It Took Two Days, but Lions Defeat Conseil!

The Lions started their game with Conseil on Thursday, but finished it up on Sunday!  Mother Nature interrupted the Lions game with Conseil on Thursday, which, as it turns out, was a good thing!  Shawn was on the hill once again for the Lions, but the Lions forgot to pack their gloves with them.  The Orioles scored 2 runs on all errors from the Lions.  Shawn recorded all 6 outs in the first two innings...4 by K and 2 grounded back to him.  Before the rain hit, the Lions did push a run across the board.  Shawn led off with a single and made his way around to 3rd and scored on a passed ball.  The game was then called with a 2-1 score in the bottom of the 2nd...

 3 Days Later...

The Lions picked up where they left off with the Reds offensively against the O's, but they still decided not to bring their gloves to the game.  After back to back errors to start the top of the 3rd, the O's quickly pushed across 2 more runs to give themselves a 4-1 lead.  But, luckily, the Lions brought their bats with them.  With two outs in the bottom of the 3rd, the Lions scored 5 runs.  Eric lead off with a walk and advanced to 2nd on Ronnie's single.  Eric then scored on Shawn's single  and then Ronnie scored on an error by Conseil's pitcher.  Shawn and Evan scored on a single from Josh and an error from the Oriole's 2nd baseman. Josh then later scored on another Orioles error.  After all was said and done, the Lions had a 6-4 lead.  The Orioles answered right back on another Lions error to cut the lead to 6-5.  In the bottom of the 5th, the Lions bats got cranking once again.  Ronnie led off the inning with a bomb double to centerfield.  Evan then singled to score Ronnie.  With two outs, Dylan ripped the ball to rightfield to score Evan and eventually himself after Conseil threw the ball around.  This gave the Lions a 9-5 lead, which was safe enough for Josh to to shut them down (after a great diving catch from Evan in Centerfield) and give the Lions their 2nd straight win.  The Lions hope to make it 3 in a row as they play EFR for the 2nd time this season on Tuesday night!

Lions Rebound with big win vs. Cook's Roofing

After a long practice on Friday night where a lot of flaws were ironed out and a heart to heart discussion with the team, the Lions took the field an angry team out to prove a point against the 2-0 Reds.  The Lions were the visitors on this night and struck early and often.  In the first, Evan hit a single and advanced on a hit batter and a walk.  Matt then delivered a double to score two runs and Jeremy scored on a passed ball to get a quick 3-0 lead. John took the hill as a 10 year old and did a fantastic job.  He had a quick first inning and allowed his team to get back to work.  He led off the 2nd inning with a single.  George walked to get runners at 1st and 2nd.  With two outs, Shawn delivered a single to score John and increase the Lions lead to 4-0.  John came right back in the 2nd and after an error and a walk, he battled through and got out of the inning with no damage.  The Lions, once again, struck with their bats in the top of the 3rd.  With two outs, Jeremy took a pitch to the head and took his base.  Matt then roped a ball to centerfield in which their fielder misjudged the ball and allowed Jeremy to advance to 3rd and Matt to 2nd.  Kyle then delivered a double to score two runs and give the Lions a 6-0 lead.  John then took the hill for his final inning and continued to pound the strike zone.  Three runs did come across the board on a throwing error, but the Lions were determined to bounce right back and score more runs.  George started the inning by reaching on an error.  Eric walked to give the Lions 1st and 2nd with no outs.  Shawn then grounded into a fielder's choice to give the Reds 2 outs.  Evan then reached on an error to score two runs to set up the Lions first homerun of the season off the bat of Josh to give the Lions a 10-3 lead.  Jeremy then took the hill and shut down the Reds for 3 innings.  He struck out 3 batters, allowed 0 walks and 1 hit.  A big catch in rightfield was made by Ronnie to solidify what was a much better Lions defensive effort.  The Lions hope that this is the jump start game that they have been looking for...

Lions Defense Bites Them in the End

After squeaking by Game 1 with a struggling defensive effort, the Lions could not hide behind their bats again against a very solid VFW squad!  Jeremy took the hill for the Lions and was dominant for 2 solid innings.  He struck out 3 batters in two innings and kept VFW off the board.  Evan then took the hill in the 3rd and kept up what Jeremy had started.  He had a solid first inning and allowed the Lions to take the lead in the bottom of the 3rd.  John vowed he'd be the first person to hit the outfield in this game and he delivered with a lead off single to left field.  George laid down a perfect bunt to advance John to 2nd.  A groundball back to the pitcher advanced John to 3rd and he eventually scored on a single from Shawn.  VFW tied it up in the 4th on a bomb over the left field fence by their power hitter.  The Lions answered right back in the bottom half of the inning.  Josh led off with a walk and advanced on a grounder to 2nd.  An error by the 3rd baseman allowed Josh to advance to 3rd.  With runners on 2nd and 3rd, Matt ripped a double to score two runs and increase the Lions lead to 3-1. That would be all the runs the Lions would score as VFW mounted a 2 out comeback in the bottom of the 6th to score 4 runs and take a 5-3 lead, which was good enough for the win.  A tough loss for the Lions, but just another reminder of how important defense is in winning games!

Last Inning Heroics Win Game 1

The Bellingham Lions were pumped up and excited to take on the Bellingham Police in their Opening Day night game, but Mother Nature had other plans which postponed their first game.  After having to wait an extra 24 hours to get this season underway, the Bellingham Lions took the field against EFR.  Shawn took the hill in the first inning and did a great job getting a quick 1-2-3 inning.  The Lions bats took charge in the bottom half of the inning.  Shawn started the inning with a single.  With two outs, Dylan roped a double to score Shawn and give the Lions a 1-0 lead.  They would add another after a costly error at first base allowed Dylan to score.  After a few errors in the next two innings, the Lions were down 3-2.  The Lions tied the game up once again in the bottom of the 3rd.  Eric started the inning with a walk and advanced on a passed ball.  With two outs, Evan delivered a beautiful double to score Eric.  Josh then took the hill and was just as dominant as Shawn was.  He had two shut down innings with 4 K's to get started.  The Lions took the lead in the bottom of the 5th when John reached on an error.  He advanced all the way around on passed balls.  The Lions defense, unfortunately, could not hold the lead and EFR tied the game up.  It would take a last inning rally to pull this out and that's exactly what happened. Shawn led off with a walk and advanced on a single by Evan.  With runners on 2nd and 3rd, Josh stepped up to the plate and delivered a clean single to left center to score Shawn and win the game!  It wasn't the cleanest game, but a win is a win!

Why it's important to see the POSITIVE in EVERY situation

Check out the following clip as an example why we can find the positive in EVERY situation.  Together, this year, we'll work hard at seeing that the glass is half full...not half empty!  Enjoy :-)
