Swansea JFL
The League, which was formed in 1966 as the Christchurch League, became the Swansea Junior Football League in 1968.
Our main aim is to provide football for as many children as possible within the Swansea area.
We organise junior football up to the age of fourteen within the boundaries of the City and County of Swansea and are affiliated to the West Wales Football Association.
We have over 1800 registered players representing teams from 28 member clubs.
The League runs competitive football for Under 12, 13 and 14 age groups playing eleven a side football. For these age groups we organise the following Competitions:
1. League Competition - 3 Divisions - runs throughout the season.
2. League Cup Competition - 3 Divisions - run on a knock-out basis.
3. League CupPlate Competition - 3 Divisions - for those teams knocked-out of the League Cup Competition up to and including the 1st Round - run on a knock-out basis.
4. Seven a Side Competition - 3 Divisions - played at the start of the season on a round-robin basis with knock-out final stages.
5. Penalty Competition - for under 12s only - run on a round-robin basis. We also select Representative football teams.
The Under 8, 9, 10 and 11 age groups play non-competitive small sided football. Teams in each age group are divided into groups of 4 teams each week and playing in a round-robin format. At the start and end of the season all the teams in each age group are brought together at one venue to take part in Festivals. In addition we run a Penalty Competition for Under 10 and 11 age groups.
We encourage coach education, with people responsible for running teams being encouraged to undertake Football Association of Wales run courses in football skills, which includes player welfare, together with first aid courses.
One major problem faced by the League is the lack of referees. The League encourages people to take up the whistle. The West Wales Football Association runs regular courses.
The League also has links with Swansea City AFC through their Youth Development Section.
