KEEPING TRACK OF THE WCWS!
The Women's College World Series opens next Thursday in Oklahoma City. This weekend, eight super regional series will be held with the winner of each series advancing to the WCWS. Again, the ESPN family of networks will broadcast the entire WCWS, as well as all super regional games being played this weekend. However, there are even more ways to keep up with this year's event.

MESSIAH COLLEGE WINS FIRST SOFTBALL NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIP!
Messiah College completed its undefeated run through postseason play, by defeating Coe College 2-0 in the NCAA Division III National Championship final game played Monday at Montclair State University's MSU Softball Stadium. The unranked Falcons (43-4) won all eight postseason games they played, ended the season on a 23-game win streak and allowed only one run in the national championship tournament. Messiah defeated Coe on back-to-back days, both times by 2-0 counts, to take the tournament title.
For 12th-year coach Amy Weaver, it was career victory No. 300. The victory was also Messiah's first national championship in softball and ninth overall national title for the school. Freshman pitcher Jessica Rhoads (28-1) pitched a complete-game two-hitter in the title match. After striking out 19 Coe batters in the semifinal, Rhoads struck out 13 more Kohawks on Monday. For the tournament, Rhoads allowed one run in four complete-game victories. Offensively, Lauren Seneca had a sacrifice-fly and Abby Bergakker hit a solo home run for the national champions.

During that time, Bellevue won 471 games and qualified for postseason play on 11 occassions, advancing to the NAIA national championships three different times. This past season, Lehotak earned Midlands Collegiate Athletic Conference Coach of the Year honors after posting a 29-13 overall record and perfect 12-0 mark in league play.
HIGH SCHOOL
**This past Friday, Frankfort High (MI) and Charlevoix High (MI) dedicated its softball game to the Strikeout Cancer cause. HELP US SELECT THE BEST HIGH SCHOOL ALL-AMERICAN TEAM!
The Louisville Slugger/High School All-American process begins May 18, with the last day of nominations June 18. A high school coach from the nominating school must be a member in order to nominate. The cost is $70 for membership.
College coaches - please make sure the high school coaches of your 2009 incoming freshmen know about this prestigious honor. Once the high school coach joins here, we will send nomination information. If you have questions, please email NFCA High School Liaison Scott Walters.
OHIO HIGH SCHOOLS RAISE FUNDS FOR CANCER RESEARCH!
The Ohio High School Fastpitch Softball Coaches Association recently held its annual "Strike Out Cancer and Hit It Hard" fund-raiser to raise funds and awareness for cancer. Created in 2007, the OHSFSCA has the annual rememberance as a way to honor and celebrate the heroic fights against cancer by family and friends.
High School softball programs throughout the state were challenged to dedicate one softball home game to promote cancer awareness and education. Each team's goal was to raise money toward a cancer foundation of their choice. Many schools also included raffles, shirt sales and donations to raise additional funds. With the help of junior high, junior varsity, varsity and college teams from around the state, this season's drive raised $25,025.50 to be put towards cancer research. Strongsville High School raised the most money on an individual basis with $8,053.50 being collected on its campus.

VOLUME I, ISSUE 9 - MAY 6, 2009
BE A PART OF NFCA'S "FOR THE LOVE OF THE GAME" NATIONAL CONVENTION!
"For the Love of the Game" will be the theme for this year's NFCA National Convention, December 9-12, 2009, at the Renaissance Nashville Hotel in downtown Nashville, Tennessee. Besides the regular great features of past conventions - discussions on the issues, exhibitor show, networking and clinic sessions - the convention's theme will be intertwined into this year's activities.
We also are excited to announce that the NFCA National Convention will have a greater value than ever before. We know these are tough economic times, so we are pleased to be able to offer the following: Attendees registering prior to November 1 can also attend one of the National Fastpitch Coaches College classes associated with the convention or the pre-convention seminar for half-price.
Several schedule changes have been made for this year's event: (1) the golf and tennis tournaments have been moved to the afternoon of Tuesday, December 8; (2) the four-hour pre-convention seminar has been moved to Wednesday morning, December 9; and (3) almost all committee meetings have been scheduled for Wednesday afternoon, December 9.
Make plans now to join us in Nashville for this great event! For more information, including the hotel reservation number, click here.
CITY OF CHICAGO HONORS DEPAUL COACH!
The City of Chicago recently honored DePaul University softball coach Eugene Lenti by declaring April 25th as Coach Eugene Lenti Day.
The proclamation was approved by Alderman Vi Dailey, the Chicago City Council and signed by Mayor Richard M. Daley. In his 28th season with the Blue Devils, Lenti became the 12th Division I softball coach to record 1,000 career wins earlier this year. In conjunction with the city's honor, the university also honored the 2008 NFCA Hall of Fame inductee during a 1,000-victory celebration on that same day. Under Lenti, DePaul has advanced to the Women's College World Series four different times.
City officials were on hand that day as the Blue Demons defeated Syrcause University in a pair of Big East Conference games.

ARMY, KANSAS COACHES ANNOUNCE RETIREMENTS!
Both Army and the University of Kansas softball programs will have new leaders after the retirement of Jim Flowers at Army and Tracy Bunge at Kansas. Flowers just completed his 19th season with Army, as the Black Knights missed out on a berth in the Patriot League Tournament. Bunge is finishing up her 17th season in Lawrence, including 13 years as the head coach. Pitching coach Michelle DePolo has been named the replacement at Army.
At Army, Flowers took on the transition of taking Army softball from Division II to Division I status. The winningest coach in school history, Flowers guided Army to its first-ever NCAA Tournament appearance in 2000 and later earned the school's first NCAA post-season victory in 2002. Under his guidance, the Black Knights won two Patriot League regular-season titles, four tournament titles and reached the NCAA tournament twice.
At Kansas, Bunge leaves as the longest-tenured and winningest coach in Jayhawks history. During her time, Kansas has recorded 405 victories, 10 seasons of 30 or more wins, four NCAA Tournament appearances and the 2006 Big 12 Tournament championship. Off the field, 81 KU softball players have earned Academic All-Big 12 recognition. During her playing career, Bunge earned recognition by being placed in Kansas Athletics Hall of Fame.
