Biddy B
The GBC Biddy B Lady Dunkers saw their final regular season game as a victory on Saturday, defeating South Colonie 22-14 at Guilderland Elementary School. The game was back and forth from the very start with the lead changing multiple times in the first half. Guilderland started in a 2-1-2 zone and quickly needed to change to man to man in order to shut Colonie down. Once in man to man the girls rallied to lead at the end of the first half 13-12. In the second half, the defense made a tremendous difference, holding Colonie to 2 points while the Guilderland extended the lead over the half. Guilderland leaders were Jennifer Bartlett with 7 points, Collette Cohen 6 points, Jamie Golderman 4 points, Jisella Vasquez & Isabella Smith 2 each and Gracie Seravillo 1 point to round out the scoring. Nicole McGrath, Jasmine Jones, Lauren McCollum, Eva Fiamatta & Lizzy Dollard all played great defense and pulled down multiple rebounds.
Biddy A
The Biddy A Raptors took on the Raiders of Colonie looking to end the regular season with a victory. Colonie scored the first points of the game but the Raptors quickly took control. Hanna Robbins, Haley Golderman and Caitlin Gagan held the Raiders offense in check as Jess Fiori (4 pts) and Emily Burns (6 pts) and Margan Kieley (2 pts) put Guilderland ahead at the half 11-7. Switching their defense between an aggressive man to man and and a denying zone, Guilderland opened the second half looking to put the game away. Rachel Mastrianni (4 pts) and Christine Fish anchored the offense in the second half as Chloe Bonavita and Layla Yousef had key defensive plays. Despite a late second half surge, Guilderland held on to win 20-18. The Raptors will now prepare for the Capital District League playoffs on March 3.
Junior A and Junior B
Both Junior teams faced tough South Colonie teams this past weekend.
Junior B
The Junior B team entered the game looking to preserve its Number 1 seeding in the upcoming playoffs. Playing a balanced attack offense Guilderland exchanged baskets early before the Lady Dutch jumped out to an significant lead. Guilderland went on to win their final regular season game 31-10.
Junior A
The Junior A team needed a victory over South Colonie to improve its seeding in the Capital District League playoffs. Playing one of their best games of the season, Guilderland roared out to an early lead and never looked back. With all players contributing on both ends of the court, the Junior A team went on to dominate Colonie by a score of 55-39.
