Groveport Fighting Fish Swim Team: Welcome

Welcome to Summer Swim Team 2013........

Thank you for visiting our team website.  The Groveport Fighting Fish Team is excited about the upcoming summer season and we are pleased to announce that we have our full coaching staff in place and ready to go!  We are in the process of updating all the Summer 2013 information, so please continue to check back each week.  We would like to provide the following key information for parents:

REGISTRATION

If you are interested in registering for the Groveport Swim Team, please feel free to download the registration form from this website (under Team Downloads Tab) and return it to the front desk of the Groveport Recreation Center.  We have concluded both our registration dates at the Recreation Center, but will continue to take registrations through the first of June.  If you have any questions about registration, please feel free to contact Deanna Somers at 614-834-8675.

PRE-SEASON IMFORMATION ON FEES, PRACTICE AND MEET SCHEDULE

We have added some information from our team handbook to the bottom of this web page and under the "Team News" tab that will be helpful in reviewing fees, practice and meet schedules for 2013.

As we get closer to the start of the season, we will continue to update our team calendar and other critical tabs for the season.

TEAM SWIM SUITS

Once again this year we are using Aquatic Adventures Outfitters in Hilliard for our Team Suits.  You are more than welcome to visit the shops website at http://shop.aaoswim.com or you can visit the showroom directly.  The store is conveniently located at the exit of 270 North and Cemetary Road in Hilliard.  If you visit the website, please make sure that you select the "TEAMS" tab on the left hand column, select the summer 2013 tab and then select the Groveport Swim Team.  This will take you to the order site so you can see the team suits and place an order.  Please note that you will need to use the code SUNFISH in order to get the team discount when placing an order.

Who are the Fighting Fish?

The Groveport Fighting Fish are a competitive summer swim team, which consists of swimmers from the ages of 5 to 18 years of age.  The team competes in six regular season swim meets and two league-sponsored invitational meets in the months of June and July including a season ending Championships.  The Fighting Fish are members of the Tri-County Aquatic League, which consists of eleven other swim teams from the Bexley, Newark, Lancaster, Pickerington, Canal Winchester, Pataskala and Southeastern Coulumbus areas.  The league has been developed and maintained through a commitment of teamwork and sportsmanship since the early 1970's.  Each year, over 1000 swimmers compete across the league.

The Fighting Fish pride themselves on a history of great swimmers, outstanding facilities, and an overall dedication to self-improvement.  The program provides a structured practice schedule, a dedicated parents organization, and a successful coaching staff.

2013 Registration, Practice and Schedule Information

We have downloaded some key 2013 swim season information below from our team handbook to assist with pre-season questions regarding registration, practice and schedule.

FEES AND MEMBERSHIPS

The Groveport Fighting Fish Swim Team Parents Organization is dedicated to providing a quality competitive swim team opportunity to as many youths as they can reach.  It is our goal to operate this swim team in such a manner that the youth will learn the fundamentals of competitive swimming, fair play, good sportsmanship, and above all, HAVING FUN.  We want the team to become an extended family where the members are at ease with one another, the families interact, and all involved can look forward to a safe and successful season.

We acknowledge that an important feature in providing the swim team membership opportunity to the greatest number of youths is to keep the cost to the parent’s at a minimum.  It is not this team’s philosophy to collect membership fees and conduct fundraisers in order to simply generate excess funds.  The fee covers pool time, insurance, coaches’ salaries, prizes for the incentive program, end of season awards, league fees, and championship fees and other items needed to run the swim team.

Fundraisers are a very important part of keeping our registration below the league average of almost $100. This year we will simply be asking swimmers and our families to participate in one fundraiser that will help to offset many of our expenses that are not covered though membership fees or outside donations.  Each family will be asked to sell a minimum of 50 tickets and after a set period of time the drawing for the grand prize will occur.  This fundraiser will occur at the start of the season, at which time all pertinent information will be passed out.  This year $50 and tickets MUST be turned in by the end of the first home swim meet on June 22  in order for your athlete to participate in meets for the remainder of the season.   Remember there is a 3 meet minimum in order to swim at Champs, so if you swim the first 2 meets of the season and no other meets, your swimmer will not be able to perform at Champs.

You do not need to be a current member of the Groveport Aquatic Center or Groveport Recreation Center in order to participate on the Groveport Fighting Fish Swim Team.  A program fee of $40.00 for a resident and $50.00 for non-resident must be paid by each swimmer if you are NOT a member of the Groveport Aquatic Center or Groveport Recreation Center.  This is a huge benefit for our swimmers as many other teams in the league require the swimmer to join the home pool or recreation center.

Team swimwear.  Team swimsuit and team caps are recommended and available for purchase, but are not required. This is to help keep costs down for the family and we will work towards team unity through the t-shirts provided with registration by May 17. Additionally, we have chosen a new swimsuit this year that is less expensive to purchase. You may order your swimsuit and accessories with the order form during registration or by visiting shop.aaoswim.com.

Registration must be completed and all registration fees paid in order to participate in any swim team activities.

Groveport Fighting Fish Registration fees are one of the lowest in the league:

$80 for first swimmer

$55 for each additional swimmer in the family

Includes championship entry fee.

Help us keep our registration fees low with Sponsors

We are looking for sponsors to help fund our team expenses and create a better experience for the swimmers. If you know a business who may be interesting in working with our team, please contact Deanna Somers at gffparent@gmail.com

Donations welcome!

We have been very lucky in the past with kind parents or grandparents who have donated food, materials or their time to the team. We can make do with just about anything. If you can help with the following, please let a member of the Parent Organization know.

·   Food or Beverages for the concession, hospitality, or the end of the season banquet

·   Prizes for the incentive program
