Hampton Roads Whalers take the first Gardner Cup to finish off what most considered a great weekend of Juvenile Hockey by defeating the Vaughan Rangers 3-2 in a very exciting final game.
Hampton advanced to the final after defeating the Ajax Knights 9-1 in the early Semi-final match, while Vaughan defeated the Humberview Huskies 4-2 in an exciting 2nd Semi-final.
After finishing the Round Robin in 1st place of the Ernest Jones Division, Hampton faced the Leaside Kings in the Quarter Finals. The game went to overtime with the Whalers moving on to the Semi-finals with a 7-6 final. Vaughan finished 1st in the William Ruddock Division and defeated the Toronto Colts 5-3 in their Quarter-final match to advance to the Semi-finals.
Hampton Roads Radoslav Illo recieved the Game MVP for his efforts and the Vaughan Game MVP went to Michael Montanaro. Congradulations to both players.
