Sandy's again showed no respect for their hosts by overwhelming 507 with a million base hits - it seemed. In 5 "innings" we posted 22 or 23 runs against maybe 8. New acquisition Andre Thomas POUNDED the ball, hitting 3 of 4 balls well over 300' to center field, earning a couple of HR and a half-dozen or more rbi. Kudos to Emil's son, Emil, who also pounded the ball, during part of the game for us and part of the scrimmage playing with his dad.
Many others contributed; everyone seemed to score at least once (book was not kept for 2 innings). Noteable other recollections were Tom Donnelly's string of line drives for the second straight week, John Masterson's ropes to LF and Glenn Gross' line drive that split the OF in left and center for a stand-up triple! John M and Glenn alternated at pitcher and both did a good job. They were backed by generally excellent defense (though the sun in LF/LC was pretty brutal) that made almost every routine out. Jim Fischetti made a couple very good running catches and showed his arm is still live. Vinny started a DP at third finished well by Brad, and Billy K scooped a couple tough balls to record outs at first. Andre played a solid LC. Phil was notable for NOT hitting into 3 outs this week; HA!
When weighing what we have done so far consider that we have not yet seen Frank Bersterman, Larry Newell, Paul Chachko, Russ Casey and John Kalan. Pat Ricci and Billy Boscoe have been out but once. Gary Bendian is on leave till Readington. Steve Toth will recover from knee surgery around July and Tony Vodola will be with us all season. Our Ocean team is improved!
