TEAMWORK is BEST WORK
The best team doesn't win nearly as often
as the TEAM that gets along BEST!!

Thoughts to Live By
1. It is amazine how much can be accomplished when no one cares who gets the credit.

2. You may make mistakes, but you are not a failure until you start blaming someone else.

3. Happiness begins where selfishness ends.

4. The woman who is not afraid of failure seldom has to face it.

5. Your attitude determines your altitude.

6. You never get ahead of anyone as long as you are trying to get even with them.

7. If you are patting yourself on the back about what you did yesterday, you must not
have done much today.

8. Success consists of doing common things uncommonly well.

9. Be more concerned with your character than your reputation because your character is what
you really are, while your reputation is merely what others think you are.

10. Things turn out for the best for those who make the best of the way things turn out.

11. Ability may get you to the top, but character keeps you there.

12. Talent is God-Given, BE HUMBLE; Fame is man-given, BE THANKFUL;
Conceit is self-given, BE CAREFUL!!!

The Wolf and the Two Travelers
Two young ladies were traveling together when suddenly they spied a huge wolf.
Before the wolf was upon them, one girl ran to a tree by the side of the road and
climbed up into its branches and hid. The other girl was not as nimble as
her companion. She could not escape so she threw herself upon the ground and
pretended to be dead. The wolf came up and sniffed all around her. The girl
held her breath. Finally the wolf went away. After he had gone, the traveler
in the tree came down and asked the other girl what it was the wolf had whispered
to her when he put his mouth to her ear. The second girl replies, "He told me
never to travel with a friend who will leave me at the first sign of danger."

Advice from Lakers GM,Jerry West:
I used to get angry at myself for every mistake I made. I'd get so angry I'd lose
my concentration and play badly for a few minutes before I'd get a grip on
myself again. I still get angry at myself for mistakes, but I've learned to shake
them off. You don't want to forget your mistakes. You want to learn from them.
But the time to think of them is between games or in practice sessions. You've
got to put your mistakes into a corner of your mind during games and go on applying
yourself to the next play and the rest of the game.

The 212th DEGREE, author unknown
Let me tell you why I believe so whole heartedly in the importance of enthusiasm,
of conviction, of personal sincerity, of flaming red-hot enthusiasm.

At 211 degrees, water is just hot water, inert, powerless.

At 212 degrees, water is live steam, with more power within it, than man has been
able to harness with true and full efficiency, even with all his engineering
knowledge and skill.

At 211 degrees, the locomotive is as powerless as if the firebox was empty
and cold. At 212 degrees, it has the POWER to pull a mile-long train of cars
rattling along the right-of-way at 70 miles an hour.

So it is with human beings...

And, so it is with those of us who are in the athletic business, even more
than with people in other occupations.

Thousands of atheletes are walking around at 211 degrees, who for want
of one more degree of temperature, are inert and powerless. Many athletes are
walking around at 212 degrees, and increase their POWER by infinity.

That one last degree out of 212 seems to be insignificant by itself, yet it is
of infinite importance. The athletes who will never lift their temperature to
the boiling point will never achieve anything worthwhile in this world. The
athletes who can and will keep their temperature above 212 degrees, who can and
will keep their boiler at full steam by keeping the fire of enthusiasm at red-hot
heat, can achieve anything in thiw world to which they may reasonably aspire.

DESIRE...
is the most important factor in the success of any athlete!

The Real Champion...
puts silly errors or unlucky breaks out of her mind and gets on with the game.    (Stan Smith)

WHEN YOU MAKE A MISTAKE
there are only 4 things you should EVER do about it:
1. ADMIT IT
2. LEARN FROM IT
3. PLAY THROUGH IT
4. DON'T REPEAT IT

The Obstacle in Our Path
In ancient times, a King had a boulder placed on a roadway. Then he hid
himself and watched to see if anyone would remove the huge rock. Some of the
king's wealthiest merchants and courtiers came by and simply walked around it.
Many loudly blamed the king for not keeping the roads clear, but none did anything
about getting the stone out of the way. Then a peasant came along carrying a load
of vegatables. Upon approaching the boulder, the peasant laid down his
burden and tried to move the stone to the side of the road. After much pushing
and straining, he finally succeeded. After the peasant picked up his load of
vegetables, he noticed a purse lying in the road where the bolder had been. The
purse contained many gold coins and a note from the king indicating that the gold
was for the person who removed the bolder from the roadway. The peasant learned
what many of us never understand:
EVERY OBSTACLE PRESENTS AN OPPORTUNITY TO IMPROVE OUR CONDITION.

IF IT IS TO BE, IT IS UP TO ME

THE WINNING EDGE
Have you ever wondered what separates
the ordinary person from the extraordinary person?
Or why one person can be given many things to do and succeed,
while another person with only one thing to do complains,
criticizes, and refuses to cooperate?
Here's why: It's "THE WINNING EDGE".

"THE WINNING EDGE" is the mind set of a person who
is determined to win no matter what.
"THE WINNING EDGE" is a dreamer who sees opposition or
challenges as an opportunity to express all that they are.
"THE WINNING EDGE" is the difference between a loser's
attitude and a winner's faith and perserverance.
"THE WINNING EDGE" is the difference between climbing
a mountain or making it to the top.
"THE WINNING EDGE" is what puts you on top of life, and no fear,
failure, setback, disappointment, sickness, or lack of money can defeat you,
because you have "THE WINNING EDGE"!

Character
It is the quiet moments, the moments out of the spotlight that most defines character.

WINNERS ARE PEOPLE LIKE YOU
WINNERS take chances,
Like everyone else, they fear falling, but refuse to let the fear control them.
WINNERS don't give up.
When life gets rough, they hang in until the going gets better.
WINNERS are flexible.
They realize there is more than one way and are willing to try others.
WINNERS know they are not perfect.
They respect their weaknesses while making the most of their strengths.
WINNERS fall, but they don't stay down.
They stubbornly refuse to let a fall keep them from climbing...
WINNERS accept responsibility for their lives.
WINNERS are positive thinkers who see good in all things.
From the ordinary, they make the extraordinary.
WINNERS believe in the path they have chosen,
even when it's hard, even when others can't see where they are going.
WINNERS are patient.
They know a goal is only a worthy as the effort that's required to acheive it.
WINNERS are people like you.
They make this world a better place to be!!

CARING MAKES THE DIFFERENCE
Here's a quiz:
1. Name the 5 wealthiest people in the world.
2. Name the last 5 Heisman trophy winners.
3. Name the last 5 winners of the Miss America contest.
4. Name 10 people how have won the Nobel or Pulitzer prize.
5. Name the last 6 Academy Award winners for best actor and actress.
6. Name the last decade's worth of World Series winners.

HOW DID YOU DO?

The point is that none of us remember the headliners of yesterday, and these
are no second-rate achievers. They are the best in their fields. But, the
applause dies. Awards tarnish. Achievements are forgotten. Accolades and
certifictes are buried with their owners.

Here is another quiz.
1. List a few teachers who aided your journey through school.
2. List 3 friends who have helped you through a difficult time.
3. Name 5 people who have taught you something worthwhile.
4. Think of a few people who have made you feel appreciated and special.
5. Think of 5 people you enjoying spending time with.
6. Name 6 heroes or people whose stories have inspired you.

EASIER?

The lesson: The people who make a difference in your life are not the
ones with the most credentials, the most money or the most awards. They are
the ones that care!

Never Underestimate the Power of Your Actions and Words
One day, when I was a freshman in high school, I saw a kid from my class,
Kyle, walking home school. It looked like he was carying all of his books.
I wondered "Why would anyone bring all of his books home on a Friday?
He must really be a nerd". I had parties and a football game planed with
my friend for the weekend, so I shrugged and went on.

As I was walking, I saw a bunch of kids running at Kyle, knocking all of
his books out of his arms and tripping him so he landed in the dirt. His glasses
went flying, and I saw them land in the grass about ten feet from him. He
looked up and I saw this terrible sadness in his eyes. My heart went out to him
and I jogged over to him as he crawled around looking for his glasses.
There was a tear in his eye as I handed him his glasses and said, "Those guys
are jerks. They should really get lives."

He looked at me and said, "Hey, thanks!" There was a real smile of gratitude
on his face. I helped him pick up his books and asked him where he lived. It
turned out he lived near me and had just transfered from a private school to
this school. I would have never hung out with a private school kid before.
We talked all the way home, and I carried his books. He turned out to be a
pretty cool kid. I asked him if he wanted to play football on Saturday with me
and my friends. He said yes. We hung out all weekend, and the more I got to
know Kyle, the more I liked him. My friends thought the same of him. We continued to
hang out together and over the next four years, Kyle and I became best friends.

When we were seniors, we began to think about college. Kyle decided on
Georgetown, and I was going to Duke. I knew that we would always be friends,
that the miles would never be a problem. Kyle was going to be a doctor and I
was going for business on a football scholarship.

Graduation day arrived, and as valedictorian, Kyle had to give a
speach. He looked great. He was one of those guys that really found himself
during high school. He filled out and actually looked good in glasses.
He had more dates than me and all the girls loved him. He nervous about the
speach, so I smacked him on the back telling him not to worry. "You'll do great".

His speach started: "Graduation is a time to thank those who helped you make
it through those tough years. Your parents, your teachers, your siblings, maybe a
coach...but mostly your friends. I am here to tell all of you that being a friend
to someone is the best gift you can give them. I am going to tell you a story."

I stared at my friend is disbelief as he told the story of the first day we
met. He had planned to kill himself over the weekend. He talked of how he had
cleaned out his locker so his Mom wouldn't have to do it later and was carrying
his stuff home. He looked hard at me and gave me a little smile. "Thankfully,
I was saved. My friend saved me from doing the unspeakable."

I heard a gasp go through the crowd as this handsome, popular boy told us all
about his weakest moment. I saw his Mom and Dad looking at me and smiling with
that same grateful smile. Not until that moment did I realize its depth.

Never underestimate the power of your actions. With one small gesture you
can change a person's life. For better or worse.    God puts us all in each
other's lives to impact one another in some way.

"Friends are angels who lift us to our feet when our wings have trouble
remembering how to fly."
