GTAAA is once again proud to offer a place for girls to play softball again this fall.
Starting in August we will be filling teams at the 10U, 12U & 14U levels. Dependent on numbers we might be able to have multiple teams at each level. We will also begin filling out the 2010 Grant Jr. Dawgs teams at this time as well.
Although we may have multiple teams at any given level, these teams will be a mixture of Jr. Dawgs travel players and in house players. All fall teams will wear the Jr. Dawgs jersey, alternating colors(Red & Black). For the fall, and the fall only, teams will have a maximum roster size of 16 girls. Anything above 16, yet less than 22 will require cuts made after tryouts for the Jr. Dawgs teams on August 2 & 16.
The fall schedule will be made up of games against travel teams, in house teams, and mixture(travel/in house) teams. Games will ONLY be on Saturday & Sundays, and each team will participate in at least one tournament(at Kankakee in October), and possibly another tournament that we may host at Veteran’s Park, Field of Dreams & Grant High School.
All teams will play in a minimum of 20 games, including the tournaments. The cost for Fall Ball this year will be $125, due to the increase in number of games.
Girls are also encouraged to participate in school sports as well. Girls on a school team or other related activity are excused from practices and/or games. The Jr. Dawgs program is taking on the same theory used by other programs in this regard.
Girls that are interested in playing on our competitive(travel) teams next season are strongly encouraged to participate in Fall ball, and are required to be at BOTH tryouts. Girls not interested in playing competitively next year are only required to be at ONE tryout.
The 2010 Jr. Dawgs teams will fill up to 10 roster spots at tryouts, leaving at least three open spots per team for girls that change their minds during the fall(and have the ability to make the competitive teams), as well as girls that change teams in late 2009, early 2010.
Girls that played in the fall last year and did not play with the Jr. Dawgs this year saw a marked improvement in skills for their season this year. Plusses all around.
Managers have NOT been determined for any of these teams as of yet, and any coach interested in managing in the Fall of 2009, or as a Jr. Dawgs Manager for 2010 can respond to John Lennex at jwl8774@aol.com or 847-693-6750. The Jr. Dawgs are looking for managers with some experience managing at the travel levels.
Girls interested in playing in the fall need to register before tryouts in August, so we have an idea of how many teams we will have. This can be done via email, jwl8774@aol.com or calling John at 847-693-6750. We will also have registration forms available on Saturday, 6/20, at Vet’s Park from 10-4.
