Field Of Dreams Over Smyrna
Field of Dreams led most of the game over Smyrna although it was never a big lead. In a game that seemed to center on third base play defensively, both teams were outstanding. Pitching played a huge part for both teams as well, with a few memorable long balls as well. Smyrna fought and clawed their way back to take a 5-4 lead in the top of the sixth inning, and needed but 3 outs to secure victory. FOD had their own agenda as they worked to earn a semi- final birth. A throw wide and high pulled the first baseman off the bag at first momentarily to give FOD a much needed base runner. The Smyrna manager came out to ask about the play and prior to leaving the field found himself ejected. At that point the game turned as FOD used all of their offensive baseball tools to tie the game and then plate the sixth run, giving them a birth in Monday's semi-finals. Sunday's winner of the MC Blue, Milford will be the fourth semi-finalist of the Tournament. East Marietta and FOD will play a somewhat meaningless final pool play game in pool b, with both teams already qualified for the semis. MC Gold has already won pool a with their 2-0 record, and will play at 6:00 Monday.

MC Gold!
After 2 days at Milford, MC Gold has set the benchmark for everyone else. 2-0 in pool play and pool a winner they scored 12 runs against an overmatched MC Blue team on Tuesday, final score 12-7. In last nights action they again scored 12 runs against an overmatched Milford team, final score 12-4. The final game in pool a will feature MC Blue and Milford on Sunday. In pool b action Wednesday East Marietta used good pitching and the long ball defeat Smyrna 15-2. Smyrna will look to even their record tonight against Field of Dreams. EMNLL will play again Sunday against FOD looking to secure the top spot in pool b.

Murphey Candler Gold Wins

The old saying goes "Great pitching beats great hitting..." I think thats it.. Murphey Candler Gold opened the 10-11 Tournament against Murphey Candler Blue losing a heartbreaker after surrendering a late game HR last Saturday. MC Blue on the other hand cruised into the Championship match-up undefeated and seemingly unstoppable offensively. Did I say seemingly? Gold used discipline at the plate and timely hitting to score enough in the first inning to win the game. Gold's pitching kept Blue's batters off balance all night and some outstanding defense kept Blue off the scoreboard until very late in the contest. M.C. Gold prevailed 7-2 ultimately in this memorable match-up. Gold will represent District 2 in the Georgia State Tournament in Cartersville. Congratulations Gold!

Unreal East Marietta 9-10's Dismantle Smyrna
East Marietta scored 10 in the first inning while Smyrna went 3 up 3 down, the rest was as they say history. Smyrna had but 1 hit and 3 base runners in a short game. East Marietta scored 10 in the first, another 9 in the second on their way to a 19-0 victory. East Marietta finished the with 72 runs scored in the Tournament. EM will represent District 2 in the 9-10 Georgia State Tournament at Pioneer Little League in Columbus GA.

International Tournament Play Begins in District 2
Saturday saw the first games of the 9-10 Tournament at Milford Park. In the first game, a battle featuring East Marietta National and Field Of Dreams it was no match. East Marietta showed really good pitching and outstanding defense and cruised to th 12-0 victory. EM will play Smyrna Sunday at 5:00. Field Of Dreams will play another winless team, Ben Hill at 3:00 on Sunday. Milford cruised to a comfortable 10-0 win over Murphey Candler Blue. It never felt all that comfortable to the Milford manager, but after scoring 4 in the first inning they never looked back. Milford will play MC Gold Sunday at 1:00 in the Fathers Day opener. MC Blue will have to wait to avenge their loss until Monday, 6:00 when they will play "family fued"  against MC Gold. Saturday's last game proved to be no more competitive as Smyrna throttled Ben Hill 21-1. Smyrna looks to stay undefeated Sunday against East Marietta, while Ben Hill looks to even their record against Field of Dreams. Come on out and watch some baseball on Fathers Day..... as always "good seats are still available".

Northwest Georgia Tournaments to Include 9's This Year

In 2008 Districts 2 and 1 teamed up to host a 7-8 Tournament featuring the top 2 teams from each district. All of the participants had a great experience last year in District 1, Cartersville L.L. We hope to expand the Northwest Georgia 7-8 Tournament to include 8 teams in 2009.  This Tournament will be hosted by District 2 and played at Smyrna Little League, starting on June 20th.

With the success of last years inaugural Northwest Georgia Tournament, we will also offer a 9 YO Tournament in 2009. District 1 has offered to host the 9's at Rockmart this year beginning on June 27th. This Tournament is scheduled to be a 4 team single pool round robin format featuring top teams from Districts 1 and 2.

Stay tuned for further details about the Northwest Georgia Tournaments....

Murphey Candler Gold Wins Big
MC Gold played two one run games over the weekend, winning 1 of them. MC Gold took advantage of East Marietta errors early and cruised to the 4 inning victory. Gold moves to 2-1 in pool play while East Marietta dropped to 0-2.

East Marietta Over MC Gold
In a game that the managers will probably remember more for the lack of hits with runners on base, there were some memorable home runs hit also. After a lead off home run EM loaded the bases in the first inning only to have Gold's pitcher shut the door. The bottom of the first saw Gold tie the game at 1 but much like EM left the bases loaded. East Marietta again left the bases loaded in the second and stranded 11 on base through the game. EM broke on top 2-1 in the top of the third, but surrendered the lead in the bottom 3-2. Little did Gold know they would score but one more run. EM scored 3 in the fourth to break back on top 5-2 and that would be enough although a tape measure home run in the sixth looked to be an exclamation point on the evenings game. MC Gold was not done yet as the number 9 spot in the line-up went deep to bring the score to 6-4, they went on to single with a couple of outs allowing the tying run to step to the plate. The Gold clean-up batter ended up being over matched by the EM relief pitcher. Congratulations to both of these teams, a game for the ages.
