GHA 2008/2009 Welcome Letter
Greenville Hockey Association 2008/2009 Season
Announcement for Travel Hockey Players
Dear Hockey Parent,
I would like to take this opportunity to invite you to register your child(ren) for the upcoming GHA 2008/2009 travel hockey team tryouts. Registration and tryouts are open to all players and age groups from Mites to Midgets. We look forward to building upon an extremely successful 2007/2008 season and having the opportunity to evaluate each and every player. Our teams will compete in the CHL (Carolinas Hockey League). We will determine which level of play each team will participate once we have completed player evaluations.
The GHA is the premier opportunity for youth ice hockey players in the Greenville area. Past alumni have graduated to Prep schools in New England, High School hockey in Minnesota, various AAA programs throughout the Southeast, as well as competing at the collegiate level. Last season, our teams from the GHA enjoyed a fair amount of success. The Bantam team finished CHL league play in second place and claimed first place at the Regional Silver Sticks Qualifier Tournament in Huntsville, AL earning a berth to participate in the International Championship in Ontario, Canada. The team finished with a 28-15-5 record. The Midget team finished as the CHL 16U Divisional champions and also participated in the Silver Sticks Regional Tournament in Huntsville, AL, the Sobiech Tier II Regional Tournament in Charlotte, NC, and the Florida International Invitational Tournament in Fort Myers, FL. The 16U team finished with a 25-18-4 record.
As ice hockey continues to prosper in Greenville, ice availability at the Pavilion continues to be limited, as the number of teams participating in youth house, travel, high school and men’s leagues continue to increase. This trend is occurring at several other rinks in the league. To assist with this issue, the travel hockey league (CHL) has initiated a revision to its program to assist all associations to accommodate as many players as possible. We are required to submit a census to the CHL earlier than past years so that they may plan accordingly for ice allocation at all CHL rinks.
In order to help minimize the impact of this concern, we need to get a handle on the number of players participating earlier than in past years. This will allow us to submit our ice time requirements to the Pavilion well in advance of the season. We are asking you to pre-register on-line (www.greenvillehockey.com). We expect the travel fee for the year to approximate $700-$1,000 for the season. (The fee is established based on projected costs and fund raising.) All players must pre-register by June 1st, 2008. (Fee $25)
During the month of June teams will be established based on number of players pre-registering. Registration is critical; ice time will be allocated to the teams that are set up in June. Failure to register may leave your child out of the program.
Good luck for the coming hockey season. If any questions, please feel free to call.
Yours truly,
Pat Hucker
President
