Reagan HS wins tourney
Reagan "was" one of the area's best kept secrets!
By:  Jim Hicks (RCS Sports)
Houston Reagan HS won their first tournament of the decade!   The Bulldogs improved to 7-3 after winning the Streater Smith  / Schurr Insurance Holiday Tournament over the weekend.  Andre Potts averaged 18ppg in wins over Brenham, Tomball, and New Caney (props to these guys who made it to the championship).
Reagan is amongst the following list of 10 area varsity teams who I owe apologies to for not including them into our Top 40 list (as published in "Da Magazine").  If you don't think these teams are legit, you had better ask somebody...

SPRING WINS CY FAIR ISD TOURNAMENT

Don Thomas Spring HS
Don Thomas (22ppg/ 6apg)
By:  Jim Hicks (RCS Sports)
Don Thomas scored 26pts, Anthony Penn 12, DeOsic West 11, and TJ Berry 10 to lift Spring HS over Cy Fair (73-71) in the championship game of the Cy Fair ISD Tournament.  Thomas (named MVP) is an unsigned senior point guard who has been leaving his impression on opponents all season.  Spring (10-2) is off to one of their best starts in recent memory.  As for Cy Fair, not many can honestly say they expected the Bobcats to be one of the final two teams standing.  These guys have a solid chemistry and respond very well to first year head coach Barry Townley.  Lawrence Paye and Brandon Darby scored 18pts each while Chris McDermott added 15 in the loss.

In the 3rd place game, Sophomore forward Derail Green posted 16pts as Klein Forest held on to beat Cy Creek (72-67).  Mackey McKnight scored 133pts in five games, including 28pts to propel Langham Creek over Klein (62-57) in the 5th place contest.  The Consolation Finals was claimed by Cy Woods with a close 52-51 decision against C.E. King.  Andre Adams netted 27pts in the win.

BUSH REPEATS @ OUTBACK TOURNAMENT

By: Jim Hicks (RCS Sports)
Sophomore center Cameron Ridley became the first player to post a triple double in the championship game of the Outback Tournament.  He scored 10 of his game high 27pts in the first quarter, while hauling 11rebs and swatting 10 shots to complete the rare feat as Bush High School successfully defended their title with a 62-59 win over Dulles HS.  Unsigned senior Bryant Mbamalu paced Dulles with 26pts and DeAngelo Harrison contributed 14pts (4/18fg) in defeat.
These two teams have faced each other in three consecutive championship games with Dulles winning two years ago during the team's state tournament run.  "I guess we answered your Put Up or Shut Up question", stated Bush head coach Ronnie Courtney while referencing our annual basketball publication's comments related to his team and this very tournament (listed on page 27 of Da Magazine).
Tenth grader Chance Allen hit 10pts as Elkins HS won the 3rd place game (50-46) vs Arlington Bowie.  The Silver Bracket was won by Pearland after their eye catching score of 30-19 against Houston Memorial.  Meanwhile, Willowridge HS got 21pts from Hakeem Randle and 18pts from Derrick Dixon to help earn the Bronze Bracket title with a (58-50) win over district rival Kempner.

By: Jim Hicks (RCS Sports)
Aside from a four point semi final win, Westbury Christian beat Dallas Kimball, Beaumont Westbrook, and Port Arthur Memorial by at least 15pts each while running the table at the YMBL Tournament held on the campus of Lamar University.  Junior floor general Anthony Collins was named MVP of the event while teammates Cody Glenn and Justin Foreman were selected to the All Tournament Team.  Port Arthur Memorial was led by UT-Arlington recruit Anthony Collins with 13pts.

In the 3rd Place game, Westbrook outlasted Ozen (51-48) in a rivalry between the Beaumont based schools. Dallas Kimball bounced from first round lost to complete the Consolation Bracket run.
