Granite hands Hilltop first loss of the season and capture Grossmont Tourney Title

In the Championship game of the Grossmont tournament Granite Hills sat facing the undefeated Hilltop Lancers.

This game featured everything that a championship game should have, strong pitching, great defense and timely hitting.

Hilltop looked to get things going early when the leadoff batter started the game with a basehit but then granite turned a big double play when the second batter bunted and but when the runner tried to take third Brianna threw a strike to Vanessa convering the bag for a BIG double play.

The Eagles got on the board first in the bottom of the second scoring two runs, Cassidy led off the inning reaching on an error  and then scored on a rbi single by Sarah  and then Sarah came home on a rbi bloop single by Brianna.

Hilltop fought back in the top of the third plating a run on hit batter and double just past the outstretched arm of Taylor but they would leave her stranded at third.

Hilltop looked to tie or take the lead in the top of the sixth as the first two batters reached base and were sitting at second and third with nobody out. Miranda took a hard hit ground ball and fired and strike to first after checking the runner and then Laurisa took matters into her own hand by striking out the next two batters.

Laurisa strikes out 14 as the Eagles go to 4 - 0 on the season but miss out on Tournament title

The Eagles gave up an early run in the first on a hit batter, two passed balls and a lazy fly ball that dropped for a hit but after that Mira Mesa only saw two runners get into scoring position again as Laurisa kept them in check, recording 14 strikeouts.

Even with Laurisa's dominating performance, the lady Eagles looked like they might come out on the losing end as the Mira Mesa pitcher and defense kept the Eagles off the bases. The Eagles only had one base runner through the first 4 innings but were finally able to break through in the fifth on back-to-back hits by Savannah and Miranda, both of which would score on passed balls.

The Marauders would make a push to tie the game in the 6th with a two out double that was followed by a single but Makena got the ball in too quickly to allow the runner from second to score and the next batter struck out.

For the second year in a row the Lady Eagles finished 4 - 0 in pool play for the Cathedral Catholic tournament only to miss out on the Championship game due to a runs allowed rule.

Strong Pitching and defense was again the order of the day for the Lady Eagles as Miranda and Laurisa combined to only give up 4 hits to a very good Henry team.

Brianna - 2/4 with and rbi

Laurissa dominated the game striking out 8 in the 5 inning contest that saw the Eagles produce 10 runs aided by a Home Run by Laurissa and a Monster Home run by Taylor Miller.
