The Gridiron

Last evening a presentation was made to the NOYFC by the Gridiron, the new Medina football group. Theses gentlemen are well educated, kid oriented and straight forward. By a unanimous vote the Gridirion was accepted into the NOYFC for this season.  The Gridiron is working with Medina Youth football, the group in the Wadsworth league, and mending those long broken fences. This is a tremendous opportunity for Medina to heal some old wounds, and just give the kids a place to play.  Our best estimate is that with all thats gone on, at least for this year, Medina Youth will grow significantly, and the Gridiron will not be as big as the Bees program was.  This is frankly healthier for both programs. It will also allow us to play other cities and not be so Medina dominated on our schedule.

I will say that the whole atmosphere around this move in NOYFC is upbeat and excited. We are looking forward to a new season, a new group, and a new attitude. With the addition of Berea to the mix, we are gonna have some fun!!

MBYF

There have been some new developments in regards to Medina Bees Youth Football. The NOYFC has voted to remove MBYF from our league. The remnants of the MBYF board were in attendance and requested we in fact remove them. The program will have to be dissolved with other legal ramifications to follow.

In order to assist the Medina residents to find a place for all these players to play, we are moving forward with another group. This group will make a presentation to our board shortly and if admitted will get our full support. This group has also been speaking with the Medina Youth football program, and trying to mend fences there that have fractured that community for a long time. Our hope is that this will lead to 2 strong, ethical programs in Medina. Once approved, I will announce who this group is, and who their board members are.  My personal belief is this will be a tremendous addition the league, and bring a much closer relationship to all youth football in Medina and Highland. I will keep you posted.

First day of registration is in the books

We had a really nice turn out for registration, with all our numbers looking promising for this year. If you didnt make it, please try to get there next Sat, again 9-1pm. The sooner we get everyone signed up, the sooner we can start putting squads together.

On another note. as some of you are aware, there are significant issue with Medina Bees Youth Football.  There was a front page article in last Saturdays Gazette, and there will be an investigative report on channel 5 news this Monday at 11pm. Our league, the NOYFC is aware of the issues, and has been dealing with those issues for a month or so now.  I will keep you posted as to the outcome of our decisions.

In the meantime, rest assured HYF has zero debt. We pay all our bills when due and carry no bills on payment plans of any sort. We only spend what we need to, and never more than we have in the bank. Our program is run responsibly, with a full board who approve expenditures.

Our responsibility is to the kids in our program, and any deviation from being responsible caretakers of their program would be unacceptable.

If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to ask. Thank you for your on-going support of the BEST DAMN YOUTH PROGRAM IN MEDINA!!!

Its getting closer..........

The spring break is drawing to a close, and next week you son or daughter should be bringing home a HYF flyer reminding you of the registration dates. We hope to see everyone there.

Also, on a more negative note. Im sure many of you have heard about the trials and tribulations going on with Medina Youth football. The league is looking into the issues, and has been for some time. Let me assure you that Highland Youth Football is strong, organized, and prepared to be healthy and vital to the Highland community for years and years to come. Regardless of the outcome of Medina's program,  we will have a full schedule of games this year, against the likes of Brecksville, Strongsville, Berea, North Royalton, Brooklyn, and Brunswick.

I will keep you all posted as this situation develops.

2011 Season is approaching, and changes

Im sure you all missed me, but Im back now. With a new season looming, some new rules have been put into place, and I wanted to bring you up to speed.

Bantam (7-8 year olds)

Weight limit is now 115lbs, with ball carrier weight being 90lbs.

U-9 remains the same as last year.

JV remains the same.

Varsity (11-12)

Max of five 12 year olds per team, not to weigh more than 120lbs.  Eleven year olds can still weigh up to 150lbs.

It appears we will be adding Berea to the league this year, so that will be exciting. We are also going to adjust schedules so we see far more teams and cities. Some other minor adjustments will take place too Im sure, and I will keep you posted. These changes are all good and for the better.
