing the new director with the necessary skills and knowledge to remain in that roll for a second year, where they, as veterans, pass their skills and knowledge down allowing them to move up the next year.

We would like to take this opportunity to introduce you to your 2008 baseball organization

The President of Hudson Youth Baseball/Softball (HYBS) is an elected position currently held by Jim Rivela. This is Jim’s first year as president of HYBS, he oversees both the Baseball and Softball programs and continues to carry the effort in the league’s “kid focus” theme, actively working league fundraising and ensuring equality between baseball and softball. Jim has served in several capacities for HYBS. He has been a coach in all the leagues. He was also the Co-Director of the Minors, has been the Tournament Director for the past 3 years, designed the HYBS website and still acts as the Webmaster for the organization. He also has been the League Secretary, a Tournament coach for the past 3 years, as well as a patched umpire, and has a child participating in baseball.

The Vice President of Baseball is an elected position that is currently held by John McGraw. John has been involved with Hudson Youth Baseball and Softball for over 6+ years being a coach. He served as a tournament Co-Director, has been the Tournament Coach for 2 years and now brings his experience and knowledge up to the next level as our new Vice Presdent.

The Babe Ruth Directors is an appointed position that was accepted by Mike Scafidi. Mike was the minor and major director in the past. He has decided to continue his directorship role as the Babe Ruth director. Mike has 8+ years, many of those as both head coach and assistant coach. He has created a “kid focused” environment last year and we can only see it getting better in 2008.
.

The Major League Director is an appointed position that has been accepted by Rick Karlson. Rick has been the Minor League Co-director the last two seasons and prior to that he served as the Co-director of the Rookie League. Rick has been involved with Hudson Youth Baseball for 10+ years serving first as an assistant coach and the last 6 seasons as a Head Coach. Rick has also been involved in the Hudson summer tournament teams for the last 5 years as an Assistant Coach and was the Head coach of the 2006 12U team and the 2006 9U team. Rick is also a Babe Ruth/Cal Ripken League certified Coach.

The Minor League Directors is an appointed position that was recently accepted by Steve Landry and Steve Cariveau, who will be acting as co-directors. This is Steve’s second year as a Minor league co-director. Steve Landry and Steve Cariveau has both been involved with Hudson Youth Baseball for over 5+ years serving as head coaches. Steve Landry has also served as Co-director of the rookie league, and both gentlemen bring a vast knowledge with them to league. We look forward to having them with us for 2008 and the future.

The Rookie League Director is an appointed position that was recently accepted by Bill Pratt and Paul Panneton, who will be acting as co-directors. Bill and Paul have a combined experience of over 5+ years. Both have served in various coaching positions within the HYBS organization.

The T-Ball League Director is an appointed position that is currently held by Nimesh Singh and Scott Giusti, who will be acting as co-directors. Scott returns as our T-Ball director for a second season. He has served as a coach in the T-ball league and brings his experience and knowledge of the game to the foundation of the league. We welcome Nimish as our newest member.

Please join us in welcoming and supporting our 2008 baseball directors. We are confident that they will provide your child with a positive learning experience in a safe and fun environment.

Note: All terms of elected and appointed officials run from November 1, 2008 through October 31, 2008. Appointments are recommended by the President with the approval of the Executive Committee. Elections for 2008 will take place in June 2008.

GOALS
"It's our goal that each youngster who plays in the Cal Ripken Baseball Division will not only learn the basics of the game, but will also experience the same level of excitement Cal Ripken felt every day he put on his uniform to get ready to play. There's nothing else like it!"

Babe Ruth
