Grand Haven has a long history and tradition of athletic excellence. This tradition was not built overnight. It took years of dedication, commitment, and hard work by a countless number of people. As a Grand Haven Athlete you must continue to strive to up hold this high standard of excellence. Your participation in athletics is a privilege and should be treated as such. Any time you wear the blue and gold, you are representing yourself, your family, your school, and all those that have worn these colors before you. Your behavior should be above reproach in all areas. Your conduct will be closely observed by other students, staff, parents, and the community. Failure to follow the rules established by the team and the Athletic Code will result in disciplinary actions up to and including suspension from school, suspension from athletics, expulsion from school and/or denial of future participation in athletics. Your student has indicated a desire to participate in the high school interscholastic athletic program. Parents of student athletes also commit themselves to certain responsibilities and obligations, which are outlined in this athletic handbook. Your signature on the Athletic Code, along with the signature of your student athlete, indicates that you understand and accept those responsibilities and obligations, and agree to cooperate with school personnel in enforcing the athletic code. Parents will be required to attend informational meetings scheduled by the athletic director at the beginning of each season. Athletes will not be allowed to play until his or her parents have met with the athletic director. Individual meetings will be scheduled with the athletic director for parents who are unable to attend the informational meeting. Parents are encouraged and expected to model good sportsmanship at all times during athletic events. Acceptable standards must be adhered to by adults. Failure to lead by example may result in removal from the event and/or future events. All parents are invited to join the Buc Boosters and help promote and support the tradition of excellence associated with Grand Haven Athletics.

The Buccaneer Sports Boosters (BSB) is an organization of parents, coaches, teachers, and community members who support Grand Haven athletics. During the 2005-6 school year it is anticipated that more than 800 students will participate on more than 50 varsity, junior varsity, and freshmen teams. During the 2004-2005 school year $43, 900 was spent on financial grants intended to help develop and improve GHHS athletic programs. Another large area of concern is providing financial assistance to qualified students enabling them to participate on a sports team – both High School and Middle School.* In August 2005, more than $2000 in athletic scholarship requests were submitted for the new school year.
Your help is needed. Please consider joining the Buccaneer Sports Boosters. A variety of memberships are available. By becoming a member you are adding your name to the list of people who support and promote athletics in Grand Haven. You can also volunteer your time. Many people are needed to help with concession sales, program sales, fund raisers, banquets, mailings, the Booster Bash, and other Booster activities. Monthly meetings are generally held on the first Monday of each month at 6:30PM in the Large Group Instruction room next to the Media Center at GHHS. Everyone is welcome to attend.
