Standings
trophy_b-ani
Everyone always asks me how are the standings determined for each division? And why are they displayed in such a *&? way? Eteamz (the web site host which the GVA uses) isn't really designed for volleyball, but is more designed for football and baseball (as usual). Therefore scoring and standings are more designed for such and such a time or innings with a score at the end to say who won. Volleyball (usually) is who wins a match (3 out of 5 games or 2 out of 3 for shorter timelimits). For the GVA lower divisions (3,4,5,6 rec) the idea is to get the girls to get as much playing time as possible, so it was decided to play three games no matter who wins the first 2. All three games are used to decide the standings, not who wins the first two or who would have won a match.

Now comes the eteamz part. Since there isn't a way to put in the score for a three game match, the scores of each game are entered into the game description and the games won and lost are entered into the score for that match. The standings sheet shows won / lost and points for (PF) and points against (PA). The points for are the number of games won and the points against are the number of games lost. This is what is used to determine standings. The wins and losses are just ignored as 3,4,5,6 uses all 3 games for standings and it doesn't matter who would have won a match.

Now I know you are saying why don't you just enter every game of the three game match and enter the score for each one. Well the scheduling part of eteamz doesn't really like having more than one game at one location at any time. "Then enter different times!" Well yes, but for 6 comp, 7 & 8th grade which uses matches you really aren't sure how many games are in a match until after the match is played. It gets really difficult. The 3,4,5,6 rec division standings are determined by the number of games won/lost (PF,PA) on the standings sheet (ignore W/L). 6 comp, 7 & 8 division standings are determined by the win/lost ratio with secondary sorting by the number of games lost (a team with 2 matches won with no games lost would be ranked higher than a team with 2 matches won, but 2 games lost). I know head-to-head is the prefered method, but that is only possible after everyone has finished playing.
