2009 AYFF MIDGET DIVISION CHAMPS The Gilbert Pop Warner Avengers are the 2009 State Champions for the midget division. They defeated a strong South Stars team from the South Pop Warner Association 24-14. In doing so the team accomplished several "first." This was the first Avenger squad to go undefeated in a season. This was the first state title won by a Gilbert Pop Warner team. And this was the first time in Arizona Youth Football Federation history that the cheer AND football squads from the same team have won state titles in the same season. The Lady Avengers will now set their sites on winning the WESCON Regional Cheer Competition in mid-November. The players now enter the WESCON Regional playoffs. The first round will be held in Glendale at Kellis High School. They will be playing a representative of the Colorado River Conference. Game time will be at 4:00 pm. Both the cheer and football teams are ultimately competing for the chance to go the Pop Warner nationals held at Disneyworld in Florida.
