Monday, November 9 Marlins, Jammers and Veterans Advance to Quarterfinals Marlins over Browns, 2 games to 0 Veterans over Straight Ballerz, 2 games to 0 Jammers over Long Shots, 2 games to 1 Saturday, September 19 Queens Express Wins 2009 Summer Championship After weeks of waiting out the rain, Queens Express captured the 2009 GHSBL Summer title by besting the Outsiders 2 games to 1. In the opener, the Outsiders score three runs in the fourth inning to break a 1-1 tie and then held on for a 4-1 victory behind the ace pitching of Woody. In game 2, Queens Express scored two early runs and tacked on another late run in support of a dominant shutout performance by Pete. In the finale, Queens Express once again jumped out to a 2-0 lead, but this time the Outsiders rallied to tie the score 2-2 in the fourth. However, in the bottom of the fifth, Queens Express exploded for seven runs and then cruised to a 12-2 victory. Saturday, September 5 Queens Express, Outsiders Advance To Finals...Wait For It To Stop Raining After two postponements, the 2009 Summer Championship is now set for September 12. For those who can't remember that far back, below is how each team made it to the championship game.
The two top seeds advanced to the championship after winning series that featured dramatic extra inning games. Queens Express dropped the first game to Licey 2-1, but then battled through 10 innings to tie the series with a 1-0 win. Queens Express then took the rubber game 2-0 to advance. Meanwhile, the Outsiders bested the Marlins 10-4 in game 1, and then followed that up with a 3-2 victory in 8 innings to earn their spot in the championship.
(1) Queens Express over (4) Licey – 2 games to 1 (2) Outsiders over (3) Marlins – 2 games to 0Tuesday, August 11 Playoffs Down to the Final Four The chalk advanced to the semifinals as Queens Express, Outsiders, Marlins and Licey all advanced past 1st round matchups. Licey was pushed to the limit by Trash, but prevailed in the rubber game, while the other three matchups ended as sweeps, although all three series featured at least one competitive game.
(1) Queens Express over (8) Outlawz - 2 games to 0 Please Be Advised . . . The following items are of particular importance, so please make your team aware of them: 1) Any team that forfeits a game for any reason and without prior notice (before 9 PM on the Friday before the game) will be responsible for paying a $70 fee. Should a team forfeit after 9 PM on Friday, including the day of the game, it will be responsible for the entire cost of the officials' fee ($156). 2) All teams MUST clean up after themselves at ALL fields. Failure to do so could result in a fine being levied against you by the Parks Department. 3) The consumption of alcohol is prohibited by order of the Parks Department. Failure to comply with this rule could result in the revocation of the league's permits. In Case of Rain . . . In the event of inclement weather, all teams are required to report to the field unless notified beforehand of a cancellation by the commissioner. If the fields are deemed playable and a team does not show up to play, they will be charged with a forfeit and assume responsibility for all officials' fees. All teams should also be prepared to work on the fields. In instances of extreme weather, games may be canceled in advance of Saturday's scheduled start times. If you are uncertain of your game's status, you must CALL THE COMMISSIONER. Should a game be a canceled and the commissioner is not accessible, a message will be left at this number. Unless you hear from the commissioner, either by phone, email, or phone message, you are responsible for showing up at the field. Looking for Info from Past Seasons?
