On Sunday morning, in their first bracket game, the Eagles beat the Cherokee Reds 4-1 behind the solid pitching of James Civelli and solid defense which included a relay from left fielder Austin Jett to shortstop Cade Heil to catcher Mark Flores for the tag out at home plate.
Our Eagles moved on to face the #1 seed Jr. Grizzlies in the second game. The bats came alive in this game with the Eagles reaching base on 23 hits. Cameron Edwards led the way with 3 innings of shutout pitching and a loooong homerun over the leftfield fence. Jon Wyatt added to the offensive fireworks with two doubles. Defensively, Chris Taddei added a diving catch in centerfield to the highlight reel. Ultimately, the Eagles cruised to a 21-0 victory.
In the finals, the Eagles faced a tough Cartersville Rookies team. After giving up a 4 run lead in the first 3 innings, the Eagles fought back and were down by one run going into the last inning. After a lead-off walk, a hit and another walk, Mark Flores came up with 2 outs and the bases loaded. Amazingly, he delivered with a sharp single to rightfield scoring two runs to give the Eagles a one run lead. In the bottom of the inning, Bradley Kallgren pitched his third shut-out inning of the game behind some excellent Eagle fielding to shut down the Rookies’ offense. On a final fly-out to Nick Topoleski in rightfield, the Eagles came away with a 5-4 victory and took home the 5 foot champions trophy. It was quite a exciting opening tournament for the Eagles!

Eagles win the 10U GGBL championship!
The Collins Hill 10U Eagles were crowned as the 2009 Greater Gwinnett Baseball League (GGBL) Champion on Tuesday, June 9th. On their way to the championship, the Eagles won 6 of their 7 tournament games. In the South Gwinnett bracket, the Eagles faced the Duluth Wildcats once, the South Gwinnett Stampede twice and the Dacula Falcons twice. In the championship series, they faced the Mill Creek Hawks – Red, who won the Mill Creek bracket. In two closely matched games with Mill Creek, the Eagles came from behind in the last inning to sweep the series 2 games to none. On the Mound: Eagles’ pitchers gave up 62 hits and struck out 22 batters. On average, almost 60% of their pitches were strikes. James Civelli, Monty Horn, Nicholas Topoleski, Bradley Kallgren, Austin Jett, Jon Wyatt and Porter Richards pitched for the Eagles. In the Field: At times the Eagles’ fielding was below average, but overall they made 85% of the plays without errors. They made numerous outstanding plays at critical times to keep runners from advancing. At the Plate: The hot bats continued with a total of 59 hits, including 11 doubles and 2 home runs. Porter Richards led the team with 10 RBIs on 8 hits, including 3 doubles and a home run. Nicholas Topoleski also had a great series with 9 RBIs on 10 hits, 3 of which were doubles. Bradley Kallgren joined the season’s home run club with a 2 run shot over the right field fence at South Gwinnett. The entire team rallied when their backs were to the wall and each player was up to the challenge. The team on base percentage was .563 and every player scored at least one run in the series. In the first game against Duluth, Austin Jett scored the winning run after reaching base on a walk, advancing to second on a passed ball and stealing third. Bradley Kallgren came through with a ball up the middle to allow Austin to score. The Eagles only loss in the series was in Friday night’s game against South Gwinnett Stampede. The Eagles were down 9 -1 going into the bottom of the 6th inning, but scored 5 runs to bring the final score to 9 – 6. In the first Championship series game against Mill Creek – Red, the scoring started early. After two innings, the Eagles were leading 6 – 3. However in the next two innings the Eagles only put one more on the board while Mill Creek scored 6 more runs to take the lead 9 – 7. In the 5th inning, the Eagles shut down Mill Creek and then scored 4 runs in the bottom of the inning to regain the lead 11 – 9 going into the last inning. Not to go quietly, Mill Creek scored 3 runs on 4 consecutive hits to take the lead 12 – 11. Monty Horn led off the bottom of the 6th for the Eagles and reached base on a single up the left side. Porter Richards walked, Mark Flores reached base on a beautifully executed bunt single. Bases were loaded with no outs. Jon Wyatt hit a hard line drive up the left side to score 2 runs and the Eagles claimed victory in game one. Game two of the Championship series with Mill Creek – Red was Tuesday night, June 9th. It wasn’t until the 3rd inning that Mill Creek put some runs on the board to take the lead 3 – 0. The Eagles scored three runs in the 4th inning, but allowed Mill Creek to score one more in the bottom of the inning. After 4 hard fought innings, the score was Collins Hill 3, Mill Creek Red 4. In the 5th inning, the Eagles went down 1 – 2 – 3 and Mill Creek capitalized on some fielding errors to score 6 runs and expand their lead to 10 – 3. Once again, the Eagles’ backs are to the wall heading into the 6th inning. Austin Jett led off the inning and reached base on a fielding error. He advanced on a balk and then advanced again on a passed ball. Ryan Jones reached on an error, allowing Austin to score. Ryan stole a base and then scored on a hit by Bradley Kallgren. Monty Horn reached base on an error. Bradley stole a base to reach third. Porter Richards reached on a fielding error that allowed Bradley to score and Monty Horn to advance to third. Mark Flores hit a ground ball to the right side for a fielder’s choice that allowed Monty to score. Score is now 10 -7, with one out. Jon Wyatt hit one to center to score Porter. James Civelli then reached on an error. Brett Jones hit a ground ball to the left side for a fielder’s choice to score Jon. Score is now 10 – 9, but there are two outs. Nicholas Topoleski comes to the plate and on a full count, hits a double to allow James to score from second base. Nick scored on a throwing error to give the Eagles the lead 11- 10. The inning continued with walks to Adam Roos and Austin Jett before the final out on a ground ball to first. Porter Richards came in to pitch in the bottom of the 6th inning. The Eagles knew they had to keep Mill Creek from scoring. The first batter reached on a walk and made it to second before the next batter reached on an error, moving the lead runner to third. The next batter reached on a fielder’s choice to home to get the lead runner out at the plate. A single by the next batter loaded the bases with one out. A ground ball to third was thrown to home to get the lead runner out at the plate. Still bases loaded, but now with two outs. Mill Creek was now at the top of their batting order and knew the game was on the line. Porter got ahead in the count with the batter swinging and missing twice, but the batter was patient. On a 3 -2 pitch, the batter swung and missed for the third out and EAGLES WIN! The Eagles are scheduled to play in one more tournament this season. Their record stands at 38 wins, 10 losses and 1 tie. Thanks to all the Eagles fans for your support this GGBL season. The 2009 10U Eagles are proud to carry on the Collins Hill winning tradition. Eagles win Six Straight GGBL Games
The Eagles continued their winning streak in GGBL baseball with wins this week over Peachtree Ridge, Parkview and North Gwinnett Black. With all of their regular season GGBL games in the books, the Eagles are 16 -4 in GGBL play. On Wednesday evening at Collins Hill Park the Eagles faced the Peachtree Ridge Lions . On the Mound: Nicholas Topoleski, Austin Jett and Monty Horn combined to face 24 batters. The Lions scored 5 runs on 5 hits. In the Field: Mark Flores (catcher) combined with Bradley Kallgren (shortstop) and James Civelli (3rd base) to throw out a runner trying to steal 3rd base. The Lions stranded 7 runners, 5 of them in scoring position. At the Plate: It was Brett Jones’ turn to join the home run club with a solo shot to center field. Brett Jones and Mark Flores each had two hits and two RBIs. Monty Horn also had two RBIs. The Eagles were patient at the plate, with eight reaching base due to walks. The Eagles jumped out in front, scoring three runs in the first inning. They added another one in the 2nd inning and then exploded for 8 runs in the 3rd inning. The final score was 12 – 5. Saturday afternoon the Eagles headed to Mountain Park to face the Parkview Panthers. On the Mound: Bradley Kallgren and James Civelli gave up no walks and no earned runs in a superbly pitched game. Only 19 Parkview batters came to the plate in the 5 inning game. In the Field: Four errors by the Eagles allowed Parkview runners to reach base, but two were thrown out trying to steal a base. At the Plate: Nicholas Topoleski joined the home run club with a shot over the fence to score three runs. Combined with his earlier hit, he had 5 RBIs for the night. Porter Richards continued his hot hitting streak by going 3 for 3 and Brett Jones came through with 2 hits. Jon Wyatt, Porter Richards and Bradley Kallgren each had a double and each scored 2 runs. Austin Jett was on base both times he came to the plate with a single and reached on an error. The final score was Eagles 15 – Panthers 2. In a sloppy, wet game at Collins Hill Park on Sunday afternoon the Eagles gave up 6 runs to North Gwinnett Black in the top half of the long first inning. To their credit they came back and scored 7 runs in the bottom half of the inning. On the Mound: Mark Flores, Nicholas Topoleski, Jon Wyatt and Monty Horn faced 28 batters and gave up 7 hits. They walked 6 and struck out 2. In the Field: Sloppy field conditions and the continual rain affected the play of both teams. Even so, the Eagles only made two fielding errors and stranded seven North Gwinnett runners on base. At the Plate: Who would have guessed that Ryan Jones would be the 6th Eagle to join the home run club? He hit one over the fence to start the 2nd inning and also hit a single in his first at bat. Porter Richards had two hits and 2 RBIs. Monty Horn hit one to the fence for a long single and 2 RBIs. Jon Wyatt hit a long ball to right field for a double and 2 RBIs. Bradley Kallgren, Mark Flores and Adam Roos also had hits. Final score Eagles 13, North Gwinnett Black 10. The Eagles finished their GGBL season with 6 consecutive wins. They will finish no lower than 2nd place, but will have to wait for the final standings when the remaining teams finish their league play. In the meantime, the team will enjoy a visit to the Atlanta Braves game at Turner Field and will play in the Battle at Black Rock over Memorial Day weekend. Go Eagles!

Eagles win all 3 games this weekend in GGBL play to go 13-4
The Eagles started a great GGBL baseball weekend with a Friday evening visit to the new Hebron baseball fields to face the Hebron Lions in their only scheduled GGBL match-up this season. The Eagles’ bats were popping, with doubles by Mark Flores, Nicholas Topoleski and two by Jon Wyatt. Each of them had two RBI’s on the night, as did Bradley Kallgren. Mark Flores, Jon Wyatt and Nicholas Topoleski also combined their pitching efforts to hold the Lions to 2 runs. Porter Richards (catcher) made a great throw to James Civelli (3rd base) to catch the lead runner trying to steal third in the 2nd inning. The final score of the game was 12 – 2. In a Saturday afternoon double-header at Collins Hill Park the Eagles first faced the Norcross Blue Devils. James Civelli was the starting pitcher and Bradley Kallgren finished the game. The score was tied 1 – 1 after the 1st inning and was still a close game after 4 innings, with the Eagles up 3 – 1. In the top of the 4th inning the Eagles allowed 3 runs - a solo home run and a 2 run homer to go down 3 – 4. With only a few minutes left to go, the Eagles knew they had to score in the 4th. James Civelli led off with a single to right field. Jon Wyatt came to the plate next and on a 0-2 count hit one out of the park to give the Eagles the lead. With a runner at third, Austin Jett reached first with a slow rolling grounder that scored a run. Adam Roos hit one just over 1st base to move Austin Jett to third. After Ryan Jones reached on a walk, Bradley Kallgren hit a single that scored two runs. The 10th batter of the inning was at the plate when time was called and the score was Eagles 9, Blue Devils 4. There were some outstanding defensive plays by the Eagles. In the first inning Mark Flores (catcher) combined with Nicholas Topoleski (1st base) to pick off the runner at 1st base. The same Wolves’ player was picked off 3rd base in the 4th inning with a great throw by Porter Richards (catcher) to Brett Jones (3rd base). In the 5th inning, Bradley Kallgren (pitcher) threw to Nicholas Topoleski (2nd base) to pick off a runner at 2nd base. Brett Jones made a great catch in left field for the final out of top of the 5th inning. In the second game of the double-header, the Eagles hosted the Buford Wolves. Again, the score was tied 1 – 1 after the 1st inning. The Wolves scored 2 in the 2nd inning, but the Eagles answered with 4 in the bottom of the inning. The Wolves added one more in the 3rd, but in the bottom of the 3rd the Eagles’ bats exploded for 6 runs. Jon Wyatt hit his 2nd home run of the day for 2 more RBIs. Brett Jones knocked in Nicholas Topoleski, who had reached on a walk. When Austin Jett came to the plate with one runner on base, he hit his 1st home run of the season with a long ball up in the trees for 2 RBIs. Ryan Jones was hit by a pitch, Porter Richards walked, Bradley Kallgren, James Civelli and Jon Wyatt singled and Monty Horn hit a double to score four more runs in the bottom of the 4th inning before the game was called with the score Eagles 15, Wolves 5. Porter Richards pitched for 3 innings and Monty Horn closed it out. In the 2nd inning, Jon Wyatt made a great throw from left field to Mark Flores behind the plate to nail a runner at home. Next up is a game at 8 PM on Wednesday, May 13th at Collins Hill Park against Peachtree Ridge.

Rain shortened Jr. Grizzlies tournament
A promising start for the Eagles in the Jr. Grizzlies tournament in Canton was quickly washed away when the rains came suddenly in the 2nd inning of game 2. After a delayed start due to field conditions that morning, the Eagles faced Team Wilson. Despite giving up some walks, the Eagles played nearly error free. Two runners were caught stealing and 7 runners were left stranded on the bases – five of them in scoring position. Offensively, the Eagles were able to string together some hits and won with a score of 4 – 2. In the rain shortened 2nd game against the Canton Riverdogs, the Eagles scored five runs in the top of the 2nd inning and were leading 5 - 0, before the torrential rains turned the playing field into a lake. With rains forecasted for the remainder of the weekend, the remainder of the tournament was cancelled.

Eagles go 2 out of 3 for the weekend in GGBL play
The Eagles started a very busy baseball weekend with a trip to Peachtree Ridge Park on Friday night to face the Peachtree Ridge Lions. The Eagles scored one run in each of the first three innings before breaking it open with 5 runs in the fourth inning. The Lions scored one run in the fifth inning, and the Eagles scored one more in the sixth for a win with a final score of 9 – 1. The Jones’ boys provided some offensive excitement. Ryan Jones had a triple in his second at bat and Brett Jones had 2 doubles with 2 RBI’s. On the mound, Bradley Kallgren gave up no hits in three innings. Nicholas Topoleski and Jon Wyatt pitched the last three innings, only allowing one unearned run. Overall, the three pitchers hit the strike zone almost 75% of the time. Austin Jett made an unassisted double play to end the game. He made a great catch at second base and then raced to the bag to double off the runner. There was also a great diving play at shortstop in the fifth inning to get the out at first base and keep a runner from scoring. The Eagles hosted a double header of GGBL play on Saturday. In the first game against the Duluth Wildcats, the Eagles jumped out to a 5 – 0 lead after the first two innings. The Eagles had 5 hits during the game, but had 6 batters reach on errors and 5 batters walked. Porter Richards hit his second home run of the season with a long ball over the center field fence. The Wildcats scored 2 runs in the 3rd inning and 2 runs in the 5th inning, but it wasn’t enough and the Eagles won 7 – 4. Once again the Eagles ended the game by turning a double play. This time it was James Civelli at 3rd base to Nicholas Topoleski for an out at 1st base and then on to Monty Horn at shortstop for the out at 2nd base. In the second game on Saturday, the Eagles faced Mill Creek Gold. After 4 innings, the score was tied 1- 1. Mill Creek scored 3 runs on three straight hits in the top of the 5th. The Eagles managed to get one more run in the bottom of the 6th, but came up short with a final score of 4 -2. Defensively, the Eagles made some outstanding plays and only recorded one error. Austin Jett (pitcher) and Ryan Jones (2nd base) picked off a runner at 2nd base for the 1st out of the 2nd inning. Just two batters later, Mark Flores (catcher) and Jon Wyatt (3rd base) caught the runner trying to steal 3rd for the final out of the inning. In the third inning, Mark Flores (catcher) and Bradley Kallgren (1st base) picked off the runner at 1st base for the final out of the inning. In the fourth inning with two runners on base, Bradley Kallgren (1st base) made a great play catch to get the batter out at 1st and then threw to Monty Horn (shortstop) to double off the lead runner at 2nd. The final out of the inning came when Porter Richards (catcher) threw to Jon Wyatt (3rd base) to catch the runner trying to steal 3rd base.

Eagles lose a heartbreaker to Parkview 7-6
In a close game, the Eagles took the lead to go up 6-2. However, fielding errors late in the game allowed 4 runs to score and cost the Eagles the game. The final score was 7-6. The Eagles are now 8-2 in GGBL play this season.

Eagles are 3 for 3 in GGBL Play This Weekend
The Eagles went to Bay Creek Park on Sunday afternoon and came away with another GGBL win. Porter Richards and Mark Flores each pitched two innings in the 10 – 2 win over the Grayson Rams. Offensively, the Eagles were held to just 5 singles in the game. However, base runners from 9 walks and 2 batters hit by pitches, combined with three reaching on errors, helped to offset the lack of power at the plate. Adam Roos leads the "bruise brothers team" for the season after being hit by a pitch for the 4th time. Porter Richards (pitcher) combined with Austin Jett (2nd base) to pick off the Rams’ lead off batter. In the 4th inning, another throw from Porter (catcher) to Monty Horn (short-stop) caught a Ram trying to steal second base. In the first inning Nicholas Topoleski (1st base) lost his balance while making a catch in foul territory but still came close to doubling off the runner at 1st. Next up in GGBL play – Eagles vs. Parkview Panthers at Collins Hill Park on Wednesday, April 22nd at 8 PM. Come watch the Eagles battle to stay in 1st place.
Saturday, April 18
Another GGBL win - Eagles 19, Buford Wolves 2
The Eagles scored in each inning to win 19-2 in a GGBL game against the Buford Wolves. The Eagles had 11 hits, walked 2 times and reached on errors 9 times. Unlike the game on Friday night, no Eagles struck out at the plate. For the first time this season, every Eagle crossed home plate to score at least once in the game. After a long fly ball to deep center in the 2nd inning that just missed going out, Porter Richards left no doubt with a home run to deep center in the 4th inning. Ryan Jones hit a triple to deep left field – his second triple in two games. The team on-base percentage of .647 was one of the highest this season. Austin Jett and Nicholas Topoleski each pitched two strong innings, with no batters walked. There were only seven Wolves’ base runners the entire game. Two scored, four were left on base and one was tagged out after getting caught in a pickle between third base and home. Heads up play by Nicholas Topoleski (pitcher), Porter Richards (catcher) and Monty Horn (3rd base) saved a run. The Eagles have a league leading record of 7 – 1 in GGBL play this season.
Saturday, April 18

Porter Richards made an excellent throw to Bradley Kallgren, who was covering 2nd base, to catch a runner trying to steal in the 3rd inning. Offensively, the Eagles only had 4 hits, but walked 5 times, had 4 batters hit by pitches and 6 batters reached on errors. Jon Wyatt had a key hit in the 3rd inning to allow two runners to score and Ryan Jones cleared the loaded bases in the 5th inning with a triple to right field. After reaching on an error in the 4th inning, Brett Jones provided one of the highlights of the night by stealing third and then home for the Eagles' only run in the 4th inning.

Eagles win GGBL game against North Gwinnett Bulldogs Red
The Eagles came out on top at the end of a tight defensive game against the North Gwinnett Bulldogs Red. The Eagles went into the top of the fifth inning with a lead of 1-0 but scored 3 runs in the bottom of the fifth for a win 4 - 0. The shutout was pitched by James Civelli, Porter Richards and Bradley Kallgren. There were four outstanding defensive plays by the Eagles. With the bases loaded, Bradley Kallgren made a diving catch at shortstop and doubled off the runner at 2nd base for a double play to end the 2nd inning. In the third inning, Mark Flores saved a run with a quick recovery of a wild pitch to tag the runner at home plate for the final out of the inning. James Civelli made a diving, rolling catch in center field for the 2nd out of the 5th inning. Monty Horn turned another double play at shortstop to end the game. After catching a hard hit line drive, he threw the ball to 1st to double off the runner. This was an exciting game with good defensive plays by both teams.

The Eagles squeaked out a win against a tough Mill Creek Gold team with a tag out at the plate to keep the tying run from scoring in the bottom of the last inning. Most of the game was played in cold / windy weather affecting the play of both teams. Our boys hit the ball well and had an on-base percentage of .577 for the game. However, they struggled in the field giving up 4 unearned runs. The Eagles were down 3 to 4 going into the 4th inning. Austin Jett came to the plate with two out and two runners on base. A long hit to right field scored two runs, giving the Eagles the lead to stay. The Eagles were up 6-4 going into the bottom of the 5th inning. Time had expired with runners at second and third. A single scored the runner from third, but the runner at second was tagged out at home on an excellent scrambling play by Mark Flores (catcher) to Monty Horn (pitcher) to end the game and give the Eagles the win 6-5.

Eagles Win Two GGBL Games This Weekend
The Eagles made it through the weekend without a rainout! Saturday the Eagles faced the Norcross Blue Devils for the first time this season...and it was tight game from start to finish. The Eagles got excellent pitching from Austin Jett and Monty Horn, but couldn’t get the bats going against the tough pitching and solid defense of the Blue Devils. Despite a lead-off single by Nicholas Topoleski in the 5th inning, the Eagles stranded him at third and lost the game 4 – 3. On Sunday, the Eagles hosted South Gwinnett Stampede for a double header. The Eagles gave up one run in the top of the 1st inning, but their bats came alive in the bottom of the inning. They scored five runs that inning, three more in the 3rd and four in the 4th. The final score of the first game was 12 – 3. The Eagles were the visitors in the second game and it proved to be a much tighter game. The offense continued with 6 Eagles crossing the plate in the first three innings. However, the gloves were not so sharp and South Gwinnett brought the score back to 6-5 after three innings. James Civelli came in to pitch for the Eagles and shut the door on the Stampede and the Eagles went on to win the game 12 – 5. On the weekend, the Eagles scored 27 runs on 22 hits and 14 walks; they also stole 43 bases. Porter Richards, Monty Horn, Ryan Jones, Bradley Kallgren and Mark Flores all had exceptional on base averages of over .700 for the weekend. The next GGBL games are scheduled for Saturday against North Gwinnett Bulldogs Red at Collins Hill Park – Field #3.

Eagles win their opening GGBL game vs. Mill Creek Hawks Red
The Eagles won their first GGBL game of the season beating the Mill Creek Hawks Red team by a score of 10 - 4. The Eagles were down 4 -1 going into the bottom of the 2nd inning, but brought 15 batters to the plate in the 2nd inning and scored nine runs. James Civelli pitched three solid innings and Monty Horn closed out the game. Porter Richards just missed a home run with a hit to the fence for a long single. Austin Jett and Bradley Kallgren each made great defensive plays to keep the Hawks scoreless in the last two innings.

South Gwinnett Shoot out Recap -- Eagles gain #1 Seed on Saturday, but come out flat on Sunday
The 10U Eagles came to play at the 6th Annual South Gwinnett Shootout on Saturday March 7th. They jumped ahead in the 1st inning of the 1st game and didn’t look back. The Eagles scored a total of 20 runs in the two games against the Clermont A’s and the West Georgia Bandits. The team went on a hitting spree with 18 hits, including 7 doubles and a triple. Defensively, the Eagles also were strong, keeping the A’s to 4 runs and shutting out the Bandits. There were few errors and many spectacular defensive plays. Austin Jett pitched a complete game with only 46 pitches in the shutout against the Bandits to give the Eagles the #1 seed after pool play. Unfortunately, the Eagles weren’t nearly as sharp in the bracket game against Parkview on Sunday. The Eagles took a 4-1 lead in the 3rd inning, but fell behind when Parkview rallied for 5 runs in the 4th inning. Defensive and mental errors, combined with weak performance at the plate meant the Eagles went home early. The Eagles stranded 6 runners, 5 of them in scoring position. The Eagles would like to congratulate Parkview on their successful run on Sunday to claim the tournament Championship. The Eagles’ GGBL season opening game is scheduled for Sunday, March 15th at 2 PM against the Grayson Rams.

Eagles win the Monroe Battle of the Bats at Criswell Park
Despite the chilly weather, the Eagles were hot at the Monroe Battle of the Bats on February 21st and 22nd. The Eagles went 4-0, outscoring their opponents 41 -12 to win the tournament championship. Ryan Jones was hit by a pitch to start the 1st game and went on to steal his way around the bases. He was on base all three times, had 8 stolen bases and scored three times. Adam Roos came through in the clutch with a 2 RBI single with 2 out in the bottom of the 4th inning of the first game to break a 4 – 4 tie and put the Eagles ahead to stay. The team batting average for the tournament was .407, with James Civelli leading the way with 6 hits in the 4 games. Mark Flores reached base 9 times in 11 at-bats for an on-base percentage of .818! Jon Wyatt, Brett Jones and Porter Richards flexed their muscle at the plate with a combined 11 hits, many deep into the outfield. Wyatt had two off the fence in the championship game. Pitchers Bradley Kallgren, James Civelli, Monty Horn and Nicholas Topoleski faced a combined 56 batters. They struck out 19 and only gave up 8 hits, 2 walks and 3 runs. Everyone on the team contributed to a great defense, making 90% of the plays without an error. Austin Jett made a great play for the 3rd out in the 3rd inning of the 1st game to strand the go-ahead runner at 2nd base. He later made a great catch in left for the 1st out of the final inning of the championship game. Thanks to the parents and the fans for their support. It was a great way to start the season and get ready for some GGBL baseball. http://www.usssa.com/sports/tournament3.asp?TournamentID=520320

Eagles lose 9-4 to the Georgia Grip in their first practice game of the season
The Eagles and the Georgia Grip got a chance to try several pitchers and players in different positions on Saturday in a tune-up game to start the season. The Eagles were a little rusty in their first game but faired fairly well against the major classification Georgia Grip team. The game was close until a 3-run homer by Antonio Johnson. After that the Grip continued to build on their lead.

10U Fall Eagles win the 6th Annual Boo Ball Tournament
The Collins Hill Eagles 10u travel baseball team was the Champion in the 6th Annual South Gwinnett Boo Ball held October 25 – 26, 2008 at E. R. Snell Park in Snellville. After a win and a loss in the pool play games on Saturday, the Eagles were seeded fourth going into bracket play. The Eagles defeated the East Marietta Eliminators 9 -3 to advance to the 2nd round, where they shut out the #1 seed Parkview Panthers 7 – 0.
In the Championship game, the Eagles faced the Duluth Wildcats. After a slow start, and behind 0 – 4, the Eagles’ bats came alive with two out in the 2nd inning. Before the end of the inning, 19 Eagles had come to the plate and 15 had scored. The Eagles went on to win 17-5 to claim the championship.
Eagles’ pitchers Cade Heil, James Civelli and Bradley Kallgren each pitched a complete game in bracket play on Sunday. They allowed a total of 8 runs on 15 hits, struck out 10 and only walked four batters in the three games. They threw a combined 211 pitches, 63% of them for strikes. The Eagles had a successful fall season with a record of 19-8-2, winning the championship in 3 of the 4 tournaments they entered.
The members of the team are Tristan Alvarado, Blake Casto, James Civelli, Mark Flores, Cade Heil, Austin Jett, Bradley Kallgren, Tomas Nadal, Oscar Serrato, Nicholas Topoleski and Jon Wyatt. They are managed by Ted Kallgren and coached by Tony Flores, Jason Heil and Tom Topoleski.

Eagles struggle in Pool Play at 6th Annual Boo Ball Tournament
The Eagles pitchers struggled to throw strikes in game #1 against the Georgia Grays, giving up 12 walks. Coupled with the defensive mistakes, the Grays gave the Eagles their first loss in 14 games. In game #2 vs. the East Marietta Eliminators, the Eagles looked more like themselves by going up 7-0 in the top of the first. The Eagles went up 10-1 before finally winning 12-5. The Eagles got the #4 seed and will play the East Marietta Eliminators again at 10AM Sunday. If we win, we will play the #1 seed Parkview at 2PM.

A Tie and A Win...
With a tie and win in the double header against the Rockdale Rhinos, the Eagles record for the fall season now stands at 15-7-2. The Eagles have not lost a game since September 7th.
In the first game, Jon scored the game tying run by stealing home in the Eagles final at bat. The defensive play of the day came near the end of the second game when Tristan threw a strike from the left field fence to Austin at second base to put the tag on a Rhino batter trying to stretch a long hit into a double. Blake had a perfect day at the plate and scored 4 of the 12 Eagles runs.
Eagles pitchers recorded 11 K's in the two short games, and limited a strong hitting Rockdale team to a .179 batting average on the day.
The Eagles players and fans certainly appreciated the Rhino’s hospitality in hosting the pizza party between the games.
The Eagles are looking forward to a great tournament this weekend at E.R. Snell Park in Snellville, where they will play their final games of the fall season.
Sunday, October 12
Eagles go 2-0 for the weekend and have now won 12 games straight!
The Eagles defeated a strong Norcross Blue Devils team 8-5 and the tough pitching Parkview Panthers 2-1. The Eagles good hitting allowed them to squeak out the win in the first game and the Eagles excellent pitching and fielding allowed them to squeak out the win in the second game. So the Eagles scored 8 runs when they needed to and only allowed 1 run when they needed to - What more can you ask for? Somehow this team is finding ways to win every game and has now won 12 games in a row.
The Fall team now only has 2 more weekends to go. A possible tournament or double header next weekend and the season ending Norcross tournament the following weekend.

Eagles win 2 games today to continue their win streak now at 10 games in a row
The Eagles won their first game Saturday against the Duluth WildCats. They came from behind to win 9-8 in a well fought game. Blake had a great game at the plate with a double and a single and Tomas also hit a double. The Eagles tied it up 6-6 in the fourth inning and went on to score 3 more to make it 9-6 going into the last inning. Bradley also did an excellent job pitching in relief in the top of the fifth to strike-out the HR hitting Perez for the last out of the game.
The Eagles second game against Mill Creek wasn't played as pretty and was filled with errors on both sides. Tomas had another double to score the tying run and the winning run scored on a passed ball. The Eagles managed to come from behind to win 7-6.
Coach Tony is now undefeated at 2-0 while substituting for Coach Ted while he was sick and the Eagles win streak is now at 10 games.
Sunday, September 28
Eagles beat North Gwinnett and win their 8th game in a row!
The Eagles played without big barrel bats and without leadoffs. But it didn't seem to bother the Eagles too much as they lead the entire game. The Eagles also got some great pitching and a strong defensive effort in logging their second shut out of the fall.
Sunday, September 21
Eagles defeat Parkview Panthers and East Cobb LongHorns to extend win streak to 7 games!
In a Sunday double-header, the Eagles first faced the Parkview Panthers and even though our pitching was a little off, we had a very good fielding game that included two double plays. The Eagles prevailed by scoring 4 runs in the top of the 6th inning. Cade finished the game with some great pitching and we held the Panthers scoreless in the bottom of the inning to win 7-5.
The second game was a very slow game with a lot of timeouts. Defensively, we turned another double play in the 1st inning. The LongHorns took the lead 9-1 after three innings and time was about to expire. But then the Eagles' bats exploded and LongHorns' pitching could not contain us. The Eagles went on 9 run tear to win in the bottom of the third with Oscar getting the game winning hit to score the go ahead run. The game was called at 10-9. This was a good confidence builder because this is the first time we have played an East Cobb team.

Eagles go 4-0 at Dobbs Creek to win the September Slugfest Tournament
The Eagles looked fantastic Saturday in Pool Play with very few mistakes. The Eagles pulled out a win in the final inning with some clutch hitting by Jon and Blake to beat the Titans 8-7 in the first game. In the second game against the Duluth WildCats we watched Perez of the WildCats hammer a two-run homerun well over the 200 foot plus fence into the trees which scared us a little. But the Eagles fought back and held onto to win 10-4 thanks to some great hitting, pitching, and fantastic plays by Mark our catcher throwing out three runners on the bases.
Sunday the Eagles had to face the Duluth WildCats again in bracket play. The Eagles barely pulled it out winning 5-3 with James outdueling a strong group of WildCat pitchers. Bradley, who had a fantastic defensive tournament, made an incredible diving catch of a line drive to save some runs.
In the championship the Eagles had to face the Rockdale Rhinos. This was the 3rd matchup this season against the Rhinos and all of them have been tough. The Eagles took a 4-0 lead and the Rhinos fought back to 5-4. Then the Eagles went up 7-5 and the Rhinos fell short to overtake us but scored one run to make it 7-6. Finally, after Cade's clutch 2-run single the Eagles surged to a 9-6 lead and shutdown the Rhinos with Oscar pitching to closeout and win the game.
It was a very satisfying tournament as all the boys contributed to the team's success via some great defense, strong pitching or timely hitting.

Eagles struggle at the Forsyth Fall Slugfest at Dobbs Creek
After leading in both our pool games on Saturday the Eagles failed to win and we lost our first bracket game on Sunday to end our run at the tournament. It was a tough weekend of baseball...however, every game was close. The Eagles fought until the last out of the tournament and showed no signs of quitting. After having only one hit in the first game of the tournament against Dobb's Creek, we had 16 hits in the next two. We had our ups and downs on defense this weekend, but finished the last game with some very nice defensive plays including a few memorable ones by Cade Heil.

Eagles Win/Tie in the Monroe's Summer Sizzler 10U Championship Game
After going 1-1 in Pool Play on Saturday, the Eagles made it to the championship game in bracket play. On Saturday the Eagles lost to the Rockdale Rhinos 9-6 and beat the Georgia Mudcats 16-0. Then on Sunday the Eagles managed to squeak out a win against the "running" Rockdale Rhinos 9-8 after going up 6-0 in the first. Then the Eagles had to face the Norcross Blue Devils for the championship game. The game was started late due to rain delays and went on for three and a half hours with the Eagles and Blue Devils tied at the end of the sixth inning. After the sixth inning the tie breaker rule went into effect and a runner was put on 2B with no outs. In the top of the seventh, the Blue Devils took the lead 8-7, but the Eagles tied it back up 8-8 in the bottom of the seventh. Finally the umpires had had enough with the wet soaked muddy field and the seemly endless game was called before entering an 8th inning with the score tied 8-8.

Eagles Fall to the Norcross Blue Devils
The Eagles had a tough time today in their first practice game of the Fall 10U season facing a seasoned Norcross team with eight returning members from the Spring 9U team. The Eagles were down most of the game until our offense exploded in the 5th to leap ahead 9-5. The Blue Devils then went on a hitting rampage themselves and the Eagles fielding falled to hold the Blue Devils letting them score 10 runs in the 5th and 6th to lose 15-9. It wasn't that bad of an outting for the Eagles since we have six new members on the team and have only had a few practices and considering the Norcross team only lost three players from the Spring team.
Next weekend we have the Monroe Summer Sizzler tournament

The Eagles win their 3rd tournament at the Anderson, S.C. State Warm Up
The Eagles won their 3rd tournament in the Anderson, SC State Warm Up this weekend for their season ending tournament. The Eagles were short-handed without our fireballer Jacob and our speedster Ryan so we took along Austin Jett. Austin had several hits and when he didn't make it safely on base he usually advanced the runners anyway. Austin also helped us at second base and outfield.
The tournament results:
Eagles 11 - Carolina Cannons 1
Eagles 10 - Low Country Bulldogs 2
Eagles 8 - Carolina Diamond Dawgs 7
Eagles 5 - Carolina Diamond Dawgs 4
Of the six tournaments the Eagles played this season counting the GGBL tournament they either won or were one of the final teams except for the Super NIT we played.

The Eagles make the Mill Creek Hawks play two games before they win the GGBL championship
In our must win championship Game #1 The Eagles spanked the Mill Creek Hawks 23-2. We surprised Mill Creek with our hitting as well as ourselves and we had hoped to hit the same way in the second game. But we also had great pitching and excellent defense to allow Mill Creek only 2 runs,
In Game #2, the Mill Creek Hawks took an early 2-0 lead, but the Eagles fought back to a 5-3 lead and maintained it until the bottom of the 6th inning. Mill Creek then capitalized on some walks with good hitting to tie the game 5-5 and then they scored the winning run on wild pitch/pass ball to win 6-5.
If we could have just got 3 outs in the bottom of the 6th! But the Eagles played very well and I think the Mill Creek Hawks will remember the Collins Hill Eagles for how we hit them in the first game and how well we played defense in both games.

Eagles win Game#4 - GGBL Tournament Championship Saturday at 11AM vs. Mill Creek at Mountain Park
Both the Collins Hill Eagles and Mill Creek Hawks won their games Thursday night to setup a 9U GGBL championship between the #1 and #2 seeds. The Mill Creek Hawks need to win only one game however since they have already defeated us once while we need to win back to back games on Saturday.
The Eagles defeated Norcross thursday in a game in which we scored 5 runs in the first and just 3 runs in the later innings for 8 runs total. The Eagles held Norcross the entire game only allowing one run. Bradley pitched excellent and James did too after struggling a little when he started. The hitting was on with nearly everyone making contact and the only problem being popup/fly ball hits.
The Mill Creek vs. Parkview game was a little more exciting. Parkview and Mill Creek played superb defense. Parkview's center fielder made several spectacular catches and Mill Creeks second baseman Sean Akins played like a shortstop on the right side. The game was close at 3-2 with Mill Creek leading until Tyler Calvert hit a 3-run homerun that either bounced off the scoreboard or the top of the fence. Mill Creek won the game 10-3 in the top of the 6th inning.

Eagles lose Game#3 - GGBL Tournament Game #4 Thursday at 6:15PM vs. Norcross at Mountain Park
Eagles lose 7-2 in a close game. We loaded the bases in our first at bat but could not score. Then the Hawks got on the board with 3 runs, but we came back to score 2 making it 3-2. That was all the Eagles would score thanks to great defense by Mill Creek. Several of our Eagles had fly balls down the right field line that might have been hits against most other teams. It was a tough loss to a good team.
Next Up Norcross again Thursday night at 6:15 PM - wear white pants and green shirts.
Tuesday, June 3
Eagles win Game#2 - GGBL Tournament Game #3 Tuesday at 7PM vs. Mill Creek at Mountain Park
Eagles win against Norcross 10-7. The Eagles kept hitting until time was called.
Next Up The Mighty Mill Creek Hawks in the battle of the only two undefeated teams on Tuesday at 7PM in Game #3 - We will wear our white shirts and grey pants.
Norcross and Parkview advanced last night in two very close games.
Sunday, June 1
Eagles win Game#1 - GGBL Tournament Game #2 Today at 7PM vs. Norcross at Mountain Park
WOW !!! - What a way to win! Congratulations to Mark for the game winning walk off the field hit. The Eagles were down 6-0 and in what look like was going to be another dead bat day. Then after Jon walked and stole his away around to 3rd and got the first score for the Eagles the flood gates opened. Everyone started hitting and scoring and the game was tied at 6-6. Then the PTR Lions scored to take the lead 7-6. With time running out and runners on 2nd and 3rd Mark came up to bat and hit a line drive into left field to score 2 runs to win the game 8-7.
Game #2 today vs. Norcross at 7PM - wear green shirt and white pants.

Eagles lose in the semi-finals in the Battle at BlackRock at Coal Mtn. Park
The Eagles came close to winning their 3rd tournament, but lost in the semi's to a hard hitting Ocee Stars team 8-4. The Eagles were the only undefeated team in pool play and earned the #1 seed. The Eagles went on to defeat the Buford Wolves in bracket play 5-1 and then lost in the next bracket game to Ocee. The Eagles used 8 pitchers trying to rest arms as much as possible. But in the end our bats went cold and we were only able to get 4 runs on the board in the last game.
Thursday, May 22
Eagles defeat Mill Creek 9-6 for the final game of the regular GGBL season to go 13-7 in GGBL
The Eagles were down early 0-3 and came back 4-3. Then after the Eagles got 6 runs Mill Creek came back and tied it up 6-6, but the Eagles came back to win 9-6 in their last at bat. It was a game that meant more to us than Mill Creek since they were already the number one seed going into the GGBL tournament and they had nothing to lose. Mill Creek wisely decided to rest some of their big guns, but it was still a win to our Eagles and we were the only team to take 2 out of 3 from the Mighty Mill Creek Hawks this season in GGBL.
Sunday, May 18
Eagles shutout Buford twice in a doubleheader 9-0 and 10-0 to go 12-7 and clinch 2nd place in GGBL
The Eagles always have seemed to play Buford well this season. The Eagles looked good pitching, fielding, and hitting shutting out Buford in both games. Brett who had been in a slump until last night had a breakout today hitting two 3 run homeruns today!!!
Next up - Mill Creek on Wednesday night for the final regular season game.

Eagles struggle at Super NIT
The Eagles had a rough weekend at a mostly rained out Super NIT tournament. We got a look Friday night at the Kennesaw Express...one we would like to forget. But since all the other games were called Friday and Saturday due to rain this game didn't count. The tournament became a double elimination shootout on Sunday and we faced the Memphis Tigers and lost 5-1. Then we faced the eventual tournament winners the Ringgold Bandits losing 9-4 in the loser bracket. The Ringgold Bandits went into the loser bracket after going into a double overtime against the Kennesaw Express and losing 2-1. The Bandits went on to win the tournament beating a PTB Elite team not once but twice. The PTB Elite until that point had not been scored on in the tournament . Mill Creek may get a chance to see the Bandits at the April 11th-13th Triple Crown Back to School Backyard Brawl at East Cobb because they both have commited to play.

Eagles go 2-0 in GGBL for the weekend for a 4-0 overall GGBL record
On Friday night, the Eagles beat a confident, hard hitting, Peachtree Ridge Lions team 12-10. They won the game in come from behind fashion on some clutch hitting in the 4th and 5th innings. On Saturday the Eagles traveled to Buford and got on the scoreboard early, got some great pitching, and out paced the Buford Wolves 12-2. Austin hit the Eagles first home run of the season that sailed over the left field fence!
The Eagles have 3 GGBL games next weekend with a double header on Saturday against the Dacula Falcons and the Parkview Panthers and the Norcross Blue Devils on Sunday. Lets keep the win streak alive - Go Eagles!

Eagles Win the South Gwinnett Shootout
Whew, what a long day for the Eagles! And what a change in the weather it was. The Eagles went 3-0 today and were the only undefeated team. We started off cold in the very cold morning at Rhodes Jordan Park with ToastiToes and HotHands beating a tough Mountain Park Panthers team 10-5. Then we continued at Rhodes Jordan Park against the Loganville Green Jackets who kept us to 1-0 until the 6th when we scored 6 runs and won 7-0. Then for the late afternoon game we had to travel to E.R. Snell to play team Oconee and by that time we were hot and back in t-shirts and shutout team Oconee 8-0 to win the tournament. The amazing part was the depth of our team showed because all 11 Eagles contributed. We used 8 different pitchers and could have even used more if needed. We hit the ball deep into the outfield and even had several excellent bunts in which everyone was safe. Our defense, even though we made a few errors, looked stronger than our opponents. In the weeks ahead we should continue to get even better.

The Collins Hill Eagles win a squeaker over the Mill Creek Hawks 5-4
What a way to start off the GGBL season!!! The Collins Hill Eagles and Mill Creek Hawks were neck and neck for the entire game. The Eagles got on the board first with a 1-0 lead. Then the Hawks came back to lead the game 3-1, but the Eagles prevailed winning 5-4 in the end.
There were so many great plays it is hard to list and remember them all, but here are a few:
- Porter's catch and tag at home plate from a ball thrown in from the outfield to keep the lead at 5-4.
- James's foul ball catch at 3rd base.
- Brett's line-drive fly ball catch in left field.
- We had strong pitching by James, Austin, Monty, and especially Jacob to close out the game.
- We had good hitting and somehow we managed to score off the very hard throwing Mill Creek pitchers.
We are going to enjoy watching this young defense improve throughout the season!
