October 6, 2010
Dear Players, Coaches and Fans:
Welcome to 5771, the 7th season of HAYMISH Hockey. We are glad that all of our schools are back, and we look forward to an exciting season. This year our season will run from October 4 – January 23. Schedules and Rosters are Due Wednesday, October 13 Each team MUST play a minimum of 1 game in October (must complete a minimum of 1 game), 3 games in November (must complete a minimum of 4 games), 3 games in December (must complete a minimum of 7 games) and Balance in January
The purpose of the HAYMISH RULE BOOK is for determining the specific rules and regulations for our teams and games. Our rules have specific, added protection for the players involved and for the determination of most facets of our game. If something comes up during the course of the year, it can be addressed as such. If you are at a game and have an issue outside of this rulebook, it should be worked out between coaches and referees away from all players.
This is the 7th year of HAYMISH and its success is based on your adherence to the rules and the support of our agreed upon Mission Statement. Any suggested changes can be made to J. Lassner or D. Gross for vote by all of our coaches.
“It is not whether you win or lose, it is how you play the game”.
Have a great season!
DG & JLVolunteer Co-Commissioners

1.4 USA Hockey Rules for Parents/Spectators-(Excerpt from the USA Hockey Rulebook):
1.4.1 Parents Code of Conduct:
• Do not force your children to participate in sports, but support their desires to play their chosen sport. Children are involved in organized sports for their enjoyment. Make it fun.
• Encourage your child to play by the rules. Remember, children learn best by example, so applaud the good plays of both teams.
• Do not embarrass your child by yelling at players, coaches or officials. By showing a positive attitude toward the game and all of its participants, your child will benefit.
• Emphasize skill development and practices and how they benefit your young athlete. De-emphasize games and competition in the lower age groups.
• Know and study the rules of the game, and support the officials on and off the ice. This approach will help in the development and support of the game. Any criticism of the officials only hurts the game.
• Applaud a good effort in both victory and defeat, and enforce the positive points of the game. Never yell at or physically abuse your child after a game or practice - it is destructive. Work toward removing the physical and verbal abuse in youth sports.
• Recognize the importance of volunteer coaches. They are important to the development of your child and the sport. Communicate with them and support them.
• If you enjoy the game, learn all you can about hockey - and volunteer.
1.4.2 Spectators Code of Conduct:
• Display good sportsmanship. Always respect players, coaches and officials.
• Act appropriately; do not taunt or disturb other fans; enjoy the game together.
• Cheer good plays of all participants; avoid booing opponents.
• Cheer in a positive manner and encourage fair play; profanity and objectionable cheers or gestures are offensive.
• Help provide a safe and fun environment; throwing and items on the playing surface can cause injury to players and officials.
• Do not lean over or pound on the glass/boards; the glass/boards surrounding the playing surface if part of the playing area.
• Support the referees and coaches by trusting their judgment and integrity.
• Be responsible for your own safety - be alert to prevent accidents from flying pucks and other avoidable situations.
• Respect locker rooms as private areas for players, coaches and officials.
• Be supportive after the game - win or lose. Recognize good effort, teamwork and sportsmanship.
1.4.3 Officials also have the responsibility to stop a game whenever parents or spectators displaying inappropriate behavior interfere with other spectators or the game. Officials will identify all violators to the coaches, who will then remove them from the spectator’s viewing and game area. Once removed, play will then resume. Officials also have the right to assess a minor penalty against the team whose fans display inappropriate behavior.
Such disruptive behavior by parents and spectators includes, but is not limited to:
1. Use of obscene or vulgar language in a boisterous manner at any time,

2. Captains, Assistant Captains, and the Head Coach are the only ones allowed to “talk” to the referee(s).
3. Uniform Goal Nets. The nets must be manufactured for the sole purpose of hockey AND adhered to the playing surface.
2.2 Game Timing/Rink Rules/Game Rules/Point Totals/Season Standings
1. The regular season shall consist of 10 games per team, and Starts IN Ocotber and ends January 24. Accordingly we strongly recommend that you leave the week of January 24th-31st as a week to makeup missed/weather related games. Playoffs: Round 1: February 1st-February8th Round 2: February 9th-February 18th Championship End February 1A. Scheduled Games not played, will result in zero points for BOTH teams. Two instances/forfeits in one year will mean the school will not be eligible for the playoffs. If the only issue is not having avaialble rink time, coaches should do their due diligence to try to find another suitable venue, even if it means a neutral site. We strongly suggest leaving the last week of January for weather realted make-up games. Playoffs will not start before February 1st.
2. 3 x 12 Minute Periods, Followed by One 4-Minute Sudden Death Overtime.
2a. If there are time issues based on travel, if the coaches agree the first period shall be running time, except for the last minute.
2b. Overtime will be 3 “Skaters” Plus Goaltenders 2c. A penalty in regulation that carries into Overtime will be upheld. For instance, if at the end of regulation, the game is tied and one team is shorthanded, that team will enter overtime shorthanded, but with no less than 2 "skaters". Overtime would start 3 on 2. 2d. No additional time outs in regular season overtime. The 2 per game, but not more than one per period/ot applies.
3. There will be a 5-minute intermission between each period.
4. Teams will defend the goal nearest their bench in the first period, the goal opposite their bench in the second period, and begin the third period defending the same goal as in the second period. The teams will then switch sides with the first stoppage in play after the mid-point (6 minute mark) of the third period. If applicable teams will defend the goal nearest their bench for the overtime period.
5. 2, One Minute Each Time Outs per game but only one time-out is permitted per period.
6. There will be a crease area, running in front of each goal, approximately 24 inches out. No player can interfere with the goalkeeper in this area. The center line (equidistant between the two goals) shall be the offside line.
7. There is offsides.
8. The season shall go from the Beginning of Octoberr to the end of January. All regular season scheduled games must be played by January 24

10. After Total Points, Head to Head in Games Played then Final score Goal Differential Will be the next Tie Breaker.
11. The top 4 teams in each division will make the playoffs. There will be an Northern tier playoff and a Southern division playoff with the "Pennant" winners facing off in a North vs. South Championship. Finals Championship should be at a neutral site, with shared costs incl 2 the Referee costs. Divisional Championships should have two referees paid for by the home team.
12. A Stat Sheet depicting Schools, Referee, Score by Period, Penalties (both time in and time out, with the description of the penalty), Name of Player with Major Penalties if applicable, and the signature of both coaches AFTER the game for proper recording - OFFICIAL HAYMISH SCORESHEET AVAILABLE BELOW.
13. After game/Soon thereafter, a recap will be sent to the website administrator (if applicable), for proper recording and for the general knowledge of the players/coaches and fans. An e-mail should be sent to coaches/web administrators for proper recording, within a very reasonable time period by both participating teams. Please make sure after the game to have all stats aligned with the other coach before sending to minimize confusion. Please Note: This is the responsibility of the coach, not a player or manager.
14. Games in question, there may be an instance where a coach may want to “protest” a game. In these instances, each coach involved in the game should send a detailed scenario of what occurred TO ALL COACHES and we will do our best to react to it. Please be advised that you may not agree with every result, however being that there is no formal governing body, we will do our utmost as a whole to come to the best solution. Reminder: It is the coaches’ responsibility to show proper respect to players, coaches, referees, and parents in any situation.
14. No games shall be scheduled for later than 815PM.
2.3 Rosters
PLAYERS THAT PARTICIPATE IN OUR LEAGUE MAY NOT PARTICIPATE IN OTHER TEAM SPORTS (I.E. Basketball).
Rosters will be limited to 22. This gives every member of the team a chance to play. Rosters will also include a maximum of 2 coaches to prevent games where there are many “coaches” on the bench, making it difficult for proper refereeing. In the event of a coach quitting/leaving during the season, the new coach should be added to the roster by letting the other teams know via e-mail, and/or if time does not allow before a game, by letting the referee know before the game starts, and having the new coach sign the stat sheet.
Rosters must be set and sent to both commissioners prior to the start of your FIRST GAME OF THE SEASON. The third game of the season should be no later than November 30th A player on your roster MUST be a full time student of your school. This is the coaches responsibility to know.
