Gahanna Junior League Sports: GJLS News: Responses to recent questions
Responses to recent questionsWith 11 different playing sites, GJLS is unable to offer a "rain hotline" or use this website. Each of the 22+ diamonds drain and dry differently. Therefore, Coaches and Commissioners need to arrive at their fields early to decide if they are playable. After a decision is made, the coaches will contact the players on their team to let them know if there are weather cancellations or delays. Unless notified otherwise, players should presume that their game or practice will take place as scheduled. Any parents who would like to help with phones calls or field assessment should talk to their coach. This is a great way to volunteer and it doesn't require a lot of time or work!
Anyone who would like to be a "rain hotline" coordinator is strongly encouraged to come to a GJLS Board meeting to get involved. GJLS is always looking for ways to improve the way it operates. Unfortunately, the wish-list is a lot longer than the list of volunteers needed to fulfill it.
Anyone interested in donating money or services to GJLS should contact Ronnie Clark, President or any GJLS Board Member.
Any interest in FALL SOFTBALL?... Until now there hasn't been much interest but like anything else, all it takes is some folks to step forward. An energetic group will need to take charge and just meet with the Board of Directors to present their ideas. The next Board meeting is July 18th. It's likely too late for 2007 but you would need to plan ahead anyway to get everything organized. Or you can contact a league officer or GJLS Board Member if you want talk informally about your ideas.
The bat rules for Pony league limit the barrel size to 2 3/4". The bat must have a "drop" that is minus 7.5 or heavier.
Metal spikes are now permitted in the GJLS Spring/Summer Pony League. Due to the GJLS's recent sponsorship of the Middle School Club teams, GJLS rescinded the plastic spike requirement for Pony league. The league did not want the Club players to have to purchase plastic spikes to play with their Summer teams.
The cold and wet weather won't affect player tryouts (evaluations). They are held indoors at Royal Manor Elementary, inside the gymnasium. For more specific questions about tryouts, check the calendar and the FAQ sections.
Registration fees paid to GJLS basically cover the cost of fielding the teams and playing the games (e.g. uniforms, player equipment, umpires, baseballs, dirt, bases, etc.) GJLS fees are very competitive compared with other communities that do not receive much support from their respective city parks/recreation departments.
GJLS tee-ball fees demonstrate the league's commitment to affordability. Tee-ball is always one of the largest age groups in every community. This year, six of nine communities surveyed charge $70-$80 to play tee-ball. Make no mistake, tee-ball fees are extremely important to all organizations. GJLS ($60) does not take advantage of that age-group as much as other communities.
To learn more about GJLS operations and finances, please come to a Board meeting. The GJLS officers and committee heads welcome any interest you have in the league.

If you have not been called by your coach, please contact If you just recently registered, you should hear from a coach within 10 days. Rosters for high school age league will not be set until late May after that league's tryout takes place.

If your coach or league commissioner is not able to provide you with a copy, please contact a GJLS Board Member for further help.
